The director describes her as, "I thought of shrine maidens as an intermediary between life and death, so Yuuri had to be someone who was drifting in the rift between life and death - between being alive and dead - and if she took a single step she would have to go one way or the other. We were particularly careful to give her a look in her eyes that made you feel how in the middle she is. Eyes that look like she could go somewhere far away; eyes that look as though she could be called to by death at any moment. Grief-stricken eyes at the reality of eventually dying alone.
I also wanted Yuuri's gaze to look as though she's a moment away from crying. I thought the gaze would be properly persuasive of the contradiction that whilst captivated by death she tries to save people; the contradiction that she is introverted but active."
Essentially she's a kind, sad girl with the ability to see spirits, read minds, and see peoples' memories who got this power thanks to a traumatic accidentally shortly before the start of the game. She's scared of her abilities and wishes she were normal, to the point that she wants to die because everyone around her was convinced she was just suffering PTSD and all from the accident so they refused to believe her or help her. She can't say no to anyone in need so she suffers from severe Protagonist Syndrome of trying to help everyone even if she shouldn't.

The younger of a pair of twins born to the Kurosawa family, which presided over the village's festival. She fled the village with her sister, Yae, in an attempt to escape from the fate of twins in the Crimson Sacrifice Ritual, but fell from the mountain path and was captured by the villagers. In a desperate attempt to avert disaster, the villagers hung Sae by the neck with shimenawa. Her corpse was thrown into the Hellish Abyss as a lone sacrifice, but became a vengeful spirit with the occurring of the Repentance, and massacred the villagers, filling the town with the sound of her maniacal laughter.
She's a young girl who was going to be forced to participate in a ritual that involved her older twin strangling and killing her so they could "become one" and the combined strength of their power could seal the gates to hell for a little while. It didn't work since she had to do it by herself, but she held out hope that Yae would come rescue her in the end...
She cursed the village so that any pair that ends up stumbling across the village gets trapped there and forced to do the ritual until a pair of twins come to do it properly.
But she's lonely and hurt and used to be rather kind and outgoing, so it'd be nice to see if she can work through that and become someone "normal" again or at least get some help for her crazy... But she's gotta cool white funeral kimono covered in blood (splattered in the shape of a butterfly wing!) and a permanent rope burn/scar around her throat and she's kind of obsessed with siblings so. Idk!! I've never played her before so it'd be an interesting challenge.
