Qrow has earned 0 points to make Weiss respect him. She does at least hold some level of respect—he's a trained huntsman and is Ruby's uncle, but the cons outweigh the pros. He's not on good terms with her sister who happens to be the best person in all of Remnant; he's also always drunk; his depressive state as of late has been more hazardous to the party than it has been helpful. Qrow was the only adult RWBY, Jaune, Nora, Ren, and Oscar travelled with, apart from Maria. Of course they all relied on him to a certain degree. The truth hit him hard though, and he's yet to bounce back from it.
Despite all that, Qrow is still more skilled than she is. Even if he may not be as reliable as one would like him to be, Weiss hands over the device to him without any hints of protest. She'll wait for him to investigate it - maybe there's something there that he would only know about based on his experience.
