Mm. ( is all he says (or, rather, hums) in response, though something seems to register to him as the seconds tick past. ) Or "ribika," though we are are also called "cat."

( as in you wouldn't call another ribika a person, you would call them a "cat"... they might look very different from their four-legged ancestors, but ribika had a lot of pride in what they were and what they descended from. just like how they were said to have innate affection for Two Canes, or "humans"... asato was never particularly devout or interested in the old legends, and he can't help but wonder it now. does he have some kind of predisposition towards this person as a "human"? does he have some instinct to please him? he's just not certain.

asato isn't really the best cat to ask about this. he had heard the elder tell the legends a few times, and kagari had mentioned a few things off-hand. and then there had been what konoe had found in the library, though asato hadn't been able to read any of it... )

Yeah. ( he considers this for a moment. ) I always thought you would be... taller. ( why are they called Two Canes if their legs are just as long as a cat's! but perhaps it was from the cats' memories of them... weren't the four-legged ones much smaller? )

Oh. ( asato dips his head, looking himself apologetic as soon as iori apologized. ) No. I'm sorry. I... don't really understand much of that. All of the stuff they explained to us... or even things I learned about before coming here. I will call you "human," if that's what is better. Or... your name? ( he tilts his head, curious to hear how humans name themselves. )
