asking for opinions on canonpoints and forms and icons, mostly

ENABLE ME

Character: Greed
Canon: Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (SPOILERS AHEAD)

The only Homunculi to refuse to go along with Father’s plans for them. He, being the personification of Father’s greed, wants pretty much everything, and is possessive over what he has. And he is loyal to and protective of his people, though he frames it as just part of his possessiveness and greed.

He has two possible forms, with different sets of canonpoints:

- Greed 1.0, in which he is the only person in his body and he is leading a group of Chimeras

- Greeling/Greed 2.0, in which he is sharing his body with another character, Ling. In this form, he starts out without his memory and as one of Father’s pawns, and then becomes an ally of the protagonists when he regains his memory.

So I want opinions on what form and set of canonpoints it would be best to take him from so I can decide what icons to give my Greed account: [personal profile] nosuchthingasnosuchthing. I’m currently on s5e1 and once I’m finished the series, it might be obvious what canonpoint I want to take him from but in the meantime, I’m going to see if you guys have any thoughts on this.

Especially on whether his Greeling/Greed 2.0 form and canonpoints are likely to cause trouble for potential Ling appers.

We already talked about this via plurk, but I just wanted to pop in here to say hi again and put in a couple thoughts since I"ve had time to think about it.

I am personally more partial to Greed 2.0 because of the way he develops from Ling's influence, but again, the whole problem with possible Lings wanting to app. Avoiding spoilers, he has some amazing moments at the very end of the series, so I recommend finishing the series before you make a decision.

Those are some good thoughts! :D

And now that I’ve watched the series, I’ve found that it is still hard for me to decide.

An interesting thing about the characters I play is that they are usually villains with redemption arc potential who don’t get one in canon, and when I play them, I’m usually continuing things on as though they are having that potential redemption arc in the new setting or whatever.

And the funny thing about the end of Greed 1.0 is that it made me think, “oh, this is the usual thing where my villain faves don’t get much screentime and don’t fulfill their full potential, isn’t it?”

So I was really surprised when to find out that Greed came back and got that arc ‘cause, like... that usually doesn’t happen with the villains I imprint on.

And that leaves me with the realization that post-redemption arc type things are something I’ve never really explored. (I mean, I almost got there with Norm the Genie from Fairly OddParents in one RP and then I found that I didn’t know what to do next and the RP stalled for other reasons.)

And I’m not sure whether this means I should stick to what I’m familiar with, or try taking the “what happens after” step. Both of them are interesting and both of them are possible (and Greed definitely has more character depth to guide me for the post-arc type thing than most of my villain faves do), and thus, I’m not sure what route to take.

But I’ve decided what Moonblessing I want for him already: Sanguis ‘cause I think it would make him more himself in a way (specifically, some of the personality attributes and the seeking sex for pleasure one) and I think, for him, that putting a multiplier on parts of his personality while simultaneously changing his body would be interesting.

And it is the easiest one to picture him with. Greed is Big Sanguis Energy.

First of all, HUZZAH FOR FINISHING BROTHERHOOD!!

As for deciding which canon-point to take Greed from, I guess it depends on how much you want to stay in familiar territory versus how much you'd like to try out a post-redemption route. You could also take him from somewhere in the middle of that redemption arc and see how the CR he develops in game either helps him continue on that path or redirects him, though maybe mentioning this isn't helping you decide? (I'm sorry if I made it worse!!!)

Greed 1.0 might give you more room for your own interpretation of the character since we're not really with him for very long and when we are, a lot of that is his fights between Ed and Bradley. Greed 2.0 might give you more to work with when coming up with ideas for how he'd react to something.

Those are also some excellent points.

With Greed 1.0, I find it fascinating how, when we see him, he’s already reached the point at which he is free of the other Homunculi and has his people, without any flashbacks to show how he got there. Like, that’s a whole big thing that canon doesn’t explore that much and that is really interesting to wonder about - what was the moment when he decided, “fuck this, I’m not following Father anymore” for the first time? What got him there? - because of how huge a choice it was.

And even though we see Greed 2.0 make the same choice, it is different when he makes it because Ling is involved that time and because he had made it before. So, like, even though it does tell us something about what the first choice was like, it is different enough to still leave me with lots of questions about the first one.

I don’t know what this tells me about which one I’m going to play here (other than that I’m not sure if I know FMA:B canon well enough to imagine how exactly the first choice went) but the choice and the fact that he made it is really fascinating to me.

Damn, so much indecision.

I think I might have to try out two Greeds on the TDM or wait for the mods’ response to my question to figure this out.

Because I have a lot of thoughts in my brain right now.

I'd love to see Greedling/Greed 2.0 as well! I'm actually just popping in to note that the mods could be consulted about it on the FAQ since they do allow multiple versions. Maybe the answer would be to allow Greed in and grant him a body that resembles whichever form he'd prefer- Greed 1.0 or Ling/G2.0. Or maybe they'll propose something entirely different!

JUST TO MAKE THE CHOICE HARDER I GUESS.
