Well, Sylvari only came in to existence less than thirty years ago! They were created in a place that was later called The Grove when a centaur named Ventari met a man named Ronan who had planted a mysterious seed. Ventari tended to it after Ronan passed and it eventually grew into the "mother" of all Sylvari, the Pale Tree. We unfortunately learned after they had already been relatively integrated into Tyrian society that they were the product of the elder dragon Mordremoth, intended to be his minions, but many rejected that and fought on our side against him.

And Norn are simply much larger humans who hail from the Shiverpeaks.
