Lisa Frank's LSD Fun House
anytime, anywhere on the moon Iris | top

Everything is darkness except for dim lights sparkling in the distance, a faint gleam that greets you as you start to unfurl from your dormant state. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Throat parched and skin dry and aching, you grope your body in alarm to make sure your possessions are still in place. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers only rewards you with an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

A ⬤ As you traverse the near-barren landscape, you feel something sting your skin. It's small and subtle at first, then you finally catch sight of it: an elegant, crystalline mosquito buzzing around from the corner of your eye. However, a pest is still a pest. After a while, marks near your welts begin to form strange patterns on your skin, mimicking ancient runes. Each rune has with it a particular side-effect that may hinder you on your journey:
The Mark of the Enchanter: Hallucinations, hallucinations galore. Your character will see everything and anything their imagination can conjure and will have difficulty separating reality from fiction.
The Mark of the Destroyer: Limbs start to cease their function, causing you to stumble or try and get around one-handed. Other certain body parts may be affected as well. Look at the bright side: you can stop worrying about jiggle physics and hiding your fear boner.
The Mark of the Sinner: Your hunger, your thirst, your fatigue and your desire are at an all-time high. Your impulses are rabid and uncontrollable. Maybe you experience only one of those symptoms. Maybe you experience them all. All you know is that you want relief now.

These effects will eventually clear up with a bit of accidental or purposeful physical contact with another person, making you wonder if there was anything wrong with you at all.

B ⬤ Hunger starts to gnaw at you vigorously. Perhaps you consider hunting the moon's creatures to sate your hunger. That's when you see it: a thick, meaty, juicy meal on legs. No, we're not talking about Alex Louis Armstrong. A wild silver-white pegasus runs across the purple landscape, its hair billowing in the wind as its hooves smack loudly against the ground. Try and shoot it, and you may find your efforts curtailed by its legendary rage. Eyes aglow and wings beating up a storm, this pegasus is no dainty horse. Two thousand pounds of pure muscle swoop down and charge at you, all blades and ammunition deflecting off its impenetrable skin. Taming appears impossible; it will buck anyone away and leave a sizable horn- or hoof-shaped hole in them for their efforts. Hunting it, however, should be easier. Relatively.

C ⬤ Or you may decide that you'd like to take a drink in the prismatic waters. A small pond can be found just a few miles away from where you first awoke, but gazing into it reflects what appears to be a window into your own world. You see the faces of loved ones or at least someone very close and familiar to you gathered around your prone body, shaking it frantically as though to try and rouse you, yet your image lies frozen and unresponsive, not even a whisper of life running through you. Did you die in your world? Is this your afterlife? The questions start to pile up along with the gnawing dread that you may never return home again.

Camp Nowhere
anytime, anywhere on the moon iris | top

Time moves strangely when you're trapped on a moon with no sun to guide you. Hours feel like days, and days feel like weeks. Travelling has rendered you weak and tired. Luckily, a few crystal formations in the shape of a cavern may offer you a small place refuge as you decide to nap. You notice a few artifacts left over from previous explorers.
D ⬤ A comm unit abandoned within the cavern will display the former owner's idol obsession. As you tap the buttons indiscriminately, a holographic screen will appear, and you will see a fabulous recorded concert featuring three bubbly young ladies in animal print, singing to you about something called Cordis, a cat, and a bag of gems. Does this make any sense to you? Probably not, but the beat is catchy. You may even find yourself tapping a foot along to it. Don’t worry. We know it’s plastic love.

E ⬤ There's a small cooler-like container of preserved powdered food bags labeled with only the word “Edible” that can be safely consumed. Although the powder tastes as bland as you’d expect, it’s oddly filling, sating either hunger or thirst. But who will be the first — and the bravest — to try eating them?

F ⬤ A strange, pointed instrument is among the effects found in the cavern. It's silver, long, and thin with a curved end and a light. When you grip it with warm hands, it seems to vibrate enthusiastically and comes in three settings indicated by a frowny face, a neutral face, and a happy face. What could it mean exactly? No one knows, but you can fiddle with it to your heart's desire. Just don't ask yourself where it's been before. You don't want to know.

Interstellar Action Force Assemble
prisma, iris | top

Over a day has passed when a group of people find you worse for wear. Some are full of uncertainty and fear while some are full of curiosity and excitement. They claim that they are scientists from the planet Prismatica here to investigate the sudden appearances of rainbow crystals in the skies. That means you and the others they’ve located within the area. You are all a surprising find to them, and they are quick to load everyone in their transport vehicles for examination and questioning.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why are the pegasi so ill-tempered? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They do have questions on their own, so it’s only fair to trade. They tell you about their world as they poke and prod you, trying to understand what you are and how you came into their land. If they’re not trembling in fear, some of them may ask you odd and invasive questions in return, such as what the rate at which your body achieves thermoregulation is, how long your refractory period is, and if you would be willing to submit various kinds of body fluids to them. It's up to whether you wish to comply or protest.
G ⬤ If you react violently, you will be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. They came prepared, so have fun with that! In any case, conscious or not, you’ll be brought into one of the transport vehicles. If you choose to peacefully cooperate, you’ll be provided any necessary first aid and a refreshing drink to help you recuperate after the rough time you had for the past few days. Each transport vehicle has a few small rooms to rest in, but due to the limited space, you’ll have to snuggle up with someone else on that bunk bed. Unfortunately, the moonshine fruit the ship is also carrying in its cargo has an extremely sweet smell that’s been permeating through certain areas of the ventilation system… Taking a whiff of it may inebriate you for the rest of the trip.

H ⬤ It’s a bumpy ride as terrain vehicles draw over various crystal formations until you see a large dome-like structure up ahead. Within its confines lies the seat of the Prismatica's government, Prisma. It’s a bureaucratic wet dream: skyscrapers practically touch the upper surface of the dome, windows glimmer with a prismatic sheen as daylight hits them, and small ships can be seen flying to and from its spaceport. The scientists, members of the Lunar Scientia, usher you into their facilities for tests. Arrivals are likely to twitch, tremble, and panic as Lunar Scientia fellows take and broadcast every embarrassing, unfiltered detail about you — height, weight, age, strange odors, estimated frequency of sexual activity —- to one another. These scientists will ask you politely to undress, too, but understand if you don't want to. They're especially fascinated by the readings of pure Chroma inside you, whispering among one another excitedly about the possibility of the new arrivals being a new moon species. What should they call them? Moonborne? Moonblessed?

I ⬤ At long last, the questions and physical examinations are done. They’ve decided to call the arrivals as the Moonblessed. They’ll take you under their care until they understand more about you. You're allowed a very refreshing hot shower and a warm meal for your efforts. Don’t worry, the meal was imported from their planet. “Planet?” you might ask, but you won’t need to wonder for too long. The ships are preparing for their next destination: the nearby planet Prismatica, where you will be dwelling for the time being. You're free to explore the government center until then.

Wildcard
Lunatia, Prismatica | top

It only takes a couple hours for the ships to reach their home planet. The ships drop the characters off at the city of Lunatia, where they will be given their communication devices and a plastic card they can present to certain landlords at any residential district for their subsidized (read: absolutely free) lodging. Officials at Prisma instructed the newcomers to await further instructions from the government, but you have a lot of time to kill before then. Why not explore in the meantime? Learn the ins and outs of the world, get a job, transform under the full moon, and explore the many mysteries of planet Prismatica!

"I wasn't trying to say that it was," Aqua answers. Because it certainly wasn't anything that would remotely resemble hospitable, what with the magic 'show you dead' water and no signs of actual food anyway. They were lucky that they had been found when they had been. "It's just that being isolated like that had me on guard the entire time," she admits, figuring that it's probably not a problem to admit that much. Or at least admit that she could've probably fought whatever off. "A single person is usually something that predators would think of as a meal."

Well, in her case it was usually Heartless, but that wasn't really that different than a native animal.

[Arthur shakes his head slowly.]

I don't...but I guess I could? I designed it myself but I know my own body really well. I'll have to ask Uncle Lance. And wouldn't I need a medical degree or something? I'm just a mechanic.

[It does rhyme actually. And vaguely reminds him of his friend, Ywain's own name.

But what a prestigious sounding order! Granted, for all Gawain knows, it could mean nothing at all. But he can tell this man is an honest sort. ]

Oh yes it is both of those things. Like England would be more specific though.

[Even Gawain gets confused by it sometimes though.]

But the skydom? Haha, that sounds fancy.

Nanoha observes her for a moment, taking in how she answers that. Had she touched a nerve? She certainly hadn't meant to, but she keeps her smile all the same. "I... can imagine that it would, yes. Especially given we were in a rather vulnerable state..."

In one way or another. She purses her lips for a moment, thinking, and clenches a fist. "Well! At the very least, we're on the way to getting our strength back now, hm? What little I've caught tells me that there are some rather strong people here, and we're all together now, so if there's anything out there... I'm sure it'll be fine now!"

Optimism coming from one of those 'rather strong people,' herself. Even away from where they started, phrasing it like that almost sounds like she might not fully trust who's carting them off.

(If one thought that was her take, they'd be correct.)

[A: ₪ mark of the destroyer | the more things change...]
[This has to be some kind of fever dream. There's no other possible way to explain it. How did she go from Cranagan to... Whatever this place is? Certainly not so fast, or without anyone noticing, least of all her precious knights and Unison Device who are no doubt scouring the city in her absence. The crystals everywhere, and the landscape, aren't exactly helping. But one doesn't get to be an investigator without being able to figure out some answers for herself, which brings Hayate to her present position: searching for some kind of clue to where the hell she is. Which would be fine, except some kind of local wildlife - was that really a mosquito, of all things to show up on an unadministered world? - seems to have bit her, putting a bit of a damper on her search.

And now, as her legs start to give under her as she walks and she's very uncomfortably reminded of her stint in a wheelchair a decade ago, she's a few steps away from a very unsightly meltdown.]

It would be paralysis of the legs, when it's me getting kidnapped out of headquarters!

[As she drags herself forward as best she can, she absently triggers whatever emergency protocols she can manage without focus via Schwertkreuz - she needs all the focus she can get to stay on her feet. If the Bureau's listening, someone's going to hear her. She's screaming as loud as she can... digitally and telepathically over emergency channels, of course, but it still counts, right?]

[E | at face value]
[Even in her childhood, Hayate had read enough books not to assume something marked as food was actually safe to eat. Thankfully, since then Hayate's become part of an advanced society that can probably tell her if-]

Unable to ascertain safety for consumption.

What do you mean, unable-?

[-okay, perhaps she can't quite depend on technology to take the risk out of decisions. The synthesized, audible voice in Belkan is no more directly comprehensible to her than it was long, long ago; but she's not the Mistress of the Night Sky for nothing, so it's not a problem, since she gets a proper translation through her Device. No, the only problem is that she can't tell if she can eat this, but she's rapidly approaching the point where she doesn't care. There's a healing spell in the Tome, right? It'll be fine... probably.]

[F | at something other than face value]
[Meanwhile, having discovered the strange wand, she picks it up, inspecting it. When it starts to vibrate, she startles, but she keeps looking at it; when she realizes what the dial likely controls, her face flushes. Still, it's an important artifact (?) and should be taken care of, in case it's more than it seems. Gingerly, trying not to cringe, she sets it back down; once she releases it, the buzzing stops, and she lets out a small breath.]

Who knows how long it's been here, yet it still works... I'm not sure if it's amazing technology or if I should just be creeped out. [A small smile as she tries to boost her own mood with the comment; it's probably a bad sign, though.]

[G | we're not in Bureau space anymore]
[The prospect of rescue lifts Hayate's spirits after what feels like an eternity on this strange planetoid, though her Device insists it's only been a day or so. The ships are... strange, not a design she's ever seen in a Bureau armory, but that's not inherently strange. What is strange is the scientists asking questions, though she's not going to complain too much, given they're being taken somewhere (allegedly) safe. She doesn't argue and does her best to answer questions, even as they start to get weird.]

I'm not sure why you need fluid samples, but I wouldn't mind a blood test if it'd help make sure everything's okay?

[A drink of real, actual liquid that's reasonably fresh is a welcome change, and after she downs it she retreats to one of the bunks to destress, whether or not she manages a nap. She's fairly sure she won't even mind sharing - it wouldn't be the first time.]

[Z | wildcard and notes]
[Yes, I'm two hours late with Starbucks and a speeding ticket, but I can do whatever if desired! Message me on this journal with ideas or questions this time, please. Hayate is coming from post-StrikerS but before Vivid.]

[Who knows what the pattern is? It would have made sense if they were all spirits, because Gawain could just assume that somehow someone had acquired a bunch of unique catalysts or that the Throne had made the choice for whatever reason it decided to do such things.

The demand, nay, the statement that is made, would almost shock Gawain, if not for how serious it is. And because of that, he doesn't even laugh, because it is also a perfectly reasonable request. And what kind of knight would he be if he refused?]

Very well, then I accept your generous offer. I believe we can work well together, especially in a situation like this.

[He wants to see what this Percival is capable of anyways and if he is as intelligent as the one Gawain knows.]

[On the extremely bright side, Nanoha having found a comrade was ... blessedly fortuitous. On the downside, they were still stuck there, she couldn't exactly fly off the planetoid they were trapped on, and no contact with the TSAB could be reached.

Still. Hayate! They'd figure something out, one way or another. They always had, right?

As the other young woman is examining the thing she'd picked up and ... reacting, Nanoha drifts up behind her, not saying anything until she's set it down.]

[ Oh the places they'll go, the sick flips they'll accomplish. Ven, it's Christmas and the gift that keeps giving is the crazy stuff they're going to do together on that glider. Crazy, reckless, assuredly dangerous stuff that will probably get them scolded but you only live once. ]

[ Usually. ]

You don't have to, it's... pretty amazing.

[ He didn't really give a crap about pixie dust or the concept of flight until he had friends to enjoy it with. Having this idea associated with such fond memories? Honestly, it just makes him even more eager to try it. ]

[ Aqua sighs, stretching a little as she returns to the bunks. She's been moving in and out of this area, trying to see if anyone else she knows had been found, but even with the rest she's gotten she has to admit that she's a little exhausted.

Okay, a lot exhausted. Still, as much as she could really just use the rest, she's can't just let herself sit down and stay down for the whole trip.

But she needs the rest now, and of course there isn't a bunk that's free. Not that she would actually try to keep anyone else from doubling up with her but it would be nice to just be able to flop on one of the beds for a while without having to ask.

So she heads over to the nearest bunk that just so happened to have Hayate at it.]

Aqua can't help but smile at that enthusiasm. After all, she was probably one of those 'strong people' that Nanoha was mentioning... even if she hadn't really had a chance to do anything that would make anyone realize it.

Still, just because people were strong didn't mean that they were unbeatable or didn't have reasons to worry, but she doesn't need to point that out to Nanoha. No need to make someone who might not be able to fight worry unnecessarily.

Besides, there hasn't been a single Heartless on this world left, and while Vanitas was here and could summon the Unversed, he had made it pretty clear that he had no plans to go on a rampage with them. They might not have much of anything to worry about.

"You're probably right. Even without those of us brought in here, I'm sure that any wild animals are something the government here can handle."

Aqua hadn't missed that hint of distrust in Nanoha's statement. Which was smart, considering, well, they really know nothing about this place. Outright stating it might not be the smartest thing to do at the moment though, especially this early.

Ah, Nanoha-ch-

[Then the other shoe drops, and she shrieks in a very unbecoming fashion, stumbling to wheel around and look at-]

Nanoha-chan! It really is you! Oh, thank heavens, I was starting to wonder- um, don't ask me what that was. I think I know and I wish I didn't.

No, that's okay. After today I could probably sleep on the floor just fine, so I can deal with a crowded bed.

Ah, really...?

[Doesn't that raise some questions if that's what you find laying on the ground, Hayate? She looks a little quizzical, before focusing back on the other woman.]

Yeah. I'm alright. Just tired. Being in this situation isn't exactly easy to deal with, even if there wasn't anything out that that was a threat.

[ Well, physical threat, anyway. Starvation was still a threat.]

Distrust in authority is... Not something Nanoha always had, but she's seen enough things within her own organization at this point. Or at least been privy to it. These people are strangers, and they are asking a lot of really personal questions... or making a lot of personal assumptions about them.

"Ah, with technology this advanced, I'd hope so. If not, I'd think we'd be in a lot more trouble."

Which doesn't mean they're not in a lot more trouble.

[ Impossible indeed. Olivia had very low emotional capacity to begin with, yet she had loathed the Supreme Primarch and his absolute power, his 'mercy' which had been no kinder than a swift death. She feels a dim resentment for him even now, outside her eternal prison. (She belonged in Pandemonium more than she belonged here, and the thought would sicken her were she sentimental enough to allow it the opportunity.)

She doesn't shy away from Lucilius' touch, the brisk examination a mimicry of nostalgia. Time and history make little sense here (when and how did he pass?), but she whittles away her errant thoughts to focus on the present. She would ask her questions later. ]

...I'm not certain. However I was administered a drug by the natives.

[ Possibly a poison, if she could be considered 'ill' in her current state. Her brow furrows as she tries to procure more details for Lucilius, with little avail. ]
