He has to get up off his knees first, which takes a while as he's a bit of a clumsy person; he pulls his coat up around himself and fixes the sleeve (slightly damp). As he follows after her, letting her lead the way, he fishes his gloves out of his pocket and pulls them on. Don't know what sort of things are on surfaces here.
