Moon Iris; Lunar Scientia, Lunatia | top

You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Even the few shy moon creatures you find in the wild have strange crystal growths on their hides. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers yields nothing but an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

After a day or two of living off the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. After the strange phenomenon during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why didn’t I take the blue pill? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay.

While waiting for transport to be prepared, you may freely roam around the government center. Eventually you’re called back from exploring, escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel. Destination: Prismatica.

At the Lunar Scientia Headquarters on Level 1, there is a new research area called the Amphoria Room, where curious scientists and engineers discover and develop new ways to further understand the Moonblessed. Its state-of-the-art VR technology allows its users to run simulated spaces created directly from their imaginations. Using a Moonblessed's memories, the simulations give others a peek into their world, perhaps deepening their relationship with each other as well as with the Prismals. The scientists aren't going to force you to use it, but why not give it a shot? All who use the Amphoria Room will be given a reward for their first attempt.

A ⬤ To upload your memories to the machine, you are given a neural transmitter worn like an earring. Some may feel a small, numb zap in the back of your head, but as the scientists told you, it's completely harmless. Soon, pixels and polygons surrounding you quickly build scenery from your mind. Perhaps it's an imagined world to your liking, with sheep that roll down hills, cars that run on love, and people who worship you like a rock star. Or maybe it’s a familiar scene with nostalgic places, events or even memories of a special someone. Everything will appear lifelike and to scale the moment you think of it. Those who can see your virtual world with you are free to interact with it.

B ⬤ But you're not a rock star, and not all that glitters is gold. The Amphoria Room is still in beta, so some of the characters in your virtual creation may act erratic or out of character. This may range from funny bugs, like walking and T-posing NPCs who want to establish dominance, to more disturbing errors... NPCs might go off-topic to speak of loneliness and suffocation. At times, they will convulse and pull at their bodies until they are naked. Some will start begging you to “set us free.” Their repeating whispers soon evolve into resounding chants, and it isn’t long until the NPCs start oozing purple liquid from underneath their digital flesh. There's a good chance a tentacle might burst out of them and spill onto the ground, twitching feebly for your attention. If any of them try to attack you, there’s no need to worry. You won't die in real life!

If anything gets out of hand, the scientists will quickly come to the rescue, immediately end all simulations, and usher the Moonblessed out of the room for their own safety. The scientists say this never happened during their Prismal-only runs… They will look into this. For now, the Moonblessed participants can have their reward, as promised: a crystal. To learn more about crystals, read on!

Love It or List It: Lunatia Edition
Lunatia | top

After barely avoiding a virtual tentacling in the digital sea, it’s better to move on. There’s a whole city to explore!

A ⬤ Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.

Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

B ⬤ A rabbit-eared mage runs a popular crystal shop on Level 1 that sells — you guessed it — crystals of all kinds. Most crystals are used by the locals to store demichroma for later use in everyday spells and arcane artifacts, but if you put chroma in them, they will shatter and the energy will take the form of a small sprite. Ever since the last Encircling, many customers have been complaining about sprites invading their home, eating their food, stealing their jewelry, and leaving glittery droppings all over the furniture!

The shop owner asks you to retrieve as many of them as you can, using a net and a special whistle that attracts them. Hurry, before they make a mess! Oh, and please don't touch them directly. Direct contact with the sprites will cause them to overload with chroma and explode into a frightening amount of rainbow glitter. If you successfully bring the sprites back, she will give you a… card? Huh. Well, she promises it will be useful.

When Life Gives You Dragonfruits
Anywhere | top

A day after settling in your apartment, you get new mail at your door. It’s a gift package from Lyestellus Kingdom and its thankful citizens. The Moonblessed tended to their precious children last month, saving their future generations. As a token of their never-ending gratitude, they’ve sent a generous basket of succulent fruits! On the card, they explain that these grow on the bushes around their mountain springs.

Little do they know of the fruit's side effects on the Moonblessed. Eating the fruit will yield any or all of these effects:

A ⬤ “Dragon Eyes” - Your pupils will narrow and your eyes will glow. You will be able to see a person's mood through the color of their auras. The colors you see are up to you. But for some reason, you might also see what’s under their clothing as well. (As always, please ask OOC permission before doing so!)

B ⬤ “Dragon Fire” - You will be able to — surprise of surprises — blow fire from your mouth. While the fire will not hurt you, almost everything the fire comes into contact with can and will be set aflame. Others who have eaten the fruit cannot burn, but they will feel the impact of the flames, as if they are being pushed back!

C ⬤ “Dragon Song” - Your voice will become beautiful to hear. Anything you say, hum or sing will come out in pleasant melodies regardless if you’ve previously never had musical talent... or are even singing. It might even make others want to sway to your words, dance and follow you wherever you go, even if they don’t want to!

All effects last for an hour before they wear off. Eat with moderation or you’ll experience temporary heartburn!

[ This place holds no particular distinction in Olivia's memory, but it's familiar enough that she recognizes it to be from where she'd originated over two millennia ago. It isn't nostalgia that overwhelms her, however, but wariness, as she only knows of three others here (possibly a fourth) who could recreate this scenery.

—None of the candidates she has in mind are correct, and she deduces through the obsolete uniform which of the two she finds is the host of the memory, and which the illusion. She approaches her brethren briskly, and while she lacks certain sentimental emotion, she's still eager to greet him. ]

Sariel.

[ She hasn't seen their executioner since the rebellion, but then again she hadn't seen Belial either, until she'd arrived to this world. It shouldn't be so surprising that another one of the fallen has been brought here as well, though after so many centuries spent in Pandemonium, it's admittedly jarring. (She doesn't notice the anthill just yet, and she pointedly chooses to ignore the lifelike render of their former deputy.) ]

What happened to your wings...?

[ He's missing an alarming number of them. ]

[ sariel thinks he could spend an eternity watching the building ants go about their day-to-day tasks. they're always so diligent, and just like them, he remains earnest in watching them quietly. content to spend the entire day like this. it probably would have been the case too, had someone else not enter the picture -

he looks up, failing to catch what belial just said about being careful. ]

Olivia.

[ it's been a while since he last saw her too. she isn't part of this memory, but he replies to her question with an honest answer regardless. ]

About my wings... Uriel ripped them out, and so did the Deputy Head.

[ he's so casual about it too, like it's no big deal. (at least he still has one left?! thanks to his summon... who knows.) ]

[ If anyone could forcibly remove Sariel's wings, it would be the strongest warrior of the four Primarchs... Had it happened during the purge? Her knowledge of both past and future is limited; she'd been on the other side of the battlefield during the rebellion, arrived to this world from an earlier timeline as well. (That Belial had also contributed to his current state... Well, he's already proven to be a treacherous cur, and her surprise is well-contained.) ]

Is that so? [ Though he's never really been the conversational sort, she'll need to ask him some more questions eventually. ]

Belial is no longer the Deputy Head.

[ She would explain but... how much would her acquaintance understand? Besides, he seems quite comfortable here (happy, she'd almost say were they capable of joy), oddly complacent for a soldier who could take out a hoard of Otherworld creatures with only half his body remaining. (Meanwhile, their commanding officer doesn't seem to pay her much attention in this simulation, tethered to Sariel's consciousness and not hers.) ]

...How long have you been here?

[ The amphoria room, or Lunatia, she's not picky for an answer. She crouches down next to him to see for herself what he's so fixated on. (...Ants?) ]

[personal profile] balks 2019-06-11 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ most of the initial shock from having his wings ripped out were smothered by the fact that he was still under control during the first time, but the second time around is... something he's still trying to wrap his mind around. it's not like the deputy head will ever give him a straight answer, so maybe it's better off that he didn't know. if he really thinks about it, he supposes it doesn't really matter in the long run.

he looks up at the mention of belial, glancing at the imitation of his former self in white uniform before focusing on olivia once again. ]

I was told about that. Uriel spent some time telling me everything that happened in the last two thousand years. [ a beat passes. ] It seems... I missed out on a lot.

[ understatement of the century.

belial's simulation says things that fit within sariel's memory of this event, but the former executioner is no longer listening to him. the ants are more important since they help him stop thinking. ]

It's been two days since I first woke up surrounded by crystals. Is it the same for you?

[ Uriel again... She hasn't sensed the primarch's presence here yet, and his was an aura (and person) much too big to miss. If it's only been a couple days since Sariel's woken, she presumes for now the other fallen is referring to a time before his arrival. ]

I could say the same. I wasn't even aware you were still alive.

[ Her gaze follows Sariel's, flicking briefly to the white-clad projection of the former deputy, dropping again to observe the anthill. She almost feels as if she's between two strangers, figments of her own memories. ]

Though, I've been here closer to three months. [ After a thoughtful pause, ] ...You haven't been watching these ants the entire time, have you?

[ Surely he wouldn't be left to his own devices by the scientists for that long, and yet it's not so improbable to her that he could hunker down in this imagined park for days on end... ]

[personal profile] balks 2019-06-16 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[ all things considered, sariel knows he should be dead. he doesn't have any idea how to explain why he's alive right now because he barely understands it himself. rather than saying anything, he sneaks a quiet glance over the simulated belial, who in turn tilts his head at him, before his focus switches back to olivia. ]

Raphael and Uriel saved me, but now I am here.

[ as for the ants, he has to think about that too. ]

After the examinations, watching ants was the first thing I thought of doing. [ if he had his way, he'd definitely spend an eternity just watching the little guys go about their daily lives. ] This park is just like I remembered.

[ the deputy head too, down to the very same words that swayed sariel's loyalty so easily. ]

You don't have to stay here if you'd rather look at something else.

[ That is... quite a few scraps of conflicting information she's collected. Belial, Uriel, now Raphael. Sariel having his wings ripped off, then being rescued from whatever demise was awaiting him. (Since when did the primarchs side with the fallen?) None of it makes any sense—she wonders if she ought to question his sanity rather than his intelligence.

At least, his memory does seem strong enough given how meticulously rendered this particular scene is. She also trusts he's incapable of lying, which makes him already more reliable than their mutual, fabricated acquaintance . ]

It's a lovely space, and it's been some time since I've been here. [ (She can appreciate their shared 'home', even if she doesn't really share his fascination with ants.) ]

...I've already seen plenty around here. But wouldn't you like to look around for yourself? There's much to see.

[ He certainly won't be able to live in this simulation by any means... It's best she introduces him to the rest of Lunatia sooner rather than later. ]

I can accompany you to a number of other parks in the city. Perhaps they'll have ants, too.
