rediscovering: (face off)
Prince Zuko 🔥 祖寇 ([personal profile] rediscovering) wrote in [community profile] prismaticrap 2020-07-14 08:44 pm (UTC)

[ Zuko is, indeed, stunned. There is definitely a normal-ish teenager inside there somewhere and right now he's screaming "wtf" at all this. Zuko's world is still a marketplace economy, more or less — no chains, no pre-packaged junk food, no gaudy advertising, none of this. He stops cautiously in the center of the entrance after Sypha as the doors open, and once he passes through and they close again behind him, he still stands still, eyes searching. There's just so much of so much...

Eventually he pushes himself forward, eyeing the first snack aisle with great skepticism. The colorful plastic packaging on the candies and cute character logos on the snack-cakes and just the overwhelming variety of sweets was staggering, enough to make him shake his head and walk on. Stepping into the next aisle, chips weren't any less vast. He passed down, hoping in vain he might see something he recognizes — fire flakes, bean curd puffs, something... And indeed, something does jump out at him — they're not fire flakes, exactly, but they're bright red and look crunchy and there's some drawings of fire in the background of the logo. Done. Good enough for him. He spies a selection of mixed nuts — he recognizes nuts, okay, that's something, even if maybe there are some different kinds than on his planet, still familiar. He grabs a small pack of some spicy variety mix. He has a preference, can you tell...

He kinda hazily glides down the freezer aisle, clutching his two snacks so far close to him. There was no premade frozen food at home — what an invention... Uncle Iroh would be losing his mind right now if he were here. The passing thought draws a sadder look on Zuko's face again briefly, but he spies some chilled iced teas in the refrigerator as he keeps walking, and stops to peruse. That's a better use for that sad thought — he'll buy himself some tea in his uncle's spirit... There are so many flavors, though, and Zuko usually only drinks tea hot, and also only drinks whatever Iroh gives him, anyway — so he finds a basic green tea with ginseng and honey. His uncle would have surely spent much more time looking through the selection, but... he's not Iroh. He's only drinking this on a poetic whim.

He passes by the hot food bar, glancing over the spread of foods both familiar — donuts — and unfamiliar — pizza... Sypha mentioned that. She said it was terrible but wonderful. Didn't sell it to him. And he's also got very little concept of how much these things are worth, so he is trying to keep his selections pretty slim with small things. Small things cost less, right? On that note — feeling he's had just about his fill of the store, still a little overwhelmed with options, on his way back up to the register area, he passes an endcap with all kinds of slimjims, jerky, etc, those cheap dried meats Zuko's sure can't cost much, they're so small... But he knows what it is, and sees there are even different flavors (more spicy, yes, more), so he grabs like. Six or seven. Then heads toward Sypha, satisfied with his choices, holding them all close to his chest as he comes up.

And that constitutes as a meal to the prince tonight, apparently. Hot chips, spicy mixed nuts, green tea, and an excessive amount of beef jerky. This is how kings eat. Maybe. This one... ]
