▶ TDM .019

You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. After an hour or two of wandering through the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. Because of the strange phenomena during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay. You will then be escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the Iris moon and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as the local Prismals.

The next destination: Prismatica.

Welcome to the Jungle
Iris Moon, Government Center (Arrival) and Planet Prismatica, City of Lunatia | top

Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated. After a quick tour of the city, new arrivals can find themselves getting cozy in their new homes.

A  Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.

Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

What’s Behind Door #1?
09/08 | Crystal Beach, Lunatia | Submitted by: [personal profile] machizumo | top

The recent torrential rains and showdown with the Viergian Queen Tempeste have shifted the sands of Crystal Beach and dredged up seaweed and flotsam from below. The slight mess coupled with the seasonal transition into fall makes for a quieter beach and a more open space, if you pick the right time of the day.

Kazuma Kuwabara ([personal profile] machizumo), one of Lunatia's Moonblessed, has done his best to pick the right moment. He's saved up his energy -his Chroma- as best as he’s been able to, and he's decided that he's going to give busting out of Prismatica a shot. He's not sure how good his odds are, but there are odds. While Kuwabara is only but a human fighter who won't really be able to stack up against the demons that he normally keeps in his company, he does have one thing that nobody else he's heard of has... the ability to slice through dimensions!

It's not easy to summon, but he manages it, reflecting on his home and how to best reach it, how to potentially help others reach theirs. It's just past dawn when a large, clean tear in reality rises up along the atmosphere just above the mostly deserted beach, as though the scenery were made of fabric being met with sharp scissors. Beyond the tear is a swirling vortex of color and more.

What more means, Kuwabara doesn't personally get to discover. His energy is expended almost instantaneously, and he grows solidly crystallized before he hits the ground. The rest of it... that's for Prismatica and the Moonblessed around to discover.

B  The dimensional tear gives way to several more multicolored tears all across the planet. These strange rips have a strong gravitational pull that is near impossible to outrun. Find yourself close to one, and you may be pulled inside before you can even think to escape.

What’s on the other end? Inside, you find a scene of Prismatica ten years into the future, and the world is significantly more advanced. It is a time of great prosperity. The planet has been completely restored, flourishing with new life. Ten years' worth of memories flood your mind, and you have settled so deep into the culture and the world that you now think of yourself as a true-blue Prismatican. Maybe you have a good job. Maybe you have a spouse and three kids. Maybe you still think about home from time to time. Maybe you wouldn’t mind staying here with your loved ones. Hey, a lot can happen in ten years.

Fire and Brimstone
09/08 | Dimensional Tears | top

Not every dimensional tear leads to paradise. Some may pull you deep into the flames of a dying world, during the Calamity centuries ago. The first to greet you is King Majestas, his visage sitting on top of a throne built over a mound of crystallized bones. He fondly strokes his beautiful satyr lover, Lunae, as he encourages you to explore the vast wasteland. Attacking him is useless as he will disappear with Lunae after saying his piece.

C  All Chroma has evaporated, and everything is covered in an endless diamond sheen. In the distance, you hear the screams of people dying and the constant sounds of crystals being ground up.

Eventually, shadows appear before your eyes. Possessing crystal horns and a crystal tail, these devil shadows are consumed by your worst sin and will not hesitate to hurt you and those around you. The slothful can put others to sleep and soon ravage them in their slumber, the lustful can awaken the darkest taboo desires in you, and so on. No matter what your worst sin is, the shadows will thoroughly enjoy committing vile acts until you submit yourself to them.

Closing the Gap
09/09 - 09/10 | top

A day or two after the dimensional tears start appearing, Lunar Scientia announces that they have finished analyzing the mysterious rifts and will proceed to seal them after rescuing the missing Moonblessed. They will be calling for the Moon Knights and any remaining Moonblessed volunteers to grab some dimension sealing equipment. Yes, you read that right. The tears will be sealed shut in nearly the same way one would vacuum seal food for extra freshness.

D  These dimension sealers are not just any ordinary vacuums. They require an excessive amount of Chroma to power. Just hugging one person alone won’t cut it. Prolonged awkward and uncomfortable hugs with at least two or three different Moonblessed will do the trick.

The Lunar Scientia will suggest setting up camp with your chosen partners and dimension sealers near a dimensional tear. Spooning is naturally the most optimal of positions. The longer you moonlace and the more people you engage in contact with, the higher the effectiveness of the dimension sealers. A meter on the device will indicate when it’s ready to be activated, but beware of the sinful shadows from Prompt C trying to stop you from sealing the rifts.

Once the holes are sealed and everyone is rescued, the Lunatian government and mainstream media stations will start issuing friendly PSAs on all the public access networks about the dangers of cutting holes through the fabric of their universe.

[If it hadn't been for the Triple Moons, Ianchus might have recognized Rey already. As it is, she's currently sporting significantly more scales than usual, with splotches of red-orange on her skin. From the waist down is a giant 25-foot long tail curled around underneath the table, as if trying to take up as little space as possible in this establishment.

[With Sanguis comes an urge to escape to the bottom of a bottle. She's finishing her current drink when the Prismal waitstaff approaches her with uneasy recognition, seemingly hoping to quell her aggressive aura with promise of a free drink.]

Sorry, who...?

[The Prismal jerks her head in the direction of a long-haired person at the bar.

[Rey's bright green, serpentine eyes squints as she studies the figure, only to find her senses dulled and vision blurred after a couple drinks. Fucking Sanguis also makes her a fucking lightweight, it seems.

[She orders a gin and tonic before she gets up from her seat. Having spent more than enough time trying to figure out how to move in her snake body during previous cycles, it isn't too hard for Rey to make her way to the bar. She miscalculates her trajectory and ends up slamming against the counter harder than intended, but her inebriated senses have dulled pain plenty, too.

[After an "oof", she quickly recovers to study her benefactor. Even up a little closer, she still can't make out their features. Her pupils taper into slits.]

Who the fuck are you? [She may or may not be slurring.]

Mm? Just another patron of this establishment. You seemed like you needed another one, and--

[...Huh??]
vocarrah: (optimism)

[personal profile] vocarrah 2020-09-29 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
--Rey?!

[Okay part of the reason he'd bought the person the drink was because they had reminded him of someone he'd known, but he hadn't expected it to actually be...but those scars (long admired during his time in Hadriel), that rough way of speaking... even under the scales, he knows that woman, he's sure.]
circumitus: Fuck early work. Fuck anything in the morning that doesn't involve sleeping, sex or bacon. (fuck morning drills)

[Rey gives a start, leaning back from the stranger and staring as though that would help give her any sense of recognition.

[Nope, still nothing.]

...

We met?
vocarrah: (change the whole world)

[personal profile] vocarrah 2020-10-09 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It is you, isn't it?

[He leans closer, eyes practically sparkling.]

These...moonblessings, ah? Fascinating aren't they, ah? [He's just so thrilled that it's her!]
circumitus: (your girlfriend is a south jersey whore.)

[personal profile] circumitus 2020-10-14 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
[...

[Okay, that's new. Most of the time when people act like they've met her before, they're not usually acting excited about that prospect.]

Yeah... interesting. [Christ, why can't she see clearly? She should really be more mindful of her alcohol intake during Sanguis. Moving forward this time, she squints at the stranger.] Your name? Would've had to recognize someone like you if you were in here before.

[Of that she's pretty sure.]
vocarrah: (prends garde à toi)

[personal profile] vocarrah 2020-10-14 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah...I wasn't here before. It was another place called Hadriel. My memories are fuzzy, but I remember you.

[He pauses, tilting his head, his thoughtful. Does she not remember? He shouldn't be too pushy, knowing Rey.]

...Ianchus Cepheos.
circumitus: Petting the cat and listening to "you've got a friend". This is why I drink. To make sense of situations like this. (gettin too old for this shit)

[personal profile] circumitus 2020-10-18 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[The gin and tonic arrives right on time, as Rey is studying the stranger's face. She picks it up, still studying the hazy shape before her. The name doesn't ring a bell either, nor does the place mentioned.]

Hadriel? Where's that? Someplace in Ecuador? [Rey asks this while taking a long, slow drink from her glass, eyes trained on Ianchus. The fact that it could be anywhere other than Earth in the year 2153 doesn't occur to her at all. Why else would someone recognize her, after all?]
vocarrah: (there's something beautiful)

[personal profile] vocarrah 2020-10-21 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ecuador?

[Sparkly eyes! Rey, he wants to know about Ecuador, is that an area where she is from...?? No...no, he has to be polite.

He sits back, taking a sip of his bourbon.]

No...it was a city, but one that moved between planets. Can you believe that...? Moving between entire planets!

[Even saying it makes it sound like an absolute dream.]

You had a bar. The Speakeasy...? [Will that help?]

circumitus: (come again?)

[personal profile] circumitus 2020-10-26 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[A year ago, Rey would've been looking at Ianchus like someone who had just sprouted a second head that started speaking Spanish. The concept of moving to other planets was a dream long gone in her world, severed by the AI that intended to keep humanity grounded to their current and only world they were now obligated to try and fix.

[But Rey has been around a while. Long enough for her to have gained a certain kind of complacency when confronted with concepts she would otherwise disregard as fantastical.

[So it's not that which Rey is raising a brow at, so much as the last part.]

Speakeasy, you say? [She blinks, mulling over another long drink.] Mn, no. Am familiar with the process of making moonshine. Never owned a bar, though.

[Sorry, Ianchus. Fortunately, Rey is considerably too hammered to care that someone she doesn't recognize seems to know her.]
