QUESTIONS MEME

THE QUESTIONS MEME

A first big 'n successful round of apps has concluded and the game is getting off to a roll - since there are always brains to be picked and new pals and acquaintances to be made, how's about we all play a little getting-to-know-you game?

HOW TO PLAY:
• Leave a comment below with your name and the characters who you play.
• Respond to others' comments with questions - they can be about their characters, their current in-game plans or things they'd like to play, their CR, RP in general, their canons and fandoms, or most anything else.
• Answer questions you've received! Keep it short or TL;DR to your heart's content, depending on how much you have or are in the mood to say!
• After each answer you give, ask a question back to the person who answered you. Keep the thread of questioning up for as long as both parties are game!
• Go for it - make friends, make new plans, make anything you like!

I am curious if you've played him anywhere before.

So far? There was a short-lived run in Spellbind, and I've been playing him for about a year in Melodies of Eternity.

So is Esme's history a campaign synopsis?

That's cool. I've only seen a Red in one other place and that was long ago. But he's a fun type to bounce off of so I was excited to poke him.
mech_and_mutt: (Well um...)

I think I have actually been mistaken for that other roleplayer once or twice. Apparently my muselist has a few other commonalities with theirs, which- I'm told- has screwed with a couple peoples' heads. Then again, this is a muse from a comparatively obscure title so maybe the confusion's understandable.

Huh. The guy I knew only played red, I think. But you do have a point.

What is it like to play a furry character in games where most of the other characters are humanoid?
mech_and_mutt: (Well um...)

[personal profile] mech_and_mutt 2019-03-28 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh boy.

In the other games I've played him in, it's not a big deal at all; Red may come from a post-human world but he's at least somewhat familiar with humans in looks and concept, and while there's always the inevitable gawking-at-the-walking-talking-dog from the other characters in the game, he's usually not even the strangest character in the room, all things considered. OOCly, he's a protagonist from an obscure DS game; nothing to see here.

In a more adult-content-oriented game like Prismatica, however... it's actually a little bit nerve-wracking. I know full well that more overt interspecies stuff (Or this level of 'furriness' by any other name) isn't something everyone enjoys, so there's an extra layer of doubt to push through whenever I tag out. I don't want people to think I'm constantly pushing a kink, you know?

Even so! I love playing off of the fact that Red is so different from everyone else, and how it plays into how other people perceive him and the sort of relationships he makes with people. Plus, his canine nature often makes for particularly amusing scenes and interactions- I'm never above cracking jokes at its expense.

Goodness, though, I haven't seen RvB since back when they were still in Halo 1's Blood Gulch- I want to say second season or so. The tone was completely different by the time Temple came around, right?

As long as you respect me if I overtly say no to stuff, I can assure that you that I won’t think you’re pushing on anything on me if I’m tagged by you so don’t worry about that with me.

Though furry is not really my kink, I don’t have any strong feelings about it in the other direction either, and I understand that people do play characters like this because they like their characterization, not necessarily for that one kink.

And yeah, the tone was pretty different. Not completely - there still was humour - but there was more drama and the offensive humour was pretty much all gone by then.

That's what I try to assume; I can admit a lot of it is just my own overly-developed sense of caution. And I share that same mindset on characterization being the main reason; my characters for a long time were sober and contemplative sorts (Ramza Beoulve from Final Fantasy Tactics being a good example) so I started playing Red just because he's headstrong, stubborn, and doesn't think so hard about everything.

How about playing a character that's an antagonist in their canon? You ever run into any sort of difficulties (presumptions, metagaming, etc.) there?

I definitely do run into difficulties - but only with canonmates, I’ve noticed.

For example, someone was worried that Temple would try to kill their character, in an unfamiliar environment, as soon as he saw that character because that character happened to be a Freelancer and Temple hates Freelancers. Even though Temple is much smarter than that, and I really don’t want to play out Temple murdering anyone’s character.

And just, in general, I get the feeling that my canonmates tend not to be interested in RPing with my character. Like, some of them were but a lot of them seem not to be. And like, it’s fine, and I do prefer it to presumptions and metagaming buuut... it does feel like most of my canonmates don’t want him as a canonmate.

So yeah, I have ended up preferring crosscanon simply because, most of the time, when stuff with canonmates happens, a whole ton of issues I don’t feel like doing with gets crated in and people start making tons of assumptions about how I will play my character.

OH MY DOG

IS IT RED

IS RED THE GOOD BOY

(So this is Link to the Past Zelda, eh? What prompted the decision to choose that incarnation?)
