QUESTIONS MEME

THE QUESTIONS MEME
A first big 'n successful round of apps has concluded and the game is getting off to a roll - since there are always brains to be picked and new pals and acquaintances to be made, how's about we all play a little getting-to-know-you game?
HOW TO PLAY:
• Leave a comment below with your name and the characters who you play.
• Respond to others' comments with questions - they can be about their characters, their current in-game plans or things they'd like to play, their CR, RP in general, their canons and fandoms, or most anything else.
• Answer questions you've received! Keep it short or TL;DR to your heart's content, depending on how much you have or are in the mood to say!
• After each answer you give, ask a question back to the person who answered you. Keep the thread of questioning up for as long as both parties are game!
• Go for it - make friends, make new plans, make anything you like!

Temple is also from a comedy that eventually punches you right in the heart, and I reckon that’s part of why he and Taako have such a good dynamic.

I watch a lot of comedy standup like John Mulaney, Ali Wong, Gabriel Iglesias, etc. Also shows like The Good Place and Brooklyn 99.
What drew you to playing Temple?

Well, a lot of things, tbh. As a RPer, I tend to be very faithful to one or two characters, who tend also to be my absolute faves for everything else, fandom-wise. And Temple’s my absolute fave character at the moment.
(And I get the feeling that my style of character playing is not typical for DWRPers.)
So, to me, it feels entirely natural that I chose to play Temple.
But, as to why, well... I basically found that I adored him as soon as he was introduced on the show. At first, it was because Church was dead and not coming back and he was the closest thing to Church around but as I got to know him, I found that I started to appreciate him for himself.
Because Temple is basically exactly the kind of character I love.
He’s a villain with a tragic backstory, one who was used by other people to serve their own ends and struck back against those people.
He’s loyal to the people he cares about, and clingy/codependent as well towards the ones he cares the most about. And very passionate about the things he cares about.
He’s someone who was told he couldn’t measure up to other people’s standards, and got treated badly because of it. And he takes some defiant pride in his status as sim trooper but is also insecure about it.
And he’s intelligent and prefers using brains over using brawn.
There are definitely more things I could list but these are the ones that come to mind immediately.

And you’re welcome!
What drew you to Taako, if you don’t mind telling me that?
He is wonderful and I love how you play him, and now that you asked me that question about Temple, I want to ask you the same one about Taako.
I’ve listened to some TAZ but because I’m not much of an audio-oriented person, I ended up dropping it, even though I was enjoying it. Like, TAZ is basically something I’d love if it was a book - which is why I bought the graphic novel - or a show but is very inaccessible to me in its actual format.

I think, if I were to go back and change characters though? I'd probably go with Magnus. He's a giant dumb dork and rushes into things, but that change of pace - from Taako's cautious cunning to Magnus' always-do-good attitude - might be refreshing.
If you didn't play Temple, what character are you drawn to next?
no subject
I haven’t gotten to the angst in TAZ yet but I have heard vague things about it, and I can definitely see how Taako would become more compelling once the story gets more dramatic and his backstory gets revealed.
If I didn’t play Temple, I would probably be playing Norm the Genie from Fairly OddParents. He combines Temple’s villain with a tragic backstory (though Norm’s backstory isn’t treated as tragic by the show. Like, it objectively is tragic but FOP doesn’t care about that.) and Temple’s character-used-by-others, which he strikes back against, with the trickster quality that Taako has. And Norm has been my fave ever since I first joined fandom, back in 2009.
And if I was to have a muselist the size of a normal DWRPer’s, I would likely add:
- Alpha and/or Epsilon Church from Red vs. Blue
- Biff from Red vs. Blue, if I’m not the only person with a Temple
- Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown
- Pearl from Steven Universe
- maybe Greed from FMA:B, if I still feel like it once I actually finish the series
- a character with lots of canonmates/castmates available in DWRP because I see everyone with all their canonmates/castmates and get real jealous sometimes, lol

Also I've spent most of my DWRP time as a LCW and it isn't so bad. That's when you get to expand on your character, learning about their IC interactions and how they adjust to new and challenging scenarios. I think that's the greatest challenge for RPers - staying IC while brunting up against these unexpected situations and people.

I do like being a LCW quite a lot. But when I see stuff like the enormous numbers of Fate/ and Kingdom Hearts and Granblue Fantasy characters, and how easy it is for them to interact with each other and connect with each other, especially on DWRP memes, it does make me feel kinda lonely. It’s hard to explain but yeah...
