"Interesting," he murmurs, studying the piece of technology. "I had one on me when I arrived too. It's a Starfleet tricorder, though. Mid 23rd century. Anyway, they should be useful to gather some data about this planet, even if it might take some interpretation to know what that data might mean."

He tries to turn on the device, though he's never seen anything like it, so it's mostly him just fumbling with it.
