which of jotaro's hats is the best

I'm personally of the opinion that 3taro is the superior Jotaro in pretty much every way, so by extension his hat is objectively the best hat. Also it's the only hat that's actually a stealth nod to a Genuine Plot Detail (the hand pin suggesting what his Stand power is revealed to be), so that also gives it an edge over the other midlife crises he wears on his head.

Also maybe this is a weird question but blame canonblindness and the osmosis - I somehow have the sense that there are three Atsushis in the game? And they are somehow different? How does that work, my dude, please help me lay this burning question to rest.

four technically, but okay, here we go:

so there was this guy irl named nakajima atsushi who wrote some stuff, right

then there was this manga named bungou stray dogs which had characters named after famous historical authors, but they weren't actually supposed to be those authors, they just had references. like if you had an anime where a guy named george washington was captain of a ship in the potomac star system or something like that. references, not the same dude. so that atsushi is scarsnstripes.

then the guy who wrote the manga wrote a short novel with a canon AU of 'well what if atsushi was with the mafia and this other guy was a detective instead'. this is called BEAST and it wrecked all our hearts, and the mafia atsushi is moonlightalter.

MEANWHILE a completely separate company made a completely seperate webgame/mobage called bungou to alchemist, which is basically touken ranbu but with authorboys instead of swordboys. same company and everything. the characters in that are supposed to be the actual authors or at least their ghosts. this is the atsushi I play! this atsushi also has a split personality: 'outer' atsushi is the mildmannered one with glasses who's in control most of the time and 'inner' atsushi is the edgelord who comes out for combat.

question: did any of that make sense.

question: is there a plot reason he has a split personality or is it just rule of cool

this is fair. i also play diavolo so this is not the most complicated thing i have ever had to explain.

there actually is a plot reason! the authors are canonically affected by their works and how their works are viewed in their summoning - so like, the children's literature authors are kids now, lovecraft has an eldritch terror in a jar, etc. a lot of atsushi's works had to do with duality and dual natures of some kind - his most famous work is about a man who turns into a tiger, it's a big Thing

so, split personality. it's also rule of cool tbh but there is a reason.

what are your favorite jojos parts besides 3 and 4

Honestly 4 isn't even...I mean okay I guess it's top three. But my personal Jojos ranking order is:

Stardust Crusaders -> Battle Tendency -> DIU -> Vento and Phantom Blood are tied for 4th -> Stone Ocean.

And then the prospect of reading Steel Ball Run or Jojolion never really grabbed me so I just stick with the sinister six.


Do you draw on a lot of real-life information about the authors when you play Atsushi, then, or is the canon mostly self-contained?

i have done so much googling and bought like five biographies of various dead authors for being in this fandom, you don't even know. like, it's mmmmostly self-contained, but knowing historical facts does help? especially for things that the game doesn't actually outright say (kobayashi takiji was tortured to death and this is only alluded to in-game because everyone playing this is Japanese and knows that already, right)

and for things like, 'hey did my character have any kids, what was his wife's name, etc.' those are definitely things you'd have to look up on your own time

Okay, well, the fact that the question specifies "next month" saves me because high on the list is Lenore from Castlevania S3 but S3 characters aren't appable until May, I believe.

If Jotaro could bring anyone from home here, who would it be? Excluding Kakyoin.

WOW WHAT DO YOU MEAN "EXCLUDING KAKYOIN"

All things considered, I think he would choose Polnareff, for a couple of reasons:

1) He can't choose Kakyoin because the question says he can't
2) He can't choose his mom, however much he wants to see her, because he's not condemning his mom to Horny Space Banging Planet
3) Jiji needs to stop banging people who AREN'T HIS GRANDMOTHER so he is no longer invited to Horny Space Banging Planet

And then the genuine answer, which is:

4) Because when he had stopped his heart and Dio was about to kill him, Polnareff came out of nowhere and tried to save (or avenge - he didn't know whether Jotaro was dead or not, at that point, and all indications probably pointed toward dead) him anyway. Polnareff, in that moment, had every reason to think that every single other Crusader was dead, and Dio hadn't seen him yet, but his reaction was still to throw himself bodily at the guy and try to finish their crusade anyway, even though he was to all appearances the last man standing and it was probably hopeless and the smart thing to do would've been to run and save himself.

And he almost succeeded.

And he's never really talked about that much because the opportunity has never really arisen, but Jotaro hasn't forgotten that during a fight when he was pretty much by definition isolated from any possibility of help from any avenue, left alone to try to kill this psychopath all by himself - Polnareff came out of nowhere and tried to save him.

has jotaro taken to more "modern" clothing

HE DOES NOT WEAR SKINNY JEANS but he does have a fairly good-sized wardrobe that he wears around a lot that isn't just his school uniform. Partly because he's a Sanguis dragon who gets laid regularly so he's got $$$ now.

He tends to wear a lot of band T-shirts, sweatshirts, and jeans, and in fact he's constantly cycling through his shirts because SOMEONE Alucard keeps perma-borrowing his clothes. He thinks it's cute though so it's not like he tries that hard to prevent the thefts from occurring.

So yeah, he's updated his wardrobe a little bit, but his overall style hasn't really changed, he's very much a Young Adult Guy wearing Guy Clothes.

tbh Jill had a Border Collie mix in Emp and I would def have her get one again 100% but even like seven-ish? months into being here she's too cautious to just get a pet... but eventually... then they can have doggie playdates
