▶ EVENT.021 - THE END

The sudden stop of Moonblessed arrivals prompts concern from the Moon Government Centers. Although they’ve combed every square inch of the Iris moon, the absence of new faces lends to the growing paranoia that something might have happened or is about to happen again. Conspiracy theorists even claim the gods have forsaken the planet and do not care about their survival any longer.

Most Prismals postulate that the impressive rate of Chroma being produced by the current Moonblessed will be enough to fully restore the planet. There’s no longer any need to bring anyone else from afar.

As everyone awaits to see how events will transpire these upcoming months, the weather will start to cool considerably while more plains and forests decrystallize outwards from Lunatia, giving more unprecedented access to new continents.

Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman
top

A few lingering fall showers help restore the greenery as vegetables and fruits start sprouting at the same farms that had wilted weeks ago. Large, thick vines climb over buildings and crawl through streets, their features similar to Vinea vehementi, but a friendlier variety than the kind that greeted the first Moonblessed upon arrival. Rather than spread poisonous pollen, these friendly vines are more eager to help Moonblessed with their groceries and play fetch with fallen branches. The Lunar Scientia assures the public that keeping these plants around are safe; it appears that the Moonblessed’s Chroma has affected the behavior of the vines, leading them to now show fondness towards their people.

As the city returns to some relative peace, some Moonblessed may notice that the Vinea vehementi grow nervous in the evenings. At times they mewl, soil the floors with their white pollen, or hide beneath the beds of the Moonblessed. They will also gather in colonies and wrap around the Moonblessed, enclosing them in spheres made of vines. The spheres will open once you moonlace with someone from outside or within, but the reason behind this behavior is unclear. It’s as if they’re trying to protect the Moonblessed from something...

By the third day, the warnings grow clear. The ground shakes violently, splitting streets open. From the jagged cracks emerges a beautiful humanoid woman taller than Lunatia’s highest skyscrapers, her body bare save for the few coiling snakes providing her some modesty. Her maniacal laughter can be heard all over the city as she begins to stomp on cars and knock buildings over hapless bystanders. Meanwhile, a crown-wearing boar gleefully dances on her shoulder:

Ainfeil, the Beast of Gluttony

Yes, crush them, sister! Crush them!! Make them pay for their insolence!

Aradana, the Beast of Greed

It seems you could only do so much with so little. A pity. Such a pity. I will have to finish what you started. The reckoning begins now!

A  Streaks of lightning will start to emerge from behind Aradana as she levels a good chunk of the city quickly. The Lunar Scientia will order a complete evacuation as they try and figure out how to contain the two Beasts. To minimize damages and casualties, the Moon Knights have issued an official emergency in order to evacuate all citizens and all Moonblessed to Level 1 as they activate the Caelus Tower’s full power barrier.

However, putting this shield on will cost a highly taxing amount of Chroma, and the Moon Knights will suggest that all present Moonblessed to moonlace near the tower to supply it with more energy. As you make your way to the high tower, be sure to aid any injured fellow Moonblessed or Lunatians that might be trapped due to collapsing buildings and roads.

The two Beasts will continue destroying anything they see and will target any Moonblessed to attempt thwarting their efforts to put up the barrier. Fortunately, near Caelus Tower, fully-armed GIGA suits are available to use to repel the Beasts. They are armed with various highly destructive weapons you can imagine, perfect for taking down a titan such as Aradana.

This is a Message from the Emergency Broadcast Network
top

Amegahara is simultaneously visited by the Beast of Lust, the satyr Lunae, who plays her golden lyre to make sure inhabitants are too aroused to put up much of a fight as she starts to destroy their city.

Those within the vicinity of Amegahara can expect themselves to go into heat once they hear her play. Although the fox god Vulpus will do his best to try and hold her at bay, he will fail spectacularly and fall under her thrall.

At the same time, the Kingdom of Lyestellus is invaded by the Beast of Wrath, Basti, who enrages the mountains into volcanic eruptions and breaks the earth apart, sending the resident dragons fleeing away. The Dragon Mother, Lyestella, will quickly engage in a skyward battle with Basti to slow him down, granting those in Lyestellus just enough time to escape.

Basti’s immeasurable ferocity and fury has an effect on those who hear his thunderous roars, causing them to enrage to the point where their bodies will burst into angry red flames and their boiling mood will reach its worst state possible. The flames won’t do any harm to those engulfed, but no one will be able to get close or touch the affected.

Calanthe will find its temperatures dropping to sub-zero, rapidly encasing all the sea creatures in impenetrable ice. The ice quickly spreads toward Lunatia and freezes everything in its path, only slowed down by Queen Tempeste’s interference as she grapples with a basilisk, the Beast of Envy, Nakash.

Nakash not only throws javelins of ice but possesses an overwhelming stare that causes the Moonblessed to covet anything precious and commit pillaging during mid-battle. Regardless whether or not the victims could see it, Nakash’s piercing gaze can still affect anyone in close range and send noticeable chills through their body.

B  Large-scale evacuations facilitated by the Lunar Scientia encourage everyone to get on the nearest ship and head to their stronghold on the Iris moon. All Moonblessed and Lunatians will be stuffed like sardines into as many ships as they can gather, forced to ride in one another’s laps and hold on for dear life. Better buckle up and prepare for a bumpy ride as they will be doing their best to ferry whoever they can out of the cities. The in-flight movie for this journey will include the panicked screams of those across the planet, as news broadcasters continue to report 24/7 on the catastrophe down below, many people calling it the Second Cataclysm. Also Backdoor Slugs 9 will be playing on Channel 5.

Once the survivors reach the Iris Moon, they can expect to stay in the research facility’s capsule hotels while the more proactive Moonblessed and the Lunar Scientia can begin strategizing on how to save the planet. A full range of medical facilities and accessible supplies are available on the moon base. The Moon Knights welcome any volunteers willing to safeguard and/or treat people. There are space shuttles available for any possible rescue missions, but the Moon Knights recommend traveling in smaller groups to more easily track down anyone should anything go wrong.

Those who did not make it to a ship in time or chose to stay on Prismatica find themselves in the clutches of the Beast of Sloth, Aracht.

He casts a powerful sleep spell on the remaining Lunatians and Moon Knights, making them victims of their own nightmares. With them out of the way, he starts smashing through the remaining ships and wrecks the loading docks, making it impossible for ships to embark or disembark.

C  At this point, the only recourse for escape will be through the sewers. Fortunately, the Vinea vehementi can help. They can open large holes to the underground and allow the remaining people to climb down their vines safely to the tunnels below. They use their vines to move around debris and seal the entrances for them, leading everyone to safety.

A few encampments are already set up by the Dreamweavers and the Prismaticans who have tried to make any environment hospitable enough for humans and all other walks of life. There are flowers and patches of grass growing all along the walls as well as a few tents. Through magic, these little fairies will be handing out some cakes, hot chocolate, and other warmed sweets that the survivors can enjoy as they’re all encouraged to share the tents. The Prismals will be handing out blankets and extra clothes as well as LIFE suits just in case. The Moonblessed will be assured that they will remain safe for now as the Dreamweavers plan to keep them hidden from pursuit with their magic. They will also be doing their best to help heal the wounded and singing soothing tunes to try and put the refugees at ease.

Guess Who’s Back, Back Again
top

The other six Beasts of the Calamity awaken the final Beast of Pride, the Seraphim Majestas. He has removed his lion head to reveal a beautiful human face. He calls upon everyone to worship him. Fear him.

From his crystal throne overlooking all of Lunatia, Majestas summons prismatic rainbows, shining blinding colors on the city’s remaining inhabitants. Its incredible power can also cause nearby bodies to experience paralysis or other bodily abnormalities imaginable.

D  Prismatic shards rain all over Prismatica as Majestas drains the planet of Chroma to power himself. Everything is shrouded in darkness save for the light emitted from the crystals. Eventually, characters will feel themselves weakening considerably and unable to use their powers. Any Moonblessed in danger will prompt nearby Prismaticans to throw themselves to save them, saying they must live on.

Anything hit by these prismatic shards will experience an immense Chroma loss and/or indescribable pain will start agonizing their mind and bodies. Immediately remove these shards without direct contact to prevent the worst case scenario. Some resilient Prismals and Moon Knights who are affected will end up helplessly thralled by Majestas, causing them to attack their own including the Moonblessed. Beware: most of them are armed and will not hesitate to strike!

All hope seems lost until the three deities, Iris, Cordis, and Sanguis finally make their appearance. Altogether, they will weave a tale of old to all the Moonblessed regardless of distance, telling them what once was... the origin of the Beasts of the Calamity.

Iris, Cordis, and Sanguis

Long ago, our children, the Oracles of the Sinless only had seven members who we had given the gift of clairvoyance. With it, they foresaw the coming of a great apocalypse and wanted power to defeat the abhorrent beasts who would cause it. They asked their fellow Lunatians to give them their Chroma to fend off this apocalypse. However, they absorbed too much Chroma from their brethren and lost control after failing to contain the collected power.

They fought against unspeakable suffering for days and days, but in the end, gave into the pain and it warped them into monsters. The old clans tried to stop them with our guidance, but ultimately failed as the Beasts grew too powerful and became enraged. The Sinless became the sinful and destroyed the world, consuming so much of its Chroma to the point of crystallization.

The remaining Lunatians had no choice but to flee to our gardens in the moon until the Beasts eventually weakened without a source for Chroma. The remaining gods were sealed away by the Ancient Lunatians who feared they might lose control next: Tempeste in the moon, Vulpus in the stars, and Lyestella in the earth. In response, we barricaded ourselves in our moon domains so we could continue to grant our blessings from afar.

This evening, we continue to protect this planet and its people. With your continued help, we may stand a chance to finally end the suffering once and for all.

Iris will call upon the power of the three and awaken all the moonblessings at once. Every single Moonblessed will receive a substantial power growth or transformation as they are set upon the Beasts of the Calamity.

Several mecha suits and aerial battleships piloted by both the Moonblessed and the Prismals will be launched from the Iris moon base, bringing everyone together on the planet Prismatica as the dragons start to weave through the skies and unleash their magic to clear a path for them.

The foxes will then be snapped out of their trance and start augmenting everyone’s power and Chroma output through their dances. The krakens will also break free from their ice and give all the ground robots and transportation vehicles a much-needed recharge through their electrical currents while the Prismals on the planet will suit up and join the fray. One final battle will be waged between everyone and the Seven Beasts.

... And I Feel Fine
top

Along with Lunatia and the three nations, the gifts of the three gods enable all of the Moonblessed to overpower the beasts with their strength and sheer numbers. As the Beasts of the Calamity are defeated and wither away, they thank the Moonblessed for finally allowing them to be free at last. The Beasts are gone. The planet is restored. Stunning waves of color — Chroma accumulated through centuries — is released and begins to overflow.

In an instant, the crystallization is swept away all throughout the planet, waves giving life back to the verdant forests, diverse fauna, beautiful oceans, and majestic snow-capped mountains. As the three nations set out to celebrate their victory with the Moonblessed, a few will be bidding their final adieu and heartfelt appreciations. The Queen of Lunatia gives each of the Moonblessed a hug, and so does Fahrouk, who sobs uncontrollably into their shoulders. Every Prismal can’t stop thanking every single Moonblessed even through their tears and injuries.

E  Now that their beloved planet is saved, the three deities open a large portal which enables the Moonblessed to travel between their world and Prismatica. Those who choose to stay may remain for as long as they desire and help colonize the newly revealed continents. Those who return to their world are assured that they will keep their memories of Prismatica, and connect with those that possess said prisms. They are also given a small prism that allows them to open a portal to Prismatica should they ever decide to visit.

Some of the Moonblessed may wish to enjoy the celebratory festivities, engage in some parting revelry, and maybe give a confession or three. Others will likely jump at the chance to return to normalcy. The Prismaticans will certainly miss them, and many will be sending the Moonblessed off with tearful hugs, food, and crafts they have made for them. Many will also continue to make and trade bromides with your face on it.

Cherish their gifts and remember them fondly, Moonblessed! They enjoyed having every single one of you here and will tell tales of your bravery for years to come.

I don't want to wake her up, but... she's so cute.

[Waking up a sleeping baby is a Crime, so he won't. But he will reach down and pet her little ears, which twitch in her sleep. Given hers are natural -- she only has the two.]

We're gonna spoil her rotten, huh.

We still have to introduce Watty to his little sister!

[Watson appears on his shoulder as he becomes visible again. There's a very serious nod, followed by a hushed "Shhhshshshhhshh" before he hops off his shoulder and glides down the edge of the hospital crib, peering down at her.]

["Sister..." Another serious nod, and then he looks back up at Tiger, speaking in a loud whisper. Akiko is undisturbed. "Watty's sister is cute and small! Just like Watty!"]

[Meanwhile, while this is going on, Ranpo has a 2 minute heart attack in which he can't seem to get Watson to come out of the sphere, before his brain kicks in and he calmly walks back inside the room like nothing happened at all, nope, this was totally planned.]

I told you he could be quiet.

[He's not being very loud, but then, babies don't tend to sleep through the night when they're this small. Akiko's little face scrunches up, as she blinks open her eyes.]

[But she doesn't start crying. Oh no. She's not a human baby, after all. And baby prismals have two sets of vocalizations. Human-like coos and cries, and--]

[Whatever the hell this is?? It trails off into a more human-like cry after that, but that's some wake-up call.]

Ahh. They're both loud.

[And here's where Ranpo reveals the true best use of his deduction skills--]

Ahh, looks like she's hungry. The nurse left a bottle in here for when she woke up. [Which they were not told about -- Ranpo is just Ranpo, and knows exactly where it is.] Wanna hold her while I hold the bottle? Then we can both be holding her!
