[She doesn't.

Why would Yanli ever expect to hear her husband's voice again? He'd died. Most sects undergo rituals to keep their souls at rest in the afterlife. She'd said her farewells to Jin Zixuan as she'd knelt in vigil at his funeral, cradling their infant son in her arms. The happy dream Yanli had been living with the boy she'd loved since childhood had come crashing to a shocking halt, leaving her with the bitter taste of reality and a raw, full realization of just what she'd sacrificed to become Jin Zixuan's bride.

Or how much Yanli had regretted it.

When her new in-laws sought to raise arms against the beloved brother she'd always had such a special bond with, she'd had to make choice. The family she'd married into and started with Jin Zixuan or the tattered family she'd left behind. In the end, it was her love for Wei Wuxian that had won out.

Leaves, once fallen, can never return to their old branches but Jiang Yanli has no regrets about this particular choice.

Still, oblivious to the presence of her dead husband, Yanli starts to chat with the shop keeper with a tired, sad smile on her face. If Zixuan chooses to listen, it's a fairly boring conversation - mostly about the level of sewing skills needed to work in the shop, the weave and durability of the fabric, and how the merchant had achieved such vibrant and beautiful patterns.]
