THE QUESTIONS MEME

HOW TO PLAY:
• Leave a comment below with your name and the characters who you play.
• Respond to others' comments with questions - they can be about their characters, their current in-game plans or things they'd like to play, their CR, RP in general, their canons and fandoms, or most anything else.
• Answer questions you've received! Keep it short or TL;DR to your heart's content, depending on how much you have or are in the mood to say!
• After each answer you give, ask a question back to the person who answered you. Keep the thread of questioning up for as long as both parties are game!
• Go for it - make friends, make new plans, make anything you like!

I am familiar with them, but I've never really played them. I know Persona has aspects of it, but I doubt it really counts? Actually, I think the true actually closest I've gotten are the Ace Attorney and/or Professor Layton series but they're more puzzle/adventure than actual VN. I did watch half of season 1 of Steins;Gate and I do plan on finishing it and perhaps getting into the VN since I really have done nothing with my Vita aside from playing P4: Golden on it lol and the series was super interesting and sci-fi is so my jam.

I just kind of don't know where to start except Steins;Gate? It depends on the storyline and such and I've never really looked into it, DMMd is something I did look into and while the story does seem interesting, the problematic stuff would probably kill the mood too much for me oops.

Do you like any RPGs/JRPGS? If so, which ones and why?

zunge: (on this occasion it's not true)

Steins;Gate is one of my favorite anime of all time, and it is a stupendous adaptation of the VN. I forgot to list that one but partly bc I'm still only partway through the S;G VN. If you're into time travel/looping and the psychological ramifications it has on the main cast then definitely finish it. Also the music is kick ass and same with the voice acting. No worries, DMMd is definitely not for everyone so it's a-okay to just enjoy it through RPing off the characters outside of their storyline. xD VNs in general are very much "you need to be into the subject matter to enjoy" so in your case you'd want to stick with the themes and genres that appeal. Like Ozmafia!! would be great for anyone into Western fairy tale stuff, Hustle Cat is a dating sim at a cat cafe where everyone is cursed to be cats outside the cafe, Steins;Gate is the epitome of sci-fi time travel, anything released by Key is generally emotionally rich and bound to make you cry, etc.

Yes I like some RPGs and JRPGs. It's all old as heck stuff, though. We're talking... Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VII, Breath of Fire 1-2, Lufia: The Legend Returns, the Golden Sun franchise, and the Dragon Quest franchise. I did most of my RPG vidya playing on handheld consoles like the GBA and Nintendo DS, and the original Playstation. And I haven't had a TV in years, so if I want to play anything it's either got to be on Steam or compatible for GBA/DS. One of these days I will get back to playing RPGs. I just don't know when. xD The reasons I like these are that I grew up with them, I love the music and story, and I can actually do reasonably well with the battle engine. I'm one of those who prefer either active time battle or turn-based, as I genuinely suck at any other fighting systems. Top favorites would be Lufia: The Legend Returns, Golden Sun: The Lost Age and Dragon Quest IV.

Oh right and one other RPG. Kingdom of Loathing. I stopped playing it years ago but I used to be obsessed with this silly browser-based MMORPG that uses stick figure artwork and is nothing but constant parody of everything, chock full of jokes and cultural references, etc.

What other RPGs/JRPGs are you into and why?

I will definitely have to check those out!!

Final Fantasy X was the first FF I played so of course those are the ones I'm most into, although I haven't finished a lot of them. I was into Kingdom Hearts but I feel like KH3 did me dirty so I'm out of that fandom and franchise. I'm honestly not into too many mostly because I got into this stuff around Senior year of high school so by then, college was about to hit, got my first part time job, so I didn't always have time. My roomies got me into the Ace Attorney series, I checked out Professor Layton on my own (I love both series, they're so fucking charming and the music is on point). I'm currently playing FF14 and the latest expansion Shadowbringers is A Mazing.

I don't play too many western RPGs tbh, not entirely sure why? A lot of them lately are open world and I'm not super into that, otherwise they're in first person and I'm like ehhhh and others... I dunno, just didn't find interest in them. And obviously the main series I'm into now is Persona. I also absolutely adore the incredibly stylish Devil May Cry series (not the reboot though) and I've dabbled into the .hack and Tales series. The gameplay can be whatever; action platformer, turnbased, or active time battles, as long as it's coherent and whatnot, I don't mind.

Will you be dragging anyone else into this game or will Noiz be your one and only?
zunge: (now I know I've got to)

[personal profile] zunge 2020-03-24 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Noiz is going to be my main, but I really want at least one other character for the sake of diversity. There's a lot of cool characters here whom I'd love to play with, but it'd be too difficult for Noiz to click with them due to his personality or theirs. I am currently entertaining Hameln from Ozmafia!! (he's basically the Pied Piper as an exiled mafia don and can control animals and children with his pipe), but I'd need to canon review first and that VN has like 50+ hours of content for a first time playthrough of everything even with skipping read text. I also sometimes think about Avery Grey or Finley from Hustle Cat, and the Psycho-Pass VN Mandatory Happiness is making me want to try out Kunizuka Yayoi. As much as I miss playing some of my old muses, either they are retired for a reason or I just... don't want to have them in the same game as Noiz. About the only two I could consider are maybe Maya Mari from Samurai Flamenco and Dancy Flammarion from Alabaster comicsverse.

Are there are subplots or character arcs with your current lineup that you really want to explore in the game setting?

That's definitely understandable! I feel like this setting gives a lot of freedom for all sorts of characters :3

Well, my initial subplot was working through Yosuke's sexuality and stuff which has now reached its conclusion by now even as he still works on being with guys as well as girls and just... navigating all that (he's still kind of a dumbass about it lmao) and Minato I didn't really have much of a plan for him (I still kind of don't, unfortunately but he's not really someone that needs another subplot right now, I think!) so I think my main thing now is for Makoto! He had a good arc in Season 2 and I think I want to further explore that since I'm not real fond what happened in S3 due to the addition of the movies (granted, idk if anything will change with the Road to the World movie or not as that's still being postponed for now and I think a S4 is happening after that?) so I think I want to work more on what Season 2 had started which was him gaining more independence in himself and not necessarily drifting from Haru but feeling like he can be on his own without needing to be attached at hip to him and such. Makoto being a LCW currently will definitely help in that regard too once he's passed the homesick phase!

Sorry for throwing another question back at you but I am curious what's your goal or subplot, if you have one, for Noiz?

Whenever I put him in a game I always strive casually for two things: having him learn about pain and seeing what it takes for him to successfully break free of some of his distorted worldviews. His route in the VN has a general theme of loneliness and isolation. One reason I like playing him is to see him, an abuse survivor, regain the belief that others are capable of caring about him as a person and not because of what he can offer to others. He's an apathetic idiot running on fumes and spite at his age, and most of the time I take him from a very pivotal point where he could easily either backslide or take giant leaps forward with the right push. The game's setting and events and the people he meets in game are all so different each time I app him somewhere, so in general I like to see how those can push him and make him grow, especially if things go in a new direction I haven't seen in previous games. Prismatica has already surprised me with a few opportunities and choice pieces of CR that I never knew I needed until it happened.

Do you have any common character types, be it for muse to RP or just ones that you consider your favorites?
