▶ TDM .019
You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. After an hour or two of wandering through the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. Because of the strange phenomena during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.
You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay. You will then be escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the Iris moon and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as the local Prismals.
The next destination: Prismatica.

Iris Moon, Government Center (Arrival) and Planet Prismatica, City of Lunatia | top
Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated. After a quick tour of the city, new arrivals can find themselves getting cozy in their new homes.
A Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.
Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

The recent torrential rains and showdown with the Viergian Queen Tempeste have shifted the sands of Crystal Beach and dredged up seaweed and flotsam from below. The slight mess coupled with the seasonal transition into fall makes for a quieter beach and a more open space, if you pick the right time of the day.
Kazuma Kuwabara (
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
It's not easy to summon, but he manages it, reflecting on his home and how to best reach it, how to potentially help others reach theirs. It's just past dawn when a large, clean tear in reality rises up along the atmosphere just above the mostly deserted beach, as though the scenery were made of fabric being met with sharp scissors. Beyond the tear is a swirling vortex of color and more.
What more means, Kuwabara doesn't personally get to discover. His energy is expended almost instantaneously, and he grows solidly crystallized before he hits the ground. The rest of it... that's for Prismatica and the Moonblessed around to discover.
B The dimensional tear gives way to several more multicolored tears all across the planet. These strange rips have a strong gravitational pull that is near impossible to outrun. Find yourself close to one, and you may be pulled inside before you can even think to escape.
What’s on the other end? Inside, you find a scene of Prismatica ten years into the future, and the world is significantly more advanced. It is a time of great prosperity. The planet has been completely restored, flourishing with new life. Ten years' worth of memories flood your mind, and you have settled so deep into the culture and the world that you now think of yourself as a true-blue Prismatican. Maybe you have a good job. Maybe you have a spouse and three kids. Maybe you still think about home from time to time. Maybe you wouldn’t mind staying here with your loved ones. Hey, a lot can happen in ten years.

Not every dimensional tear leads to paradise. Some may pull you deep into the flames of a dying world, during the Calamity centuries ago. The first to greet you is King Majestas, his visage sitting on top of a throne built over a mound of crystallized bones. He fondly strokes his beautiful satyr lover, Lunae, as he encourages you to explore the vast wasteland. Attacking him is useless as he will disappear with Lunae after saying his piece.
C All Chroma has evaporated, and everything is covered in an endless diamond sheen. In the distance, you hear the screams of people dying and the constant sounds of crystals being ground up.
Eventually, shadows appear before your eyes. Possessing crystal horns and a crystal tail, these devil shadows are consumed by your worst sin and will not hesitate to hurt you and those around you. The slothful can put others to sleep and soon ravage them in their slumber, the lustful can awaken the darkest taboo desires in you, and so on. No matter what your worst sin is, the shadows will thoroughly enjoy committing vile acts until you submit yourself to them.

A day or two after the dimensional tears start appearing, Lunar Scientia announces that they have finished analyzing the mysterious rifts and will proceed to seal them after rescuing the missing Moonblessed. They will be calling for the Moon Knights and any remaining Moonblessed volunteers to grab some dimension sealing equipment. Yes, you read that right. The tears will be sealed shut in nearly the same way one would vacuum seal food for extra freshness.
D These dimension sealers are not just any ordinary vacuums. They require an excessive amount of Chroma to power. Just hugging one person alone won’t cut it. Prolonged awkward and uncomfortable hugs with at least two or three different Moonblessed will do the trick.
The Lunar Scientia will suggest setting up camp with your chosen partners and dimension sealers near a dimensional tear. Spooning is naturally the most optimal of positions. The longer you moonlace and the more people you engage in contact with, the higher the effectiveness of the dimension sealers. A meter on the device will indicate when it’s ready to be activated, but beware of the sinful shadows from Prompt C trying to stop you from sealing the rifts.

The hells is a Moomba?
no subject
They're these adorable orange fuzzy cat-like animals. Except they can walk on two legs. Well, to be fair, sometimes they walk on all fours, though I guess if you can use them, you may as well.
Wouldn't it be neat if you could walk on all fours just on a whim like that? I mean, imagine how high you could jump! Or how fast you could run!
Like, nothing's technically stopping us from trying, but it looks so weird, man. Or it sure felt weird when I tried. Maybe I wasn't doing it right? There's probably a trick to it. We just have to figure it out!
But how can we figure out all fours walking unless we get a whole bunch of people to give it a whirl...
Hey! Do you think we could get a few folks to volunteer for an all-fours relay, or something???
no subject
I never thought I'd see the day that
text would look like it didn't know when to pipe down
amazing
And you could, but I'd win it.
I already know how to race on all fours.
[ Some things you learn as a miqo'te never quite leave. ]
But now you have to show me what a Moomba looks like.
What colour are they? What sort of paws do they have?
What about their eyes?
Do they have tails? The tails are important.
1/2
Hey!! Sometimes you just gotta freewrite a bit! Let that stream of consciousness take you where you're supposed to go!
[We'll ignore the fact that nobody asked for said stream.]
Woah, wait, you can do it??? You can run on all fours and win a race?! That's amazing! Could I see it in action?
As for what a Moomba looks like... maybe it'll be better if I show you.
Hang on a second.
I think there's a kid with some crayons over there. I'm gonna see if I can borrow them.
2/2 and i am so sorry
There we go! A masterpiece!
I am so endeared♥
Cute. Almost looks like a hrothgar.
But smaller and funnier.
Those are lion-men back where I come from.
You're not a bad artist, either.
My oldest son can draw chocobo about as good as this.
He's not here or I'd have you be friends and colour together.
[ Yes, she now thinks Laguna's a kid. ]
OH GOOD
[Ohhhhh no.]
[At first, Laguna was feeling pretty good about that drawing. Heck, he was excited to hear about the hrothgar!!!]
[But then came the 'oldest son' comment, and it clicks.]
[He has no idea how to salvage this.]
[Okay, Laguna, how can we turn this around??? You can't have this person think that you're some kind of kid... Well they did say 'son', right? That's something you have in common!]
[Never mind the fact that he found out he had a kid just a short while before arriving here. That's a whole separate bit of awkwardness that's going to need some addressing, but not right now. Definitely not right now.]
You don't say!!!
Maybe your kid and my kid can play together if they show up!
[Nailed it.]
THIS COMMENT MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD POOR SQUALL LMFAO
You must have quite the imagination, but I encourage that!
Don't try to grow up too fast though.
It's good to enjoy your childhood.
If you're good, I'll show you how to race on all fours too with the other kids I look after here.
Now who looks after you? We need their permission first. Did they arrive with you?
[ This person acts as excitable as her kids, so of course she's still assuming he's one too. ]
it just keeps getting worse...!
Grew up: just the right speed
Childhood: enjoyed
Imagination: survived
I swear I'm not a kid!!!
[Except phrasing it like that isn't doing him any favors...]
no subject
There's a video function on this device.
Best ask permission from an adult before you show yourself, though.
Because you certainly read the way my son of four turns past would protest, you know.
[ She's spent time here and knows how to look after and protect kids, alright!
What if this kid arrived alone, though? She'll have to tell the Moon Knights... ]
Use the button with the camera.
[ And click, on it goes. She'll just show him a little stream of herself complete with ear wiggles, so he doesn't feel too nervous! ]
Hullo, there! Name's Megumi, and I'm the Matriarch of my tribe!
[ She is so ready to call the Moon Knights if he turns out to be an actual kid! ]
no subject
[Laguna listens Megumi to introduce herself, absolutely transfixed by that ear wiggle. He's never met an actual cat person before! He has so many questions... but those will have to wait until after he remembers to turn on the video function as well and introduce himself.]
[Congratulations, Megumi, once Laguna (finally) manages to switch over, you're going to get a screen full of middle-aged dude.]
Hi Megumi. Name's Laguna, and I'm the guy who told you so.
no subject
Oh, pooh. I really was hoping you'd be someone my ward's age so she'd have someone to play with. But you're a good looking man, Laguna.
[ She beams, clapping her hands together. ]
Not that I'm complaining! You've a really handsome face!
[ It's sincere— she's never one to falsely compliment, but well, this turned out for the better, didn't it? ]
How old's your son, anyroad? Unless you were making that up!
no subject
[He's been called handsome plenty of times before, sure, but it never ceases to flatter him. In this case, it seems like a cat has literally got his tongue.]
O-Oh, uh... thanks!
[Annnnd that subject change can't come fast enough.]
Nah, not making it up! He's seve--
[It suddenly hits him that hey, maybe it's bad form to talk about your kid to a random stranger before you even have a chance to talk to him about the fact that he's his dad.]
[But he's already committed somewhat... how to fix this??]
--nnnnnnnnn.
no subject
Seven? That's older than I'd assumed you'd have.
[ He's so weird. Her ears flick, as she waves a hand. ]
My eldest is four. The triplets are younger, of course.
[ She doesn't look very old herself, if one thinks of it. ]
... now what's that strange reaction for? You're not one of those absent fathers that doesn't even know what their family is up to, are you?
[ Who knows? She's met enough of them to scold. ]
no subject
[Oof on multiple levels, even.]
[Laguna does his best to take the unintentional low blows in stride, although his face does flush a bit more. It's not Megumi's fault. She has no idea about the wild and overwhelming events that led to Laguna and Squall's estrangement, or that there's anything weird going on at all.]
Well, it's, you know...
[He scratches at the back and clears his throat to stall for time before collecting himself.]
[Still, it may be a little telling that he's avoiding her eye for a few moments--at least until he speaks up again.]
There's just a lot going on at once! Two seconds ago you were calling me a little kid, and now we're talking about our own! You gotta go easy on handsome guys. Even us smart ones get tripped up once in a while. It's part of those good-lookin' genes.
[That's as good an excuse as any, right?]
Anyway! You said you have four kids total? Do cat people have litters or something?
no subject
Sure it is. And I'm not a cat. I'm a miqo'te. Mee-ko-tay. Say it and don't forget it! And I'm a Keeper of the Moon miqo'te, so don't mix me up with Keepers of the Sun!
[ She actually doesn't expect him to keep that in mind, but it's worth a mention anyway. She does beam. ]
And aye, I've four kits. Three sons and a daughter! Which is strange. Miqo'te usually have more daughters! I blame my former husband. He's a hrothgar. Do you have a mate?
no subject
[Okay, good, it looks like that worked. Nothing like a good distraction!]
[Or so he thinks.]
[Laguna nods along with Megumi's words, actually interested in the dynamics of her family and imagining a small horde of tiny kitten-kids (kiddens???). Then, there's intrigue at the mention of a 'former' husband, although he knows better than to stick his nose into such affairs.]
[And then comes that last question. He really should've expected it, what with the conversation topic at hand, but it still catches Laguna off guard.]
A mate... oh! You mean am I married?
[There's a little skip of his heart, and the same little pang that arises whenever the subject of Raine comes up, even if just glossing its surface. Laguna sets his face in a smile, though. No reason to make Megumi feel bad over a totally fair question.]
Yeah! Hold on.
[The view from the camera shifts back and forth as he turns his arm. When it settles back on his face, Laguna holds up a ring. He's careful with it--far more careful than with anything else on his person (including his person)--as its delicately perched between his thumb and forefinger.]
She's, uh, not here. But yeah. H-How about you? Any other hrothgar in your life?
I love your Laguna btw ❤️
Lucky mate you've got, then. I'm sure you've got lots for her to listen to.
[ She lifts her own hand, the back of it facing him
they show their Eternal Bond rings the same way Laguna and Raine do in the ending, though there's no ring on her finger. ]None anymore, but we're still friends. Almost miss wearing a ring, though. Almost. But I've plenty of lovers and a boyfriend here, so it isn't so bad.
[ She shrugs with a smile. ]
Not that it's strange for miqo'te to have more than one lover. We don't have a lot of men born to us! So we have to share the ones we do at times. Or mate with others—
[ She's just telling him this to gauge his reaction- one of her hobbies is flustering cute people after all. ]
oh gosh, thank you!!!
Oh! O-Oh, I see, you're uh... uh... p-polytoed! That's cool!
[That's totally the word for it. Right? Yeah, has to be.]
If it works for you, I mean, I ain't judgin'!
no subject
[ She's just giving him a dry look at that. Where in the Twelve's names do toes come into this?? She shakes her head, but there's some amusement in her eyes. ]
You're going to have to find moonlacing partners about, you know. Without chroma, you'll just end up melting away.
[ Alright, not melting, but exaggeration usually works. ]
no subject
[Except one is an actual word and the other is something he came up with off the top of his head.]
Yeah, yeah, I know! I'm just...
[Off camera, Laguna fidgets with his wedding ring.]
...I'll figure something out. Don't worry about me!
no subject
[ Her voice is just slightly firm, wanting him to look up at her when she talks— ]
Holding hands and hugging is just as good. When I still had my husband— well, it's not like he'd have minded then—
[ He didn't quite care, either. It'll be different for someone like Laguna though- at least hrothgar and miqo'te partners would understand that they need to be with others when they can't have their mates, and that it wouldn't affect their partnerships so long as they were honest about it. ]
I'd guess a partner would understand if it was to keep yourself alive, aye? Of course, you could live without it, but...
[ How lonely would that be? Touch increases camaraderie and bonding! She tilts her head. ]
Think your mate would be sad?
no subject
[Megumi's question, however, invites an entirely different type of silence. The kind where, for once, Laguna can't express anything externally. The kind that allows his mind to catch up to that motormouth of his and keep it clamped shut so he can think about his words for once.]
[Do I think Raine would be sad? Does it matter what I think?]
[She was sad when I left for Esthar, and I did it anyway. She must've been sad when I didn't come back with Elle, when I wasn't there when Squall was born, when I wasn't there when she--]
[Laguna swallows.]
[Fact is, I did what I wanted and look how it ended up for her. I dunno if she's watching now, but I do know that I owe it to her not to throw all that away.]
[And face it, if she were alive, she'd totally kick my ass.]
It's, uh, it's complicated.
[The camera shifts again as Laguna slips his ring back on his finger. When it refocuses on him, whatever melancholy that crossed his features before is replaced by half a grin and a reset of his shoulders.]
But hey, if we're talking hugs and hands? That's no problem at all! I'm practically an expert at those!
no subject
Still, she's curious— as much as she and any other miqo'te will say they're not cats, that curiosity remains a consistent. ]
... Right.
[ She finally sighs and shrugs, lifting a hand thoughtfully. ]
Suppose you'll be fine, then. Known too many here who get guilty about partners that never end up showing here, and being miserable when they actually want some closeness. It's not worth it. And you're only human.
[ She squints. ]
Unless you're a chocobo in a human outfit, anyroad. Wouldn't be surprised if you were.
[ And even then, chocobo like hugs and pets!! ]
no subject
[Megumi’s joke earns a chuckle!]
Hey, even if I was I’d never tell.
You wouldn’t even get a kweh outta me.
