You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. After an hour or two of wandering through the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. Because of the strange phenomena during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay. You will then be escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the Iris moon and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as the local Prismals.

The next destination: Prismatica.

Welcome to the Jungle
Iris Moon, Government Center (Arrival) and Planet Prismatica, City of Lunatia | top

Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated. After a quick tour of the city, new arrivals can find themselves getting cozy in their new homes.

A  Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.

Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

I Didn’t Choose the Hug Life, the Hug Life Chose Me
08/09 | Outside Lunatia, Kingdom of Calanthe | top

With the return of Lyestella and Vulpus to the land, the Lyestellans and Amegaharans have pledged to cooperate with the Lunatians in their effort to continue to restore Prismatica to its former glory and recover the planet’s lost history. The Prismals now turn their attention to the decrystallization of the land and the detoxification of the air, both remnants of the great cataclysm of ages past. The planet’s surface has already been changing, revealing new sites of archaeological interest. Aside from Neuhr Ellysti, another one was recently found to the far south of Lunatia in an old city that the Prismals call Calanthe.

The Moonblessed-produced Chroma has dissipated the toxic mist surrounding the city, revealing a sprawling, majestic kingdom encased in crystal as if it was frozen in time. The kingdom is partially submerged in water, requiring some sophisticated techniques to reach its innermost recesses. Lunar Scientia has requested for Chroma to be funneled into the ancient city to allow them to study it further.

As an apology for his antics last month, Vulpus has volunteered to lead the Calanthe decrystallization efforts with the power... of dance! His Azure Passion Blossom dance will help the Moonblessed generate more Chroma by amplifying it considerably.

B  As Vulpus dances, the Moonblessed are asked to participate in a large-scale hug-a-thon at the Calanthe research camp. The goal is to partner up with one another and try to remain awake for 3 hours, simply standing and hugging, in order to take home the following rewards: a generous amount of groceries, two luxurious dessert cakes (comes in two flavors!), and the choice to take home one of the latest Chromawear releases from Prissy Polyp.

Now that he’s being good, do you think Vulpus’s hips don’t lie? Nope. He is definitely back on his bullshit. For those unwilling to participate, they will find their bodies inexplicably “magnetized” to one another, spontaneously sending you through the air and sticking you to someone else. Escape is nigh impossible for at least an hour when the effects wear off. Better be prepared to make friends fast.

Ride It, My Pony
08/10 | top

The mass amounts of hug-induced Chroma successfully banish the crystal and toxic mist away and open up the kingdom of Calanthe. While many may be eager to venture into the unknown, Lunar Scientia warns everyone of the dangers ahead. Prepare yourselves, and don’t travel alone.

Calanthe is covered in runes and symbols that may be familiar to veteran Moonblessed, including the Mark of the Destroyer which had been present in the Glory. Meanwhile, the shimmering waters surrounding the city are remarkably beautiful, but with no ocean floor in sight — only an endless abyss.

C  Calanthe’s waters are enchanted to drown all those unwelcome, even those who can breathe underwater. It’s not a good idea to touch or stand close to the water for too long in any way, either. That will summon innumerous kelpie horses that will lunge out and ram against you, your friend, and/or the nearest Prismal researcher, instantly knocking them into the nearest wall. These creatures best described as finned horses made of water; they mysteriously evaporate after each attack, only reappearing to ram any threat to their territory again.

Once provoked, the kelpies will start conjuring bubble cages around its opponents, which will send them floating upwards before quickly sinking into the endless abyss. Damaging the bubble cages from within is completely ineffective, as they can only be broken by those outside of it. Rescuers, hurry and break the bubbles before it’s too late!

Alarmed by these developments, Lunar Scientia will order a temporary retreat as they try to figure out how to deal with all the furious kelpies before any more people are taken into the abyss.

Natural De-Selection
08/10 - 08/24 | top

Day and night, all begin to hear haunted whispers echo throughout Lunatia in the next coming days, among them the voices of those who were recently taken into the abyss, begging for help or mercy.

Ghost sightings of slain jellyfish and Korokiels from past battles flicker into view at random hours of the evening. Some people feel painful, spontaneous electric shocks. Others feel tentacles coil around and strangle them for a few seconds before the sensation disappears completely.

Just what did they unearth in Calanthe? News programs, articles, and social media are filled with rumors and conspiracy theories, but all seem to agree that the research team has awakened an ancient curse.

Those who were not freed in time and kidnapped into Calanthe’s watery abyss will remain in an unusual stasis, floating about in the bubble with those they are trapped with. The longer they stay there, the smaller the bubble gets, making it harder for them to breathe. Their most painful thoughts may end up echoing throughout Lunatia. The captured can stave off death a bit longer by constantly moonlacing until rescue comes for them.

D  Time is of the essence. As soon as Lunar Scientia quickly announces their findings, everyone dives straight back into the bottomless depths. All rescuers will be given a newly developed Carcharian potion that will allow Moonblessed to temporarily grow shark properties, including the special ability to breathe in Calanthe’s waters, enhanced flexibility and agility in the water, and possession of sharp jagged teeth. These teeth are magically effective against kelpies who seem to fear the shark kind. The potion’s effects will naturally wear off after an hour, so be sure to complete your rescue by then.

With the kidnapped Prismals and Moonblessed back home safely, the Prismals will continue to carefully study how to safely navigate the area and explore Calanthe.

That will disappoint him the most; he is not one to bother attacking the weak. He is also not one who will seek chroma through any other means than battle. It will be a fine line for him but not the first one he has walked. He has and always will do things, his way. He had thought this place nothing but brainwashed sheep, willing to bow to the gilded cage they are in. This young man is a pleasant surprise, at least someone has some teeth.

"Very well..."

Hibari is not afraid to strike first either but he has also learned with age, that some times waiting for the right time to bite is his best option. May as well see what the young man comes at him with. When the dark fibers begin to gather Hibari goes one step beyond his tonfa, purple flames immediately alighting.

They are nowhere near his full strength, Akutagawa will have to earn that with his blows. Hibari is studying the claw, the way the other wields it, he'll waste no movement. It nearly reaches him, enough to make the hair across his forehead flutter, yet it does not hit.

Did he move? Yes but the barest fraction and at the same time he brings a tonfa up, again not one wasted inch of movement when he arches his arm, his tonfa aiming to take a bite out of that black claw before it can retract.

Hmm, this might be more interesting than he thought.

"Is that the best you can do?"

He tends to also be defiant, but here, Akutagawa has no choice but to assimilate with the culture. Fighting can give you chroma, but it’s not nearly enough to power his ability. The only reason why he plays along with this planet’s antics is to maintain his power, since without it, he’s nothing.

Though, this fight is a breath of fresh air. It’s been a long time since someone has his adrenaline rushing. He eyes those weird purple flames with interest, wondering the properties they hold. All he can do is test this stranger and see how he utilizes them.

Akutagawa notes that Hibari is fast, when he evades the black claw by a hair and in the same motion, brings his tonfa up to hit the dark tendril. The cloud guardian might notice that when he strikes the cloth derived appendage the material is much hardier than it seems. It reverberates against the metal of Hibari’s weapon bouncing off and changing it’s trajectory in mid-air to attack from the side.

Akutagawa smirks at the premature taunt. “Not at all. I’ve got more up my sleeve.”

Hibari will come to realize it; not accept it but he has no desire to die. He can not continue to buck the restraints placed on him by this place and his captors if he is a dead man. He does not need his flames to be deadly, they are a bonus.

His strength is all internal, a force of nature the weapons and powers only enhance a man who was conceived with a natural-born killer's nature. Unforgiving, harsh, meeting him on his ground this way is the one way to gain his notice. Maybe his respect, not that his respect is treated much differently than his distaste. One is just more violent than the other. Akutagawa earns that respect here, he can be guaranteed a battle every time he comes across this man.

Good.

He knew it was no ordinary coat, the tonfa tells him what he needs to know when he feels vibrations in his muscle. Better he likes the feel of the power in that coat, his flames right now doing nothing more than making his tonfa blows that much harder.

"Don't disappoint me then." His clipped steps move him closer, if the young man's range can already reach him, may as well test what happens up close. Or maybe Hibari is ready to see how well a tonfa bite affects his actual person.

He seems in no rush as he closes the short distance, slow, measured. Then it changes, the air charges, and Hibari becomes a fluid specter, keeping an eye on the coat, he aims a tonfa for Akutagawa's chin.

killercoat: (caught by surprise)

You're fine!

[personal profile] killercoat 2020-08-11 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Unlike Hibari's body, which is strong, can take a lot of punishment and deal heavy blows, Akutagawa isn't so healthy. Sure, he can throw a punch, and even strain his body beyond its limits, but he knows his physique is weak. As a mid-range fighter, his main objective is protecting his body and if enemies come too close, there's potential for them to inflict a devastating hit. He can't afford that.

So when the stranger surges towards him, almost too fast for Akutagawa to react, it does catch him by surprise. Though, this isn't his first time anyone has managed to get within his vicinity within a fight, and probably not the last time. His right hand comes up on reflex as Hibari goes for his chin, instead of metal connecting with his face, the older man hits a force field.

Akutagawa quickly jumps back, shoes skidding across the pavement as he tries to get more distance. His devoured space technique is too much of a chroma drain, so he can't rely on it again. His gray eyes narrow as he decides he needs to restrain this man, he's too swift and strong to allow him to roam around freely.

Several more tendrils slither from the fabric of Akutagawa's coat, sinking into the ground and emerging where Hibari stands. The black fibers try to wrap around the guardian's legs and some dark strands even stretch further up to constrict his arms as well.

Thanks!

Like blood in shark-infested waters, Hibari sniffs out weaknesses with each attack he makes. He is quick, he has potential but he is weak up close. The force field makes him smirk, how many times can he bring that move up the hitman wonders.

Restraining him is the worst possible idea, had he not been restrained earlier he would be about two levels less irritated. As it is, he moves with ease, calculating the way those tendrils move, as he smacks them back with a tonfa here and there when they come to close.

Two hits, it's not ideal, but he'll have to take that many to get in close enough to hit the young man. Or, check to see if he has Roll, if he has Roll the fight is as good as done.

Except, he wants to feel the bite. His box can wait.

While the young man continues his assault the Cloud moves in, one tendril takes his right arm, he smirks. Closer still he moves, calculating, his eyes taking on a predatory gleam, the second tendril takes his right shoulder, his wrist is still free, that is most important.

It's like a dance from there to avoid the remaining tendrils and aim to come in close, it is a calculated risk because he does not know what those two caught on him can do entirely.

But if it allows his tonfa blow to the chest to land, he'll be satisfied. Despite his irritation, even his blow does not hold his full power, he will not kill someone this young, but he will aim to knock them out in a display of irritation and power.

Akutagawa observes with awe as this man fights against the dark strands, even able to evade capture of his left arm. He's still able to stalk towards him despite being anchored down by his tendrils. This man is a beast. It's been a long time since he fought anyone so formidable. Most people aren't worth the effort, but this man is truly a force to be reckoned with.

His body is weak, but it's something Akutagawa is already aware of him. He has a technique that can supplement that weakness, but he reserves his trump card for later. He's mindful that he can't become too carried away, since he's still on a no-kill ban and he doesn't want to damage any of his surroundings.

At that predatory gleam, the mafioso shivers inwardly, feeling both excitement and fear. Akutagawa smirks since this is far from over. As Hibari draws near, the black strands that latch onto him start to tighten, cutting into him like sharpen blades.

He watches Hibari, seeing that tonfa raise to swipe at his chest. Even though the hitman holds back, there's enough wind behind that swing to blow at Akutagawa's hair and clothes. If it reaches him, he'll go down. Though before it can hit another tendril comes out from the breast of his coat, the tonfa is in the jaws of the dragon-like head, his ability forcing back Hibari's hand.

"I won't go down so easily!" Two more dragon heads spring out from the back of his coat, surging towards Hibari with the intent to collide into the guardian with full force.

Weaknesses are bound to exist it does impress Hibari that this young man may have them but he stands firm and he seems to believe he has a way of working around them. He has not given up if he is trying harder to stop him now than when they started.

As he should, Hibari has upped the ante with each move to see how far he can push and to test those abilities, they are rather interesting. Oh so it does have an edge, he thought it might as he feels it bite through the suit and start toward his arm, well done, that feels pleasant and he shows no sign of any pain or discomfort.

Now those dragon heads are a sight, Hibari has never seen their like and they only make his smirk sharper. Yes, this was what he was looking for. With a ferocious show of strength he rips his lower arm free, twisting his body in time to avoid full capture as the purple flames flare along with his weapon, he lays out a series of strikes with the weapon to see what kind of damage he can inflict on the dragons or tendrils of the coat which hold him. After all, it seems without the coat he can end this.

"If you did, you'd have been a waste of my time, I don't like to waste my time." For now, he does not feel that he is, there is even a little enjoyment at this, come as hard as you can his every move and action says. Let me see what you've got.

"Wasting your time is the same as wasting my own."

Usually, Akutagawa went straight for the vitals. He prefers to finish a fight quickly, and without his opponent suffering too much. However, since he has no intention of killing this man (it would be a shame if did), then he could fight with him a bit more. Despite, struggling against him, he does admire the hitman's brute strength. Not many people can physically tear themselves out of Rashoumon's entanglement, but Hibari manages to do it without flinching.

He watches as those purple flames grow bigger, and they seem to exemplify the strength of his strikes. His movements are pretty seamless as he beats back the dragons and the tendrils. The dragons are more persistent in attacking Hibari even when knocked back, but Akutagawa calls back the tendrils trying to immobilize the hitman and keeps them in the ground.

Akutagawa already starts to feel the strain. His ability requires a lot of chroma, and even if he does get some return in sparring with Hibari, it's not enough to sustain his power. Still, he pushes himself, using the tendrils in the ground to strike at Hibari while he's preoccupied with the black dragons. The floor underneath the guardian's feet starts to glow red, a telltale sign of what's to come next. Various dark spikes shoot out from the ground, trying to pierce the older man.

[ooc: I have opted not to apply for him this round; he is too prickly I think I am applying Yamamoto if you'd like an in game fight. I would also love to continue this one in his open post or here if you would like. Thank you!]

_____

In truth, Hibari does not escape unscathed, he is willing to sacrifice injury in a battle. Calculating them he knew the coat had sharp edges and that coming away with a wound was a likely outcome. However, even at the age of sixteen until he is so wounded he is at death's door, Hibari Kyouya will not stop.

He sees the glow of the ground, unaware of what's to come he focuses most of his energy on battling the dragons coming at him. His flames it would seem do take chroma too because he is feeling a strain he is not used to as if they are drawing something from him the larger he makes them. Annoying.

Those spikes shoot up and he arches into a backflip, before jumping back several turns, barely missing, one catches his right leg. He can do damage but he needs to get in closer, that said those spikes and dragons are a trick that makes it difficult.

Instead, Hibari expends more energy, propelling himself to the side with his flames, hoping to use his speed to come at the other from a different angle, if he can't get the tonfa to the chin, he'll aim from the side for the rib cage.

Sorry for the delay!!

ooc: I was under the weather, so I couldn’t reply back sooner than this. I’m fine with continuing the thread here, CAPTCHA permitting. I understand the whole prickly thing. The struggle is real. Did you get in with Yams? I’ll toss Aku his way if given the chance.

———————
This man is truly testing his limits, and Akutagawa doesn’t mind it at all. It’s hard to come by someone who is worthy of fighting against him. Hibari is on another level of combat skill that the mafioso wishes to obtain. Maybe, when they finally lay down their swords, Akutagawa would need to ask this stranger’s name for future reference.

He keeps his eyes on the hitman as he maneuvers away from both his spikes and dragons. He doesn’t escape entanglement unscathed, but still manages to not get seriously wounded. His gray eyes narrow as those purple flames blaze even bigger, propelling the man forward. His speed picks up enough to catch the killer off guard.

The tonfa that swings towards his face, Akutagawa brings up his hand on reflex, using his ability to wrap around his appendage creating an harden skin to bounce off that attack. However, it’s the counterblow to his ribs that catches him. Akutagawa bends forward, his body reeling from the impact. He drops to his knees, coughing up spit. He recoils his tendrils back into his coat, and brings up his barrier for any impending attacks that might follow.

He could keep going, he wants to finish this fight properly, but draining his chroma further than he has is not ideal. He grips his side as he looks towards Hibari.“As much as I want to continue, it’s not wise. You felt the strain too, didn’t you?”

OOC: My apologies, I honestly was hoping to find the voice for this guy again and kept this thread waiting. But I am sadly struggling far too much with it and even after reviewing it is just not there for me. I hate to do this and let this go because you gave me such a beautiful response every time and I thank you for that.

I did get Yamamoto in-game and would love to try something with the two of them or any of my other guys and if ever Hibari works for me again I would be glad to throw together something at that time but I don't want to just keep leaving this open ended on you this way.

Feel free to add me on Plurk [plurk.com profile] roniknowszilch for plotting things. I've been slow because of health issues, but hopefully, soon I can be more active.
