I mean. Okay, serious answer? Emerald is a lil shit who used to be homeless most of her life with no one who cared for her, getting by stealing so she could feed herself using her semblance, which lets her make a person see/hear whatever she wants. Then Cinder offered to feed/house her for life and convinced her that she cared about her as long as she did whatever was asked for her, and Emerald became convinced Cinder is the only family she has because she was the first person to ever show her anything like care, so she does everything. At first she had fun with it but after basically bringing a kingdom to its knees she kind of was a lot less ok with it and she hasn't looked anything but skittish, angry, or traumatized in the last three volumes.

Probs gonna CRAU her from Empatheias, which means she'll have developed quite a bit to being no less of a little shit who likes to make fun of people, but she hasn't stolen/killed anyone in a couple of months and has been convinced that: 1. Cinder is dead and 2. Other people actually care about her, and they don't want her to kill for them. (Even if she will.) Also she cooks now and can manage not to kill a houseplant. It's a big improvement from street rat who doesn't know where her next meal's coming from.

I'm also considering canon-updating her to post-volume 6 too, since she was post-volume 4 in Emp. She didn't have a huge role in those volumes, but it would let her come to the realization that she's considering running from being a bad guy canonically too, despite learning that Cinder is alive. (She's just getting there two different ways in canon vs CRAU...)
