▶ Fox and Friends
Moon Iris; Lunar Scientia, Lunatia | top

You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Even the few shy moon creatures you find in the wild have strange crystal growths on their hides. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers yields nothing but an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

After a day or two of living off the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. After the strange phenomenon during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why did I think grocery store sushi was a good idea? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff gives you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay.

While waiting for transport to be prepared, you may freely roam around the government center. Eventually you’re called back from exploring, escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel. Destination: Prismatica.

a.) An envoy of Prismals with fox-like traits is currently visiting Prismatica to meet with the Queen. Their kind was so awed by tales of the Moonblessed that they have gathered to greet all of them with a ritual dance of their people. They also offer to teach the Moonblessed an amazing trick — with a wink!

Flowing robes follow their delicate bodies as they perform a passionate series of steps and acrobatics with their paper fans. Early in the performance, they peek above their open fans and wink at their audience. At that moment, your limbs are suddenly enchanted with exceptional grace. Couldn’t put your leg behind your head before? Had trouble doing a split? Well, now you can perform these flexible feats and more. The fox Prismals will be inviting the Moonblessed to join them so they can attempt to feel their invigorating chroma against their bodies.

b.) The dexterity spell the fox Prismals cast is one of many a fox has in their repertoire of charms and curses. It can be very useful for making a quick escape! While the older fox Prismals teach this spell to the interested Moonblessed (read: teach them how to wink and use chroma at the same time), you can explore the city with the younger fox Prismals.

A delicious drink called bubbly tea is very popular among teenagers in Lunatia right now! Unfortunately, defective apricot pearls inside may cause you to float a few feet in the air. This effect goes away as soon as the affected pass the pearls at a bathroom, but getting there will be an adventure. Maybe you Moonblessed have abilities that can get rid of the effect? The fox Prismals don’t have a spell to cure this...

Help the affected young fox Prismals get to a bathroom and they will teach you another spell: simply place a finger over your lips, and no one else but your friends can listen in on your secret conversations!

▶ Crab ‘n Go Menu

Several tents decorated with streamers, shells, and pearls have been set up along the shorelines of Level 2. A giant clam mascot tells you that hey, hey, hey! There’s a beach festival happening tonight! It will be full of fun activities, and anybody who is anybody will be there. The Prismals involved are inviting people all around Levels 1 and 2. Bathing suits will be provided to all participating festival-goers. What are they celebrating? Who knows. Maybe Prismals just want to have a good time! Hey, hey, hey!

a.) One of Lunatia’s favorite beach party games is “Find the King Crab.” King crabs have a golden belly and are hidden among other disgruntled crabs. Protip: king crabs are often found in the center of large clusters of crabs. Be careful while flipping them; they are very eager to clip anything that comes near their nest! Be the first to find a king crab and claim the grand prize —- an all-you-can-eat buffet for four at a King Crab Sandcastle, a high-end seaside seafood restaurant. You now get to exact vengeance on these crabs by eating as many as you please.

b.) There’s an educational tent promoting the soothing pastime of conch listening. Glossy conchs of various shapes and sizes can be found on the tables. Some special ones are said to link to one’s innermost self. Special conchs are encrusted with tiny glistening gems, making them easy to spot in the sunlight. Pressing them to your ear will draw forth the sound of someone’s voice — be it yours or someone familiar. Depending on the listener’s mood, the sound of the voice will range from peaceful singing to blood-curdling screams.

c.) Another tent is dedicated to scuba diving. You can either rent out a special set of nodes which are worn on either side of your neck to replicate the function of gills, allowing you to breathe safely beneath the water, or traditional scuba diving gear since some Prismals like the challenge! Explore Lunatia’s vast undersea world and bear witness to its wonders, such as its crystalline corals and tropical fish, a myriad of species unique to Prismatica. A few of these species are the rainbow seahorses carrying newborns in their pouches and greater clownfishes that can’t seem to find their offspring. Venture further under and you will eventually find aquatic bears with scaled bodies that seem to be very territorial over their habitat and hoard of delicious (?) sea honey. As they often say, don’t poke the bear…

As the festival winds down, some Prismals can be seen dancing and eating by the campfire. Everyone is welcome to relax and watch a nice fireworks show by the pier while a local band known as the Briny Seamen plays a compilation of their greatest hits. Expect an uncomfortable amount of marimba solos!

▶ Some Assembly Required
LEVEL 2, LUNATIA | top

Once you’ve been all crabbed out for the day, you can finally settle in your new home in Level 2:

a.) Find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.

Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

b.) All Moonblessed new and old receive a frazzled email from their favorite Moon Knight, Fahrouk. He was involved in Obscuria’s Glow affair, resulting in both him and his daughter becoming new unofficial Moonblessed Community Ambassadors.

I am writing to let you know there is a sale at KRABBA, Lunatia’s most popular flat-packed furniture store. All crab-themed decors are 50% off!

Here is a picture of my daughter with her new KRABBA shelf. Now we can display our Moonblessed bromides with joy and pride! We had so much fun putting it together and hope you do too.

True enough, attached is a picture of him and his daughter standing in front of some newly assembled furniture as well as a map to the KRABBA store in Level 2.

Also true is the sale at KRABBA! The prices are affordable, but the crab-themed items are especially cheap and ready to brighten anyone’s day. Among the notable items in stock are a sea shell-shaped loveseat called Havsskal, a foamy green kitchen table named Tång, and a bed named Havsbotten that somehow resembles the sandy sea floor. Please do not lie down on the beds! The staff have been made to wear crab-themed outfits and will not hesitate to use those claws to get people in line.

After paying at the cashier for your items, feel free to order some of KRABBA’s signature meat (?) balls with Moonberry sauce. You deserve a break!

[Gonta might nod, but Konoha isn’t so easily fooled. Not when it comes to this. (Mostly.)

Her thumb keeps moving, slow and steady along his cheek.]

... that was the scariest part. For me.

... I want to stay with you in this place.

[ He quietly admits. For a moment he feels like the young colt he was in Mikuni's care, helpless and very lost. ]

[She wasn’t lying- that had been the scariest part for her. And that was even with her travels with the Circle under her belt. If she’d come here straight from their world...

Her hands fall to his again, clasp them tight. One step at a time. Simple.]

Then- Let’s go back to the city. I picked out a place... It’s weird like most of the places here, but it’s got a lot of space, and the tables are the right height, and there’s a place in the entranceway to get the dirt off our hooves...

[And if she’s blushing it’s definitely not because she’s remembering husband and wife. The place she’s picked out thinking she’d be alone in this foreign place... it would now be where she and Gonta both lived.]

[Gonta nods and holds her hands tight right back. This was what he needed. Right now, it's all Konoha he had in this world. And somehow, just knowing that made a lot of things better.]

I brought some things with me. The things I took with me the day we were going to the mountain together. I left them in the room they gave me. Can we go together to pick them up before we go to your place?

Of course!

[Just like she’d told him, that fateful day in the woods behind her parents’ home... it was fine to just pick a plan and do it, without thinking too hard about it. So they’d just take it one step at a time... and things would work out. Surely.

She’s loathe to let go of his hands, but she takes one of hers back to wipe the last of her tears and point back towards the city as if to lead the way... until she remembers she doesn’t know it.]

Ehe... I’ll let you lead first, then... ?

[It's a good thing Gonta naturally does have a good sense of direction if he's been to a place once.]

Right. Come along.

[He holds one of her hands tightly as he takes the lead, pulling her along to where his apartment was. Thankfully, the Prismals gave him a first level place, with one of those wide, sliding doors. He opens it up and inside is the harness he had taken off, as well as a couple of bundled packages and cots for sleeping out in the wilderness. There were rations, too.]

I ate a couple, but... I hope it didn't spoil yet. Your mother gave us some plum rice balls.

[Konoha still can't believe it's real.

She's walking through the city with Gonta. She's holding his hand, trotting along beside him with her fingers laced tight with his, blushing happily the entire time. Even though probably no one really is, she feels like everyone might be looking... but also she doesn't really care?

This is really happening.

Peeking into his apartment, Konoha perks up immediately, heart tightening. It was just a rice ball, the simplest of things, but. Her mother had made it. The mother she hadn't seen in nearly a year.]

Really?

[All around the room is even more proof of what he'd said, that they'd been traveling back to the mountains together. A harness, packages and cots...]

Even if they're spoiled I'll eat them! I will!

Hey, hey! Are you sure?

[Gonta's voice rose a bit in concern. Now that they were alone, he seemed a bit more like himself.]

I can't have you getting sick!

[He opens up the rations he had been taking away from bit by bit, really because he couldn't trust this world. There were the rice balls he was talking about, along with a few other preserved things for long journeys. He takes one of them in his hand and gives it a look, a sniff...]

... this one should be okay.

[And he hands it to Konoha, his eye meeting hers-- and his mouth curls into a smile. They were together. In the solitude of this room, he felt the best he's ever been through this entire ordeal. Alone with his wife, sharing food with her, making sure she wouldn't get ill.]

I'm positive!

[Emotional already, she can't help but be moved by seeing something so directly tied to her family, seeing Gonta relax a bit once they were alone. Eagerly she reaches out to take the rice ball, lips curling into a tentative smile in response to his own.

She can't help but sniff it herself, getting a little teary-eyed. She'd been eating her mother's rice balls since she could remember, and the smell was just so nostalgic that she can't even wait, unwrapping the bamboo leaves from around it and taking a hearty bite, mumbling around her mouth full.]

It's so good... Thank you...

[ Gonta smiles down warmly at his wife, somehow getting the sense that she's really been through a lot. Especially if her being from a different time was all true... especially if she's been here much longer than he has...

Carefully, he moves closer to her, to gently pat her on the head as she ate the simple meal. ]

I'm happy I'm here now, with you.

[And he leans in to kiss her forehead warmly. He has no idea what she's been through, but whatever it was, it must have really taken a toll on her to be so emotional over one of her mother's rice balls.]

[It’s all she can do to turn her face up for that comforting gesture, eyes slipping closed a moment. It really was the simplest thing, but that made it all the better. Rice grown in her family’s fields. The plums she’d held gather, pickled in her mother’s blend of vinegar just a bit too long for most people’s tastes.]

Me too.

[It’s never tasted better, and she makes herself savor it... But it’s still gone before she knows it.

Gonta is still there, though. So she won’t cry again (not yet- misty eyed is fine, it doesn’t count!), smiling instead. Grateful for his presence, for a taste of home.]

Now it’s my turn to lead.

[The apartment she’d been given wasn’t too far away, as it turned out, and along the way Konoha points landmarks out as best she can, still learning herself. She’s a bit loathe to release his hand, but she does if only for the sake of opening the door, letting him in past her to a ground floor apartment with a similar layout but more... lived in.

There’s her harness by the entranceway, a hoof pick and file... in the living space is set two tables, one for standing jinba height and one for laying down, a few cushions here and there, the kitchen showing a lot of signs of use and still slightly smelling of the pickling she’d been doing herself. A set of bromide pictures, including one of herself, are displayed in place of honor on a mantle, alongside a large shell and a few other knickknacks, and there seem to be a separate bedroom and bathroom (indoor plumbing still blew her mind) leading off from the main space.]

This is me!

[Her hands fly to warming cheeks as she follows him in, knocking dirt off her hooves in the entranceway absently before correcting herself.]

- Us.

[“Us”!!!!]

[ Right now, Gonta was very grateful that Konoha came here before he did. He wouldn't know what to do with himself if she wasn't here. It gives him something to anchor on to, someone familiar... who was also open to new experiences in contrast to him being very closed off. But, he's learning from her. He learned from her in the village before and now he's learning from her again.

He listens to everything she says, everything she points out-- pays attention to the way the roads are going to her-- no-- their place.

And when she says "us," he couldn't help but feel very warm at that. ]

We'll be living together here, then?

[ He looks around, taking in the details, appreciating how everything really seemed to be made for a jinba. It's an incredible relief.

But those things on the mantle are... surprising. And one looks like Konoha? He points them out to her once he's done clearing the dirt from his hooves as well.]

... what are those?

Yeah...

[Living together... As man and wife... Her cheeks feel so warm beneath her hands, and they stay there at first as she follows him in, a smile blooming on her features as she watches him look around... ]

Oh- these!

[Excited to show him, she trots forward on the soft wood-patterened floors, (she's used to packed dirt and wood, and she doesn't know what this material is, but it's not as hard as wood but still so easy to sweep???), to reach the mantle, excitedly taking down the bromides to bring back and show him up close.]

Here they can make paintings of people so easily, so I got some to take home and show you what kind of people were here... Look- It's me!

[She shows them off proudly, displaying cards of herself, and... several other foreign looking people. A brown-haired android, a large man whose coloring looks rather like Gonta's, an elegant, white-haired man in kimono, a surly looking blond man with a wolf, a kind looking woman with long hair...]

[Gonta follows her and he's a bit weirded out by the sound his heavy hooves are making against the floor. The feeling is strange, too... but hell-- everything is strange. But he's keeping his focus on Konoha. As long as she's here, he'll be fine. He keeps that mantra in his mind.

And she shows him the bromides and he looks at them both in fascination and curiosity.]

... these... are all people you know?

Mmhhm, some of them.

[There's about ten or so cards, which she flips through slowly, tempted to just launch into explanations about each one, but- it seems a bit too much too soon, and so instead she just shows them off and then puts them back in pride of place alongside the large conch shell.]

It's because of their kindness that I was able to figure this place out in the first place...

[Unbidden, her hands move up to her warm cheeks again, unable to contain her excitement and relief as she turns back around to fairly glow at him.]

I can't wait to introduce you... But don't worry! We can take it as slow as you like.

I'm glad...

[Gonta looked down at the faces, committing them to memory before looking back at Konoha. It's been a day. And true enough, while she was very eager, Gonta... didn't really have that kind of energy. He's a man of the mountain, after all. Things move slowly in his world.

Speaking of which, he was starting to feel his tiredness from just... everything in this world. And-- his stomach grumbled loudly.]

...

[Oops.]

Hungry?

[She doesn’t mean to, but Konoha can’t help but laugh just a little at the loud rumble and the look on his face, coming back to smile up at him, fingers shyly hooking in the tie of the pelt around his waist. Just in case... She didn’t want to let him go or out of her sight just yet.]

How about I make some food... we get a good rest... and then tomorrow, we start learning more about this place... okay?

[Together.]

Y-yeah... sorry. That sounds good.

[Gonta looks at her, embarrassed but also just very grateful that this weird world let them stay together. He bows at her-- old habits from the workplace died hard.]

I'll be in your care.

[The bow she returns at first, starting to blush again at the recollection of the last village wedding she'd been to- how the newly married couple had drunk their sake and then bowed to each other...]

I'll be in your care, too.

[But it also gives her a chance to take advantage of him not towering over her so badly, straightening back up... so that she'd be quite close once he raised his head.]

Say, Gonta...

[Her expression is a bit mischievous over the open adoration, biting a little on her bottom lip.]

Could I kiss you again first... ?

Mm?

[He's taken by surprise as he notices her so close now. And as she speaks, his cheeks color all rosy with affection towards her. This is nice. And in the privacy of their own place, there's no need for him to hold back anymore. With a warm smile, he replies.]

... of course.

[Part of her still can’t believe this was happening.

When she’d woken up this morning, she’d been alone in a foreign land with no other jinba... and hours later, she’s sharing her home with (basically) her husband. The whiplash might catch up with her later, but until then...

She eagerly presses into a kiss, half ready for excitement to push it into something deeper, more longing, but- She keeps it sweet for now, mostly chaste, pulling away with eyes still fairly sparkling with happiness.]

You lay down and take it easy... I’ll make some dinner.

[He’s had a long day.]

[He has to admit that he's really appreciative of her consideration. After all that he's been through in the past couple of days, while he was happy to be able to be with her and be able to kiss her, he still wanted to keep things very slow. There was still a lot he needed his mind to wrap around.]

Thanks.

[So he settles somewhere to rest until Konoha makes dinner.]

[She can’t help but keep checking on him, even while she keeps busy making dinner. It’s not something she has to concentrate on much, cooking was something she’d been helping her mother with since she was old enough to learn, and there was technology here that Connor had taught her how to use that made things easier- like the rice cooker.

He really did look tired... She can’t help but remember what Mikuni had said to her, that day when Gonta had bolted from her parents home to find relief alone amongst the trees... her expression growing a bit worried when she peeks in on him between preparing dishes.

Less than a half hour later, she comes back in with a tray piled with fresh food- salt grilled fish, large bowls of rice and soup, some of the pickles she’s been making...

Lumbering to her knees beside him, she smiles tenderly as she sets the drops down in front of him, pushes it towards him encouragingly.]

... how’s this? You should eat something fresh.

[Gonta looks with mild amazement at all that Konoha had prepared. In the midst of everything being so foreign, this simple meal made by his wife's hands feels far more welcome-- makes him feel so much more at ease. After days of eating random things that didn't make sense to him but kept him alive all the same, this meal was like finding an oasis in the desert.]

It looks good. Itadakimasu.

[Immediately, he eats as if he hadn't had anything in days, practically inhaling all the food set before him.]

[There might be a lot of new and exciting foods in this place she’s been enjoying trying when she goes out, but... when it comes to cooking this is what she knows. And unlike in their world... this one had refrigerators and microwaves which meant leftovers kept amazingly.

She’s always taken a simple pleasure from watching people enjoy food she’s made, but she feels more glad than she thinks she ever has, watching him eat it. Watching her husband eat it.

Konoha fairly glows with content watching him, reaching over to absently place a hand on his withers, thumb tracing lovingly over his shoulder with a touch of moonlace warmth. She’d eaten earlier, so she lets him dig in by himself, only giving a small laugh when he was almost done.]

Did that help? My mother always said... Food doesn’t fix everything, but everything’s easier to fix when you’re full.
