You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Even the few shy moon creatures you find in the wild have strange crystal growths on their hides. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers yields nothing but an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

After a day or two of living off the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. After the strange phenomenon during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why did I inhale all those permanent markers in the third grade? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay.

While waiting for transport to be prepared, you may freely roam around the government center. Eventually you’re called back from exploring, escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the moons and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as the local Prismals. The next destination: Prismatica.

Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated. After a quick tour of the city, new arrivals can find themselves getting cozy in their new homes.

A Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.

Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

B At the Crystarium Moonports is a new family restaurant called Grapplebears, here to serve your favorite dishes from all around the galaxy at affordable prices! The menu ranges from the atomically hot and spicy Chamakshalan curry rice, delectable dragonsaur steak served with mashed space-tatoes, to the sweet and creamy Lunatian milkshakes that bring all the boys to the yard, all prepared by their handsome and huggable bear crew.

As you might have noticed, the restaurant staff is a ragtag group with members from planets unknown to both Prismals and Moonblessed. The waiters and waitresses in particular are tall, muscular, leather-clad bears who take your order by whipping you with a special riding crop that compels you to bark out your order — but only if you ask to be, of course! They might induce you to reveal other unrelated interests so make sure you’re not thinking about anything embarrassing!

If you chat up the staff or customers, you learn more about the restaurant’s origins. The bears say their planets* were also wiped by the Calamity hundreds of years ago, and life for them has been difficult for them since then…

▶ Night of the Living Dummy
City of Lunatia | top

The last vestiges of Geistnacht have officially passed and the first chilly autumn breeze ushers in the new season. The city is awash in giant piles of browning leaves that decorate every walkway.

A To deal with the mass collection of fallen leaves, many buildings across the city have been retrofitted with a new disposal system to help clean up. A sprawling network of automated vacuum tubes around the city will efficiently suck all those pesky leaves right up. While children love playing inside and using them to “teleport” around Lunatia, they have also been known to spontaneously suck up anyone who’s not too careful. You may find yourself falling on some hapless bystander on their afternoon walk, or crammed in a tube with your new neighbors. Lunar Scientia officials warn everyone to be careful of where you walk, else you might need to crawl your way to sweet freedom.

B A pop-up shop in Level 1 is attracting much of the locals' attention, run by a peddler who speaks in a low, elongated hiss and wears a hood over his face. He assures you that his face is of no consequence. What is more important is his selection of wares! In contrast to his cloaked, enigmatic appearance, his travel cart is a Barbie pink explosion of frills, hearts, glitter. He will tell all visitors he comes from the Valley of the Crimson Serpents, which Prismals and older Moonblessed arrivals find odd. Wasn’t the Sanguis moon uninhabitable?

Among the peddler’s wares are adorable, wide-eyed and heavily perfumed dolls in all sorts of clothes a child dreaming of rainbows and tea parties could ever ask for. Hug and squeeze a doll, and you will be greeted by a pre-recorded voice telling you how they’re your bestest friend ever. It’s like they were made for lovin’ you! But if you look away for one moment, you can almost swear you hear a snake’s hiss, its long tongue licking the shell of your ear… The next time you see the doll, its body will be in a slightly different position or location. Is it… following you? Fortunately, a minimal amount of moonlacing will make it leave you alone. You can wait it out too, but why would you?

Destroy a doll and it will later reappear wherever you are when you least expect it, good as new, but leaking from their porcelain heads is a strange pink, glitter-covered liquid. The peddler calls it the “love juice” giving the doll an extra dose of affection for you.

▶ Bird is the Word
Level 2, Greatmoon Groves | top

As autumn paints Lunatia with its golden hues, pumpkin decorations and desserts are now in vogue. This is thanks to Chroma-infused pumpkin seeds, which allow them to rapidly grow in all sorts of sizes, shapes, and colors. The Moonblessed are invited to visit one of the largest pumpkin patches in the city housed within the Greatmoon Groves, where they can enjoy the sight of oversized, colorful neon and sparkling semi-phallic pumpkins, expertly carved to greet you with their buck-toothed smiles.

A The pumpkin patch is full of toddler-sized creatures called hugbugs. When they are not tending to the pumpkins, they follow the Moonblessed around, requesting hugs and treats in exchange for their obedience.

Reward them and they will do simple errands for you and give you compliments. They will also be your personal hype men, talking up your strengths, talents, and physical assets to all those special someones you’re trying to impress. Once you earn their trust, they will be your friends for life!

Ignore them, hurt them, or bully them, and they will cry and place a curse upon you, reducing your self-esteem to nothing and magically forcing you to cry along with them. The effects of the curse may last for up to a week if you’re not careful! But how could you do such a thing? The hugbugs are sensitive and want somebody to love.

B If you manage to survive your encounter with the hugbugs, you are welcome to join in on the Prismal knitting group and enjoy creating your own fanciful scarf made of Galadrian thread, which is known for its bright, golden sheen and aromatic properties. Give it to a friend or wear it yourself, and you will notice a strange ability to attract animals and insects of all kinds. Live out your Disney Princess fantasy! Or a Hitchcockian nightmare. It’s all a matter of perspective as a whole flock of honking birds comes bounding towards you.

[ ahh, wait. How does that even make any sense? He looks over Konoha now, wondering if anything had changed. She's kind of just pulling Mikuni's thoughts in every direction then as she mentions Gonta is here as well. He wasn't aware of that either. But it's good that they're together. ]

Gonta came here?

[ He perks slightly, before relaxing right after, a frown crossing his features. No, this doesn't make any sense. ]

It was months ago. A long time has passed. But I have seen you since. Many times.

I thought I was...

[She thought everyone would be worried that she was gone. Was afraid her parents might fear the worst. Because... she was here, surely, so she couldn’t be anywhere else, let alone back home? Some people tried to say that surely time stopped while they were gone, so maybe no one would notice she was gone... and she hadn’t understood how that could be either, but she’d hoped it was so... but after Gonta arrived...]

Gonta did! He’s here- Oh, not here I mean, he’s back home, but-

[She has to bring Mikuni back with her, right now? Already she’s starting to tug a bit, trying to draw him this way, no that way, out of the pumpkin patch and deeper into the Groves.]

What does “many times” mean? Gonta said we’d just set off for the mountains and that- that we were married-

[Which she wants to announce to him in excitement except apparently? he already knew that??? SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO HADN'T KNOWN?]

Do you come with us, Mikuni?

[ Mikuni nods, because he understands her confusion at the very least. It would be nice to know the mechanics of how their little trip to this world even works, how one of their own could be gone for a year and no one be the wiser. He shakes his head, as if to store the thought for a little later when they have more information.

And there is Gonta to think about. ]

Ah, he didn't come to the pumpkin patch? No wonder I have missed him.

[ What, he didn't want to pick penis-shaped gourds? Fine then.

Seriously though, he kind of just lets her tug him along, though some of the hugbugs are a little concerned about what's happening here. And- well. He knew about the marriage and the very bold confession Konoha gave. But if she wants the satisfaction of telling him, who is he to deny her?

He smiles gently, shaking his head. ]

What business would I have going with you? No, I was traveling. Looking for my men.

He went to the grove market with some of our crops, but- I know, we’ll go back home first, and surprise him when he comes back!

[She does make little apologies to the hug bugs, but she is definitely taking Mikuni, sorry guys. They are adorable, and they seem... maybe not as smart as people but... as smart as tiny children, maybe? They deserve a “sorry, excuse me, Mikuni has to go now...”]

He’s going to be so happy to see you, I just know it.

[Things... well, things here were just far easier for Konoha to handle than they were for Gonta. She’d grown up with humans. Sure, her village wasn’t large, but she was accustomed to trips into town, to festival day crowds every now and then. She had that much of an advantage when it came to being able to get comfortable and make friends here. Gonta...

She tries to wipe the little crease of worry from between her eyes, literally reaches up to poke at it and rub it out. This would be a happy thing, a good thing! She smiles! Even if-]

To live with us, and Gonta’s family... ? I don’t know... but- You’re traveling after we got married? Does that mean you’re from more “future” than we are?

[ Listen, Gonta is very excitable. But of course Mikuni is doing absolutely nothing to suggest that he's not okay with this kind of surprise. He also casts the hugbugs an apologetic glance. They are cute and fun but he doesn't really mind leaving them to the pumpkin patches for now. ]

I'm happy that you're both here, myself.

[ It's a little selfish, but he didn't really want to be the only jinba. Perhaps he's more adaptable than Gonta but it's not hard to be more adaptable than Gonta. ]

I would have thought you would appreciate alone time with Gonta much more than my presence interrupting it. - But yes, it seems possible now that I am slightly ahead.

Of course he will! It will be the best surprise he’s had since he got here, because-

[Because they’re friends? Because she hadn’t made him tell her everything, knew he likely was keeping certain aspects of his past and Mikuni’s to himself precisely because he didn’t want her to worry or know about those years, be reminded of the Jinba hunts when she’d been too young to recall them... But she still could tell. Still knew their bond was something special, and filled a need in Gonta that she was unable to.

Just... please excuse her as she... all but trips over her own hooves when Mikuni’s words register.]

[Gasp? What if the innocent hug bugs hear you? ... Nevermind, they’re harvesting phallic pumpkins, but. Her cheeks grow red immediately anyway, palms slapping against them as if to physically contain her blush.]

[ That's flattering though. Naturally he does have a very soft spot for Gonta. They've been through much together and even in similar situations though far apart. There is a lot between them, Konoha is right. It's a comfort for Mikuni just as much to have one of his former charges in his company again. And it will surely help him cope with this strange place too.

Not that Konoha's delightful demeanor isn't also a contender for that. ]

I'm not mistaken, am I? [ He knows you're still in the honeymoon phase. ] Don't worry, of course I will visit all the time.

No, you’re definitely mistaken- ! We don’t do anything at all anymore, so you’re not interrupting a thing!

[(Never has she said such a blatant lie. Maybe it doesn’t even count as a lie, that’s how bad it is. Because Sanguis just finished and they definitely do lots of “anything” when that happens. And when Iris happens. And when all the moons happen. And sometimes When there’s no moon.)

She all but groans dramatically to be assaulted so mercilessly so soon in that smiling Mikuni brand of teasing, but... she kind of missed it actually. Sure, others have teased her about her behavior in this place, but they’re not Mikuni! It’s different— especially since he’d all but been the main encourager of their relationship in the first place.]

W- we... we have to get you settled and everything... and this place is so strange, there’s all sorts of things to explain, with the moons and the chroma and everything...

[And as she leads him “home”, tail swishing beneath her skirt in embarrassment, they take a turn deeper into the groves rather than back towards the usual residential districts.]

[ Um, he knows you have a handful of kids with more on the way, so if you think he believes you for even one second, you're extremely wrong. He doesn't need to know about moon cycle incentives to know all of that!!

He smiles at her like he Knows things and allows her to start leading him away. Although he wonders if she's lost or if she has something else in mind, considering the way they're going. It's not like he knows his own way around very well yet. ]

I have already had a bit of a look around. But perhaps it would be easier if you explained some of it to me, yes.

N- nothing that having guests would interrupt!

[Which handles that just fine! Or so Konoha thinks, until a split second later when she realizes... she may have just accidentally implied that she’d still just be having sex even when guests were over...]

Well to start, it's basically all true...

The moonlacing thing has to happen but- I checked! Just sitting next to each other or holding hands is enough... and it works on all of us.

[Which, okay, might sound weird, but a Lunar Scientia employee had questioned whether someone leaning against her flank or laying a hand on her withers would generate as much chroma as if she held someone in her arms, so she'd been too worried not to check. It worked!]

And the moon thing is... also really true, [don't mind the deepening, memory-induced blush] but you won't know which you are until it happens, so... you might want to wear jinbakama for a while...

[Because she definitely makes Gonta wear proper clothes (by her standards) during Sanguis... At least Mikuni had taken to them far better than her husband had?! No one wants a surprise erection with no pants on, right...]

And he will stay for a bit! Or at least visit all the time. He can't possibly leave them to their own devices, now that they're the only jinba here and such.

To hear that it's all pretty much true is enough to get him to hesitate slightly. It had been a lot of information to take in. A lot of weird information, some of it even uncomfortable. It's not that he doesn't believe her of course, it's just that it's a lot to swallow. And that moonlacing thing... ]

Sitting next to each other? It's as simple as that? That's a relief.

It's really simple- See?

[Just to drive the point home, she falls back until she can sort of bump up along his side, withers to withers... well, height difference aside withers to withers, walking beside him close enough that their flanks stay mostly in contact, generating that distinctive warm, comfortable feel of platonic moonlacing.]

All you have to do is a little to keep from crystallizing... anything else is just... extra? I guess? It does make money, but there's real money we can get from working jobs like normal, so it's not like we have to do that... though it does actually heal people like they say, so that's... nice? If anything bad were to happen...

The animal stuff happens to most people, but some people just change a little. My coat gets kind of doe-y... and one time my hooves split like a deer's too, but that's it for me... and Gonta mostly just gets really territorial...

But the talk of the amount of humans turns her brows inward in a little furrow of worry, despite her current excitement at his arrival. And before he can ask what she's doing, she's bumped against his side slightly and he feels that strange exchange of chroma between them. Definitely new. Definitely not something he's sure he would have understood from explanation alone, so the demo is nice so he knows what to expect.

It is a lot of people though. Without jinba scattered about to even it out, it has been somewhat daunting. But Mikuni is prepared to try and play nice. He's already been playing nice, for the most part. And he hasn't even thought about eating any of them. ]

And sure, she could handle Gonta, even when he does get a little aggressive and starts trying to fight with everyone who even gets near their patch of grove, but...

Konoha shakes her head emphatically at the idea that she didn't have to worry about him.]

I know Mikuni is my senior... but that's back home!

[Putting on her best tough face, she puffs up as big as she can get.]

I've been here the longest, so... I'm the senior jinba! That means you have to rely on me, alright?

[ He agrees, nodding. It's a little suspicious, but if Konoha has really been here as long as she says ... it's possibly alright? Not that Mikuni will just stop being cautious, but it does help. As for that whole "other worlds" thing, he'll need time to absorb that.

As she mentions him being her senior only at home, he blinks a couple of times. Now, he knows she hasn't been here for 20 years and --

ah. ]

... Alright.

[ Like he can even say no to that face. He bows his head humbly. ]

I place myself happily in your care.

Mmm! Good!

[Content with his acceptance of this new seniority system she has just invented, Konoha lets her tough face fade back away in favor of a far more natural look for her- a smile.

After all... Mikuni was here. And even though it was probably not something she should be happy about... They should all be back in their world where they belonged, not on some weird world...

She's still happy to see him. Gonta will be happy to see him. So... it's time for a change of mood. Maybe it's a little childish, but-]

Now... follow me, Mikuni!

[Konoha rears up a bit, clapping her hands together in excitement with a little flail of hooves before she hits the ground running. Well, trotting, for just a few steps to make sure he's following her before she kicks up into a canter deeper into the Groves...

Until they arrive at a farmstead with a name he might find very familiar.]

[ If she's content, then so is he. Seeing her smile is worth it, after all.

Honestly, he probably isn't as bothered as he should be about being here, knowing that Gonta and Konoha will be here with him as well. He can make a home out of anywhere but it's a bonus that they're right there along with him. Although he is a little disappointed that he probably can't continue his search for the others here...

Enough of those thoughts though, since Konoha is just suddenly running off from him. Or trotting off, and then running. ]

Wait, when did I agree to run all the way there?

[ But he follows her along closely anyway, deeper into the Groves, further away from the hugbugs and all the humans, to a place that is so different and very familiar at the same time. Ah... its name... Konoha and Gonta have worked hard for this place haven't they? ]

Konoha...

[ He stares at the sight before them a little longer, before smiling at her. ]

It's wonderful that you've made such a home for you and Gonta.

[Konoha had resigned herself to city living, when she’d first arrived in this place. She’d picked out a place on the ground floor as close to the groves as she could be, spending most of her time out and nursing sore hooves that hadn’t appreciated the sudden switch to hard metal streets and walkways. But she’d known that... she could deal with it. The crowds, the noise, the technology, the magic... eventually she’d settle. Eventually it would be fine.

But it wasn’t the same for Gonta, she knew that. He’d tried, he had, but when he’d voiced his desire to do this... how could she do anything but enthusiastically support it?]

Mmmn, it was Gonta’s idea.

[For the future, the chance they might be stuck here a long time, the children she hoped to have and was beginning to fear may never come.]

The name was his idea, too.

[It was where she was apparently going with him, after all. Mt. Tsurugi.]

t took us a while to get everything ready, to build, and to plant... and I know it’s more like my village than it probably is on the mountains like you two are used to, but...

[But it was world’s better than the neon lights and the bustle of metropolis, the shine of crystals and the constant movement of trains, cars, and feet. So she beams proudly upon it, a little slice of peace and quiet that made sense to her... that looked like home to her.

That felt more like home, now, too. Even though she’d only known Mikuni a few months since Sha had sent him to her yard... he was practically family now.]

[ Mikuni could probably adapt ... in time. But for now he was closer to Gonta's end of things, a bit shell-shocked by all the changes and a little overwhelmed by the crowds upon crowds of people. Coming to the pumpkin patches had been pretty nice, even with the phallic shaped gourds.

Eventually though, he could probably do alright.

Especially if he had a place like this "Tsurugi" to come back to. ]
