Everything is darkness except for dim lights sparkling in the distance, a faint gleam that greets you as you start to unfurl from your dormant state. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Throat parched and skin dry and aching, you grope your body in alarm to make sure your possessions are still in place. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers only rewards you with an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

Time moves strangely when you're trapped on a moon with no sun to guide you. Hours feel like days, and days feel like weeks. Travelling has rendered you weak and tired. Luckily, a few crystal formations in the shape of a cavern may offer you a small place refuge as you decide to nap. You notice a few artifacts left over from previous explorers.

Over a day has passed when a group of people find you worse for wear. Some are full of uncertainty and fear while some are full of curiosity and excitement. They claim that they are scientists from the planet Prismatica here to investigate the sudden appearances of rainbow crystals in the skies. That means you and the others they’ve located within the area. You are all a surprising find to them, and they are quick to load everyone in their transport vehicles for examination and questioning.
You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why are the pegasi so ill-tempered? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They do have questions on their own, so it’s only fair to trade. They tell you about their world as they poke and prod you, trying to understand what you are and how you came into their land. If they’re not trembling in fear, some of them may ask you odd and invasive questions in return, such as what the rate at which your body achieves thermoregulation is, how long your refractory period is, and if you would be willing to submit various kinds of body fluids to them. It's up to whether you wish to comply or protest.

It only takes a couple hours for the ships to reach their home planet. The ships drop the characters off at the city of Lunatia, where they will be given their communication devices and a plastic card they can present to certain landlords at any residential district for their subsidized (read: absolutely free) lodging. Officials at Prisma instructed the newcomers to await further instructions from the government, but you have a lot of time to kill before then. Why not explore in the meantime? Learn the ins and outs of the world, get a job, transform under the full moon, and explore the many mysteries of planet Prismatica!

You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.
A ⬤ As you traverse the near-barren landscape, you feel something sting your skin. It's small and subtle at first, then you finally catch sight of it: an elegant, crystalline mosquito buzzing around from the corner of your eye. However, a pest is still a pest. After a while, marks near your welts begin to form strange patterns on your skin, mimicking ancient runes. Each rune has with it a particular side-effect that may hinder you on your journey:✾ The Mark of the Enchanter: Hallucinations, hallucinations galore. Your character will see everything and anything their imagination can conjure and will have difficulty separating reality from fiction.
₪ The Mark of the Destroyer: Limbs start to cease their function, causing you to stumble or try and get around one-handed. Other certain body parts may be affected as well. Look at the bright side: you can stop worrying about jiggle physics and hiding your fear boner.
⍢ The Mark of the Sinner: Your hunger, your thirst, your fatigue and your desire are at an all-time high. Your impulses are rabid and uncontrollable. Maybe you experience only one of those symptoms. Maybe you experience them all. All you know is that you want relief now.
These effects will eventually clear up with a bit of accidental or purposeful physical contact with another person, making you wonder if there was anything wrong with you at all.
B ⬤ Hunger starts to gnaw at you vigorously. Perhaps you consider hunting the moon's creatures to sate your hunger. That's when you see it: a thick, meaty, juicy meal on legs. No, we're not talking about Alex Louis Armstrong. A wild silver-white pegasus runs across the purple landscape, its hair billowing in the wind as its hooves smack loudly against the ground. Try and shoot it, and you may find your efforts curtailed by its legendary rage. Eyes aglow and wings beating up a storm, this pegasus is no dainty horse. Two thousand pounds of pure muscle swoop down and charge at you, all blades and ammunition deflecting off its impenetrable skin. Taming appears impossible; it will buck anyone away and leave a sizable horn- or hoof-shaped hole in them for their efforts. Hunting it, however, should be easier. Relatively.
C ⬤ Or you may decide that you'd like to take a drink in the prismatic waters. A small pond can be found just a few miles away from where you first awoke, but gazing into it reflects what appears to be a window into your own world. You see the faces of loved ones or at least someone very close and familiar to you gathered around your prone body, shaking it frantically as though to try and rouse you, yet your image lies frozen and unresponsive, not even a whisper of life running through you. Did you die in your world? Is this your afterlife? The questions start to pile up along with the gnawing dread that you may never return home again.

Luckily, a few crystal formations in the shape of a cavern may offer you a small place refuge as you decide to nap. You notice a few artifacts left over from previous explorers.
D ⬤ A comm unit abandoned within the cavern will display the former owner's idol obsession. As you tap the buttons indiscriminately, a holographic screen will appear, and you will see a fabulous recorded concert featuring three bubbly young ladies in animal print, singing to you about something called Cordis, a cat, and a bag of gems. Does this make any sense to you? Probably not, but the beat is catchy. You may even find yourself tapping a foot along to it. Don’t worry. We know it’s plastic love.
E ⬤ There's a small cooler-like container of preserved powdered food bags labeled with only the word “Edible” that can be safely consumed. Although the powder tastes as bland as you’d expect, it’s oddly filling, sating either hunger or thirst. But who will be the first — and the bravest — to try eating them?
F ⬤ A strange, pointed instrument is among the effects found in the cavern. It's silver, long, and thin with a curved end and a light. When you grip it with warm hands, it seems to vibrate enthusiastically and comes in three settings indicated by a frowny face, a neutral face, and a happy face. What could it mean exactly? No one knows, but you can fiddle with it to your heart's desire. Just don't ask yourself where it's been before. You don't want to know.

Over a day has passed when a group of people find you worse for wear. Some are full of uncertainty and fear while some are full of curiosity and excitement. It's up to whether you wish to comply or protest.
G ⬤ If you react violently, you will be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. They came prepared, so have fun with that! In any case, conscious or not, you’ll be brought into one of the transport vehicles. If you choose to peacefully cooperate, you’ll be provided any necessary first aid and a refreshing drink to help you recuperate after the rough time you had for the past few days. Each transport vehicle has a few small rooms to rest in, but due to the limited space, you’ll have to snuggle up with someone else on that bunk bed. Unfortunately, the moonshine fruit the ship is also carrying in its cargo has an extremely sweet smell that’s been permeating through certain areas of the ventilation system… Taking a whiff of it may inebriate you for the rest of the trip.
H ⬤ It’s a bumpy ride as terrain vehicles draw over various crystal formations until you see a large dome-like structure up ahead. Within its confines lies the seat of the Prismatica's government, Prisma. It’s a bureaucratic wet dream: skyscrapers practically touch the upper surface of the dome, windows glimmer with a prismatic sheen as daylight hits them, and small ships can be seen flying to and from its spaceport. The scientists, members of the Lunar Scientia, usher you into their facilities for tests. Arrivals are likely to twitch, tremble, and panic as Lunar Scientia fellows take and broadcast every embarrassing, unfiltered detail about you — height, weight, age, strange odors, estimated frequency of sexual activity —- to one another. These scientists will ask you politely to undress, too, but understand if you don't want to. They're especially fascinated by the readings of pure Chroma inside you, whispering among one another excitedly about the possibility of the new arrivals being a new moon species. What should they call them? Moonborne? Moonblessed?
I ⬤ At long last, the questions and physical examinations are done. They’ve decided to call the arrivals as the Moonblessed. They’ll take you under their care until they understand more about you. You're allowed a very refreshing hot shower and a warm meal for your efforts. Don’t worry, the meal was imported from their planet. “Planet?” you might ask, but you won’t need to wonder for too long. The ships are preparing for their next destination: the nearby planet Prismatica, where you will be dwelling for the time being. You're free to explore the government center until then.

hanzo speaks first, and he turns to look at hanzo. ]
I would. Thank you.
[ well, if he's unsure and hanzo's unsure.. maybe something that he is curious about. it could be safe, but just as dangerous. ]
After you... left Hanamura, where did your travels take you?
no subject
After Hanamura?
[He..figures those things are easy enough to talk about without things getting too heavy.]
It took me some time to leave, but once I did I took jobs all over. I spent time in India, Italy, South Africa, even Mexico for a little while. Some places longer than others, but nowhere long enough to get comfortable. It was just about work at first, but then I took less jobs to stay longer..enjoy myself. Perhaps I enjoyed myself too much.
[Hanzo lets out a bitter laugh, gesturing to the empty bottles around the room.]
no subject
You have gone through quite a bit. We all cope in different ways - though perhaps it is time to seek a different method.
[ it is... more careful than genji might have said in his youth. then again, young genji was just as prone to 'enjoying himself too much'.
still, after that choice comment. ]
Did you see how the world has changed since our family visited those places?
no subject
I did. It is as you said. The world is preparing for war. Again.
[Some places more overtly than others, but the tone is unmistakable. It's not a good direction to head it by any means, but it did provide plenty of job opportunities. Which also may not have been such a good choice, but you can take the assassin out of the clan but you cannot unlearn those things. It isn't as though he has very many qualifications for much else.]
There are so many who need or deserve protection. Some from their own governments. I worry for them, but that is the way it is, and how it has always been. I am unsure of how I could make any difference.
[Unless Genji was suggesting before that he join up with Overwatch--yes he did some research after their first reunion. But no--he's pretty sure he doesn't fit the image of do-gooder like the public information about them suggested. At any rate, they were shut down some time ago if he remembers correctly.]
me: head in hands using this anecdote
but while his own goal was to try with overwatch again, maybe, for hanzo that was a longer ideal.
instead, he shakes his head. ]
Surely you have heard the story of the boy who puts back starfish on a beach full of them. He cannot hope to save them all, but he makes a difference to that which he does save.
[ he folds his arms. ]
Even if you help one person, it makes a difference. If you have spoken with Master Zenyatta, he would tell you much the same.
btw i will be slow until later next week
That is.. [He wants to say naive, but stops himself.] very like you.
[He knows better than anyone that when Genji puts his mind to something he can be just as stubborn as he was. The problem was that those things tended to be parties and arcade games when they were younger.]
Yes. It does seem like a notion he might have. He seems the type to look for good where there is none to find. [And as soon as the water is boiled he pours it over the teabags to brew, setting each on the table.]
no worries!
[ genji's tone is deliberately light when he asks that, a rhetorical question. he remembers using such reasons to shirk his supposed duties in his youth. but times have changed now.
every action, no matter how small, has a chance of rippling out and affecting others. such as this chance meeting. but he keeps that to himself.
he thanks hanzo as he sets the tea down, folding his arms. ]
He is a monk. Searching out the good in the world is part of who he is.
[ he's peering at hanzo, though it's easier to disguise - just the slightest tilt of his helmet. he hears how hanzo considers no good left in himself - or to genji's perspective, implies it - and files it away for further discussion. ]
btw are you gonna app (no pressure! just curious)
Which I understand, and admire. [He responds quickly and perhaps a bit more defensively than he should.] But finding the good in people who lack any redeeming qualities seems futile and pointless.
[It's probably obvious at this point what he's talking about so Hanzo doesn't do much to hide that Zenyatta has been worming his way into the archer's tough exterior to help him heal. But just like his father he's painfully stubborn and difficult to get close to. The omnic manages to keep trying though.]
Anyway. He will be pleased to see you.
i am! i'm finishing up my app tonight and submitting~
he wraps his fingers around the cup, feeling (and sensing) the warmth. ]
I imagine so, even if he will surely be exasperated as well.
[ there's a smile in his tone, but after a moment he reaches up for his faceplate. if he's gonna drink tea he needs to take this off - although his movements are slow, allowing hanzo time to look away or stop him if he wants. ]
i vote we keep this thread, then *-*
He certainly has his work cut out for him. Unless you can convince him to give up on a lost cause.
[He allows himself to laugh at that, settling back in his chair comfortably until Genji begins to take off his faceplate. Hanzo remembers seeing his eyes before, but other than that he's not sure of the state of his brother's face. He forces himself to look down at his tea, but his eyes eventually venture upward to take in the scarred skin. Hanzo winces and his eyes fall back to his tea again. He's not entirely sure how he can ever look his brother in the eyes again.
Not without all the guilt and self-loathing that comes with seeing the consequences of his actions so plainly.]
the drunk embarrassment and the pain
he takes off the faceplate once hanzo looks down and sets it aside, lifting the tea to take a sip and close his eyes. in part it's to savor it; in part it's because he's sure there's to be a furtive look or two, and he doesn't know if he himself can handle what reaction he sees, now that they are outside of the heat of battle.
the silence is damning enough. ]
... They do not hurt.
[ it's abrupt in the quiet that's fallen over them, but it seems like something he should assure hanzo, opening his eyes to watch his brother through the steam of the tea.
the scars on his face are indeed older, striking still. they cut through the light fuzz on his cheeks and jaw that he's allowed to grow. ]
just wait until you join the cast discord.
Anymore.
[When he sees Genji he sees their childhood, their adventures, the stories their father would tell them. The problem is he also sees his failures as a brother--as a man. It's all bittersweet, but allowing him to feel the good bits leaves him susceptible to the other side of it as well.]
Is it finally my turn to be the more handsome brother?
[He tries to joke but then in the midst of his laughter ends up letting tears fall.]
CHINHANDS
it is hard to see hanzo like this - lost. it was harder to see him as an enemy in his youth, to face him down. perhaps he hadn't truly taken it seriously, even then, until after the damage was done.
he sees those tears, the question that's posed to him, and it makes him chuckle, wetness in his own eyes. ]
I do not think so. Have you not heard of the proverb that "chicks dig scars"?
[ he almost gets through it only laughing, raising a hand to wipe at his eyes. he wants to go, to offer comfort, but he's not sure how it will be received and so... he holds back. ]
i'm not crying you're crying
Clearly. You have hardly been here for long and already you manage to be surrounded by them.
[In his youth he never quite felt jealous in the way others might think. He's discovered in his adulthood that he has more a preference for men than women, but in general doesn't date either as a rule.]
I suppose you can continue to to charm then. Maybe when we get old and gray I can take that title.
[Hanzo lets himself sniffle, trying to hide the sound by clearing his throat immediately after.]
no... the shimada tears are too strong
[ is he poking fun at his strobe lights? he's poking fun at his strobe lights.
he teased hanzo for his 'jealousy' but only as an adult does he truly realize what hanzo was envious of - his ability to do what he wanted and shirk his duties with no repercussions. to truly learn himself (or so he claimed; he sank himself into the bright lights of games, of male and female bodies and flowing alcohol).
they do not comment on the tears. they will not speak of it but some tension eases within genji. ]
Oh? You think your greying hair will bring everyone to your door?
no subject
At least now you do not have to summon your dragon to impress people. You have the bright lights built in.
[Hanzo wasn't able to spend much time enjoying himself at all, but the times he was gave insight on Genji's strategy of flirtation. His own hadn't come to him until later out of necessity. Most of the time for work rather than pleasure.]
That or my warm welcoming personality. [He scoffs, drying his eyes again before draining his tea. He's got jokes.]
no subject
[ he gives a little chuckle at that, lifting the tea to take another sip. he knew plenty of people who had been aflutter at hanzo in their youth, although hanzo had never seemed to have the time for it the way genji did.
genji, too, has no doubt were the roles reversed that hanzo would have been the one taking a fall.
he circles back to the mention of dragons, however. ]
Speaking of dragons, did they do to yours what they did to mine?
[ ramen is the size of a chihuahua when he summons her, and she's not happy about it. ]
no subject
[Real meaningful relationships are not something he thinks he can do well with. Even thinking the word boyfriend as a title for him feels ridiculous.]
I have yet to try summoning them. I am afraid the chroma cost is too high, and replenishing it would require physical contact, and that is a hassle.
[So the pair are on the restless side which doesn't help Hanzo's mood and disposition at all. Sometimes he feels like he consumes chroma for three rather than just himself, but it's not like he's ever tried to compare with anyone else.]
What did they do to her?
no subject
with a little growl, a small glowing green creature pops up from behind his shoulder. it is indeed his dragon - but she's quite small compared to her normal size, roughly the size of a small dog.
her whiskers twitch, and she all but growls at hanzo, even as genji raises a hand to rub behind her head. ]
They shrunk her.
i'm totally stalling to decide on dragon names lol
She looks like a large rodent.
[He laughs, shaking his head but leans down to have a better look. The growling only gets louder when Hanzo tries to get close.]
whispers udon and soba. but somehow i feel even tiny hanzo would pick regal names
[ ramen doesn't appreciate that comparison, either, and she snaps her teeth at genji to express her displeasure. hanzo getting closer does indeed have her growling ramping up. she hasn't forgotten what happened to them, or what her siblings did either.
genji reaches up to gently curl his fingers under her chin, focusing on speaking to her in low japanese to soothe her. the growling subsides. if hanzo dares, she might accept a touch from him. ]
ngl i was def going with regal. nobunaga and masamune is where i'm at.
Hanzo does get up to move closer, but rather than trying to touch the dragon (who he's sure will attack him), he touches Genji's shoulder to show he's not there to harm anyone.]
Should I bring out the boys, or do you think they might frighten her?
oh no that's so cute.. and genji shortens it to bun and mun to annoy hanzo.
ramen knows that genji has forgiven his brother in order to move on. but he gets that grudge-keeping from somewhere.
genji hums a little, reaching down to stroke his fingers over her scales. ]
She may be small, but she still has all her power... I think it would be good for them to see each other again.
[ she tilts her head a little, looking up at hanzo - but she seems far less pissed and more curious at the talk of her brothers. ]
how dare you!
That is good to hear. Hopefully Nobu and Masa are not rodent sized.
[Hanzo isn't so convinced it's a good idea to test the theory that their dragons can get along, but he does summon the two so that he will either be proved right or wrong.
When the blue energy fades from his skin the two dragons he lets down onto the ground are much smaller than he's used to, but still bigger than Ramen. About the size of goats. Very long scaled goats. They wind around each other excitedly before approaching Ramen cautiously.]
I should move into a bigger apartment. This one is..not quite what I am used to.
hanzo: nobu and masa. genji: bun and mun.
[ genji's tone is teasing, but he keeps a hand on ramen's back, feeling her vibrate as she waits for hanzo to summon her siblings. nobunaga and masamune are a familiar sight that makes both of their hearts ache for a simpler time.
but ramen has some things to sort out. she approaches them as well, whiskers twitching. she doesn't growl, but she does narrow her eyes and arch up her back, seeming to ask well, what do you two have to say for yourselves?
genji looks around at the apartment. ]
It does seem quite small. You must hardly have the space to do your morning exercises.
