... Well, I don't have a story to back it up or anything, but you can outsmart yourself being too cautious, too.
Here's how I see it. Obviously not a lot of people live around here, right? But I'll bet people come here. Exploring, maybe, or studying. Seems like it's far away from civilization, though, so if something happened and you got lost or ran out of supplies, you'd be in trouble. Can't really forage for a meal from just... sand.
This is something that looks like a supply cache, in the exact kind of place you'd expect somebody to leave a supply cache. It doesn't look old enough to not be edible anymore, and if it was some kind of trap... why? Whoever left this has no way of knowing when or if somebody is gonna find it, or if somebody does, who they are. The villagers had a good reason to try and trap the raven, but what's the point of leaving out a box of poison that might kill somebody you don't know, at a time you don't know?
