Cybernetic dream, something like you've never seen

anytime, anywhere on the moon Iris | top

Everything is darkness except for dim lights sparkling in the distance, a faint gleam that greets you as you start to unfurl from your dormant state. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Throat parched and skin dry and aching, you grope your body in alarm to make sure your possessions are still in place. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers only rewards you with an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

A ⬤ As you traverse the near-barren landscape, you feel something sting your skin. It's small and subtle at first, then you finally catch sight of it: an elegant, crystalline mosquito buzzing around from the corner of your eye. However, a pest is still a pest. After a while, marks near your welts begin to form strange patterns on your skin, mimicking ancient runes. Each rune has with it a particular side-effect that may hinder you on your journey:

✾ The Mark of the Enchanter: Hallucinations, hallucinations galore. Your character will see everything and anything their imagination can conjure and will have difficulty separating reality from fiction.
₪ The Mark of the Destroyer: Limbs start to cease their function, causing you to stumble or try and get around one-handed. Other certain body parts may be affected as well. Look at the bright side: you can stop worrying about jiggle physics and hiding your fear boner.
⍢ The Mark of the Sinner: Your hunger, your thirst, your fatigue and your desire are at an all-time high. Your impulses are rabid and uncontrollable. Maybe you experience only one of those symptoms. Maybe you experience them all. All you know is that you want relief now.

These effects will eventually clear up with a bit of accidental or purposeful physical contact with another person, making you wonder if there was anything wrong with you at all.

B ⬤ Hunger starts to gnaw at you vigorously. Perhaps you consider hunting the moon's creatures to sate your hunger. That's when you see it: a thick, meaty, juicy meal on legs. No, we're not talking about Alex Louis Armstrong. A wild silver-white pegasus runs across the purple landscape, its hair billowing in the wind as its hooves smack loudly against the ground. Try and shoot it, and you may find your efforts curtailed by its legendary rage. Eyes aglow and wings beating up a storm, this pegasus is no dainty horse. Two thousand pounds of pure muscle swoop down and charge at you, all blades and ammunition deflecting off its impenetrable skin. Taming appears impossible; it will buck anyone away and leave a sizable horn- or hoof-shaped hole in them for their efforts. Hunting it, however, should be easier. Relatively.

C ⬤ Or you may decide that you'd like to take a drink in the prismatic waters. A small pond can be found just a few miles away from where you first awoke, but gazing into it reflects what appears to be a window into your own world. You see the faces of loved ones or at least someone very close and familiar to you gathered around your prone body, shaking it frantically as though to try and rouse you, yet your image lies frozen and unresponsive, not even a whisper of life running through you. Did you die in your world? Is this your afterlife? The questions start to pile up along with the gnawing dread that you may never return home again.

▶ Camp Nowhere

Time moves strangely when you're trapped on a moon with no sun to guide you. Hours feel like days, and days feel like weeks. Travelling has rendered you weak and tired. Luckily, a few crystal formations in the shape of a cavern may offer you a small place refuge as you decide to nap. You notice a few artifacts left over from previous explorers.

D ⬤ A comm unit abandoned within the cavern will display the former owner's idol obsession. As you tap the buttons indiscriminately, a holographic screen will appear, and you will see a fabulous recorded concert featuring three bubbly young ladies in animal print, singing to you about something called Cordis, a cat, and a bag of gems. Does this make any sense to you? Probably not, but the beat is catchy. You may even find yourself tapping a foot along to it. Don’t worry. We know it’s plastic love.

E ⬤ There's a small cooler-like container of preserved powdered food bags labeled with only the word “Edible” that can be safely consumed. Although the powder tastes as bland as you’d expect, it’s oddly filling, sating either hunger or thirst. But who will be the first — and the bravest — to try eating them?

F ⬤ A strange, pointed instrument is among the effects found in the cavern. It's silver, long, and thin with a curved end and a light. When you grip it with warm hands, it seems to vibrate enthusiastically and comes in three settings indicated by a frowny face, a neutral face, and a happy face. What could it mean exactly? No one knows, but you can fiddle with it to your heart's desire. Just don't ask yourself where it's been before. You don't want to know.

▶ Interstellar Action Force Assemble

Over a day has passed when a group of people find you worse for wear. Some are full of uncertainty and fear while some are full of curiosity and excitement. They claim that they are scientists from the planet Prismatica here to investigate the sudden appearances of rainbow crystals in the skies. That means you and the others they’ve located within the area. You are all a surprising find to them, and they are quick to load everyone in their transport vehicles for examination and questioning.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why are the pegasi so ill-tempered? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They do have questions on their own, so it’s only fair to trade. They tell you about their world as they poke and prod you, trying to understand what you are and how you came into their land. If they’re not trembling in fear, some of them may ask you odd and invasive questions in return, such as what the rate at which your body achieves thermoregulation is, how long your refractory period is, and if you would be willing to submit various kinds of body fluids to them. It's up to whether you wish to comply or protest.

G ⬤ If you react violently, you will be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. They came prepared, so have fun with that! In any case, conscious or not, you’ll be brought into one of the transport vehicles. If you choose to peacefully cooperate, you’ll be provided any necessary first aid and a refreshing drink to help you recuperate after the rough time you had for the past few days. Each transport vehicle has a few small rooms to rest in, but due to the limited space, you’ll have to snuggle up with someone else on that bunk bed. Unfortunately, the moonshine fruit the ship is also carrying in its cargo has an extremely sweet smell that’s been permeating through certain areas of the ventilation system… Taking a whiff of it may inebriate you for the rest of the trip.

H ⬤ It’s a bumpy ride as terrain vehicles draw over various crystal formations until you see a large dome-like structure up ahead. Within its confines lies the seat of the Prismatica's government, Prisma. It’s a bureaucratic wet dream: skyscrapers practically touch the upper surface of the dome, windows glimmer with a prismatic sheen as daylight hits them, and small ships can be seen flying to and from its spaceport. The scientists, members of the Lunar Scientia, usher you into their facilities for tests. Arrivals are likely to twitch, tremble, and panic as Lunar Scientia fellows take and broadcast every embarrassing, unfiltered detail about you — height, weight, age, strange odors, estimated frequency of sexual activity —- to one another. These scientists will ask you politely to undress, too, but understand if you don't want to. They're especially fascinated by the readings of pure Chroma inside you, whispering among one another excitedly about the possibility of the new arrivals being a new moon species. What should they call them? Moonborne? Moonblessed?

I ⬤ At long last, the questions and physical examinations are done. They’ve decided to call the arrivals as the Moonblessed. They’ll take you under their care until they understand more about you. You're allowed a very refreshing hot shower and a warm meal for your efforts. Don’t worry, the meal was imported from their planet. “Planet?” you might ask, but you won’t need to wonder for too long. The ships are preparing for their next destination: the nearby planet Prismatica, where you will be dwelling for the time being. You're free to explore the government center until then.

Lunatia, Prismatica | top

It only takes a couple hours for the ships to reach their home planet. The ships drop the characters off at the city of Lunatia, where they will be given their communication devices and a plastic card they can present to certain landlords at any residential district for their subsidized (read: absolutely free) lodging. Officials at Prisma instructed the newcomers to await further instructions from the government, but you have a lot of time to kill before then. Why not explore in the meantime? Learn the ins and outs of the world, get a job, transform under the full moon, and explore the many mysteries of planet Prismatica!

[ Honestly, she'd remark that it's surprising someone as young as him hasn't traveled, but then again- she knows a lot of people who spend most of their lives in the same towns and villages, rarely leaving.

Still, they have to pay, and when Ye Xiu talks about kissing so nonchalantly, her ears flick up in surprise, eyes going wide as her cheeks go red. While she'd be fine kissing a handsome man, it's usually when it's her idea to do it!! She almost mildly panics internally, but- calm down, a kiss isn't so bad! And it's not like she hasn't been angling for some intimacy, but she thought it'd be mostly snuggling!

... Ugh! She breathes out before looking up at Ye Xiu, before shrugging and turning to him. ]

I suppose, but- how much kissing are we going to have to do to pay for this?

[ She also notes that none of the Prismals around them seem bothered by this, and she turns to look back at Ye Xiu with a slight lift of her ears. She might be easygoing about intimacy, but, still...

She sighs, then smiles and tugs him in by the hand, lifting a hand to circle around the back of his neck. ]

You're going to taste like ramen. Good thing that's delicious.

[ She may as well. ]

- and that I don't mind kissing you.

[ There's a mild twinkle of amusement in her eyes, before she pulls his head down to her height without warning, and captures his mouth with hers, gently parting his lips open as she kisses him easily-

As suspected, there is the lingering flavor of ramen there, coupled with an underlying scent of... smoke? But, it doesn't discourage her, her ears flicking as she keeps it gentle for now-

Their chroma is filling up on their device, but it's not enough! She pulls away briefly to glance at it- ]

Hm, going well. Maybe I should tell you how cute you are to make it sweeter?

[ sorry, megumi. ye xiu doesn't really waste time waffling around when it comes to this stuff, even if he doesn't have a whole lot of experience in that department. his entire life revolved around glory and the esports scene surrounding it so what little he knows comes from locker room talk and people boasting about their latest exploits.

still, he laughs easily. there's a certain air about him that seems pretty confident despite his lack of knowledge. new experiences, after all, are always welcome in his book (and he's eager to learn). ]

Sorry about the nicotine —

[ he doesn't get the chance to finish that out loud. megumi captures his mouth easily, leading him in as she takes charge. he thinks this is the time where he has to put his arms around her, resting by her waist and the small of her back. nothing too scandalous, but enough that he can pull her a little closer. he follows her lead, mildly enjoying the taste of ramen and something sweet — and he's blinking slowly when she pulls away, confused. ]

It might work?

[ he has no idea, but don't mind him as he slips a hand to intertwine their fingers together, planting a soft kiss on her forehead soon after. ]

I'll do whatever.

[ She usually doesn't either, but there are times where she does need to be concerned about the other person! Ye Xiu didn't particularly seem like he'd be entirely fine with it, but people were full of surprises-

And she can't complain about the kiss, especially when he pulls her in. She can feel his fingers against her back, and they seem softer than most men she's been with- though when he threads their fingers together and kisses her forehead, her ears lift up in a playful wiggle. ]

Oi, oi... just whatever? Think I deserve just a little more attention than that, Ser Glory. Though you're certainly cute, being so bold with a lady you've just met.

[ She's quick to tease- mostly to hide her shyness, but then, she nuzzles him with her nose against his. He may note that soft purrs are emanating from her now. ]

There's smoke on you too. Normally I'd complain, but-

[ She smiles and brushes her fingers up the back of his neck, lips brushing against the corner of his mouth- ]

Keep being this cute and these folks might end up seeing a bit too much, aye?

[ She smiles, stealing a chaste kiss off his mouth this time, but there's definitely a noticeable fragrance emanating from her. ]

I'll stop if you want me to, though. We don't have to get dessert.

[ Except they're well on their way to affording double the desserts at this point. ]

[nodus]

Did you want me to stop being so bold?

[ ye xiu laughs into her hair, amused over what she just said. if megumi wanted a little more attention, then maybe he shouldn't have worded his statement that way, but that's just how he is as a person — straightforward and honest. he really is willing to go along with the flow; there's not a whole lot out there he wouldn't give a shot, experience be damned.

so he lets her kiss him again and again, reciprocating with small kisses of his own, from the tip of her nose to the side of her lips. the purrs and sweet fragrance are certainly distracting, but it just makes him feel super content in the end — until he gets a chance to look at their chroma count. ]

... Oh, hey. Look at that. [ slowly, he unwraps his arms and pulls away from her. ] We can afford dessert now.

[ and just like that, the moment shared between them is gone, like they didn't just kiss each other a lot in public. that's just him being practical though, not because he's shy or anything. now that they have the money, they don't need to keep going, right?

sorry about him. but he's going to go ahead and pay for the mochi, passing the two flavours that megumi wanted over to her. ]

Here you go. I hope it's worth it.

Didn't hear me say that, did you?

[ She simply plays back, all too used to teasing and flirtation. Even if it doesn't go anywhere, the fun is in just enjoying it for the moment, much like the kisses he's returning and sharing. She can make out his experience from his actions alone, and she doesn't quite mind that he doesn't have her level of it- besides, it's kind of cute, and she has enough affection for them all.

So when he pulls away, her own ears lift up in delight when he points out they can afford dessert. She doesn't particularly mind, either- dessert is always preferable to making out. When the mochi is brought over, her ears wiggle in delight as she grabs hers- ]

We got it!! This has to be the most pleasant way to make money ever!

[ The rose mochi tastes so good, and her tail's just as eager. She might even resemble an excited kitten at this point, and she holds out a side she hasn't bitten into to Ye Xiu to taste. ]

Should have waited to kiss you after having these. It'd sweeten up your mouth a little!

[ She's teasing, but at least they know what to do now if they run short. ]

Don't know many lads who'd keep a straight face after that much affection. Do you even enjoy that sort of thing?

[ She knows some people aren't, so it's a genuine question. ]

I'd have thought someone with a face as pretty as yours would have plenty of folks wanting to kiss. Unless you're more into men, which is also fine!

[nodus]

[ it's a cute moment between the two of them that doesn't last long, but it's one that he'll probably cherish for days to come. megumi is cute, that much he can admit freely to himself, and he finds he didn't really mind how this ended up happening. (there is, of course, a part of him that wonders if it would be this easy with su mucheng too — but he stops himself right there and doesn't think about it anymore.

he nods along while megumi keeps talking, laughing sheepishly at the remark about eating mochi before smooching it up. ]

It probably would have been better, rather than tasting the ramen and smoke. [ but that's okay. ] Maybe next time.

[ when asked if he enjoyed it, he takes a few seconds before he answers. ]

It was nice. [ plain and simple. ] I would do it again. [ and of course, honest. ] But I'm not that popular where I'm from... I've been told my attitude makes me unattractive.

[ he shakes his head. ]

Both men and women alike. They all hate me, haha. But it's fine. I'm used to that.

Hate feels like a strong word there, lad. You've not exactly done anything that would be worth that- well, with me, at least. But I've only known you two hot ticks.

[ She lets him have a bite of her mochi before returning it to eat, her ears wiggling thoughtfully. At least he'd consider it again, which is good enough for her- she wonders if he'd be more enthused about kissing a man, though. Maybe she should experiment and see if the guy is closeted and needs a little nudge...

Well, who knows, really. She doesn't exactly have to worry about it, but seeing as they're in a new place that actually functions on intimacy to earn, well- better they enjoy it than not. ]

You're not dating anyone though, are you? You were sweet to kiss, but I don't think you'd get very far with those pecks alone, aye?

[ She gives him a light smack with her tail as they head through the large area of Caihong. ]

Better than the lover I had before I got married, though. Now that lad was a pure milksop. I don't think he knew you could use tongue!

[nodus]

[ ye xiu can only... laugh. ]

Spend enough time with me and you'd be surprised.

[ not that it matters to him what others think. he is the way he is, hated by so many people, because of how shameless he can be, and just because he's somewhere else isn't going to really change that. but who knows! maybe megumi can figure out his bi awakening switch and introduce him to the wonderful world of boy's love ... i'll stop now. ]

But no, I'm not dating anyone. I'm too busy for that! [ busy trying to get back into the league and win championship matches and the like, of course. ] I don't have much experience in anything else.

[ he continues to nibble on his own mochi as they walk down the busier streets of caihong. there are shopkeepers everywhere trying to catch their attention. try their dimsum! check out the beautiful trinkets! buy one get one free toy of your choice — and when ye xiu looked, it's definitely not the kind that's kid-friendly (oops) — and so much more. ]

... I'm glad I was better though? [ maybe? ] Is this the part where I should walk you home?

Think I can say the same thing about myself. Except I'm actually the cutest and more pleasant person you'll ever meet! Everyone else doesn't know what they're complaining about!

[ She gives a pretend haughty huff, clearly joking, though when he says that, her eyes widen. ]

Lad, don't you know all work and no fun makes the body get sadder?! Sure, you're probably doing something you love, but!

[ She also glances at the stalls, smirking at the offerings, before finishing her mochi and waving a hand. ]

That's it. If we're going to be stuck here, then I'm going to have to look out for you! Get you dates. What type of man's your favorite? The shy, cute type, or the confident, manly type? Just asking to keep all options open.

[ Not at all for selfish reasons, though his question makes her ears flick up. ]

Home, huh? Didn't they say we could decorate our assigned spaces with just these device things? Let's check it out!! Where's your place supposed to be?

[ And so, poor Ye Xiu's going to get dragged there whenever they discover that. She's absolutely determined!! ]

This is a lot more freedom than the place I was in last!

[nodus]

Probably not! You are pretty pleasant, and cute.

[ even if it was a joke, ye xiu speaks without hesitation.

he finishes the rest of his mochi, relishing the taste. it's similar to what he's had back at home even if it was made on a foreign planet. that makes him pretty happy though... ]

It's been a busy year. Actually, ending up here is really bad timing for me... [ sheepish laugh. they literally just secured their spot by winning the challenger's league, and now their team captain is somewhere else. if that isn't the biggest case of oops, he doesn't know what is. ] But it's fine. Maybe I really do need a break.

[ when megumi starts asking questions, specifically about what type of man he likes, he has to look at her with a raised eyebrow. ]

If we're keeping all options open, shouldn't you ask what type of girl I like too?

[ not that he's going to be answering the actual question!! since he's moving on to the next. megumi is practically dragging him already anyway. ]

I don't know. How do we find out where we're staying?

O-Oi, you...

[ Is he just going to boldly declare that without any charm?! It doesn't help the blush creeping up her face, though at him mentioning he needs a break and the bad timing makes her tilt her head curiously. ]

A-Anyroad, it's not like you'll be noticed missing... I hope. When I ended up back home after that dreadful place I was in last, it was as though time hadn't moved at all. I didn't even remember anything until I ended up back here.

[ She looks serious for a moment- though when he makes a comment about options, she grins quickly. ]

Oh, you'll have your pick of the lasses, but when was the last time you thought about having a lad to charm, aye? Anyroad, you can start off slow if you've never considered one. Maybe a lad with a pretty face-

[ She stops, then looks at the new device. ]

And- ah, they said there was some sort of residential space here. Ah, here we go.

[ She pulls up the map on her device this time, which she has on her wrist- ]

It's not too far on the second level, it looks like! Come on, Ser Glory. We're checking your place out first!


[ And off he'll be dragged- until they actually get there after some time of searching, which is when she'll stare in awe once they do. ]

Well these look rather nice. Let's go inside!! I want to see what they look like!!
