Tales from the Crypt
Moon Iris | top

You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Even the few shy moon creatures you find in the wild have strange crystal growths on their hides. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers yields nothing but an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

After a day or two of living off the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. After the strange phenomenon during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why did I eat those fifty cent street truck tacos last night? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay.

While waiting for transport to be prepared, you may freely roam around the government center. Alternatively, you can ask the staff about the moon base. They suggest that you visit one of their excavation sites nearby: an enormous hole known as the Glory. The scientists have been excavating this site carefully for years, searching for a legendary ancient tomb sleeping within. They’re accepting volunteers if anyone is inclined to aid in their efforts. Perhaps the Moonblessed have the knowledge they need to make it a success!

A ⬤ A chroma-powered lift made of magically fortified crystal is used to access the lower grounds. Be careful not to fall off! On the way down, some translucent caterpillars and crystals light your way. Be quiet and keep an eye out for Queen Bowie beetles: these glowing neon bugs are attracted to music, and a single note will send them flying into your clothes and hair. Putting the beetles under pressure is not advised, as they will explode and send their sticky insides flying throughout the airspace, potentially stinging your eyes. This will make moving around in dark, cramped spaces all the more difficult! Thankfully, they get bored if no one tries to sing for one whole minute.

B ⬤ Scientists, engineers, miners, and archeologists are at the unearthed antechambers, hard at work. They will assign you to different tasks: recording observations and taking down notes, digging with advanced excavation tools, or collecting fragile relics with metal and crystal detectors. The Moonblessed may also assist with solving riddles the ancients left in the tomb’s doors, chests and walls. Solving them may lead to either treasure rooms or trap walls that close in on unsuspecting grave robbers. Others, well...

Golden jellyfish statues line the walls, encrusted with glistening jewels all over, some worse for wear. Tall pillars have numerous ancient runes which the Prismals are struggling to decipher. Soon, an eerie whisper reaches your mind: “Wander no further. A curse awaits all who enter our kingdom. Disturb not those who slumber in the deep.” True enough, the floor from this point onward appears to be blue sand combed in the pattern of ocean waves... Are you brave enough to continue drilling through?

C ⬤ If that is not enough to send you scrambling out with moist underwear, perhaps the seismic jolt to the ground will. A slimy substance begins to ooze out the tomb’s cracks, glowing lilac like the Iris moon... The Prismals are quick to usher everyone out before the shaking gets worse. As the lift may be too dangerous, climbing equipment will be provided. Watch out for falling debris or collapsing rocks while assisting each other out of cramped passages and up the walls to safety. Try not to get stuck in the slime!

This little adventure might leaving you wondering what or who exactly lies deeper inside, but the Prismals are just as clueless as you are. Cave-ins happen from time to time, but this might have been the strongest one recorded on this site.

Eventually you’re called to the docks and led onto a large transport vessel. Destination: Prismatica.

Those Kicks were Fast as Lightning
Higher Lunatia, Level 1 | top

Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated.

With the end of Harvest Boon, the city is calm once more. The streets of Level 1 and 2 are now sparkling clean as always, but Level 3 is still in the process of cleaning up. There are confetti and deflated balloons strewn all over the streets, but Swiffy bots are on the scene, sweeping up whatever waste they can get their hands on. Sometimes, they might even play tug-of-war with you for it. At one of the train stations, a Prismal doomsayer screams about the apocalypse returning. Passersby shrug at the conspiracy theory and move on.

A ⬤ In response to the unexpected rough events during Harvest Boon, the Moon Knights decided to hold free-for-all self-defense seminars at a large park near Lunatia Square. The live demonstrations include proper monster-wrangling procedures and how to efficiently keep a rogue moonheld (read: transformed under the moon) Prismal away. Participants are encouraged to learn and interact with each other to learn various safety practices and techniques. The training visors provided enhance the seminar experience, changing whoever your eyes focus on into a cerberus or other rogue moonheld Prismal on the visor’s display. Don’t use the visors for too long, or you’ll be seeing everyone as a cerberus well after you take the visors off! Fortunately, the effects only last for an hour. Energy drinks and free snacks are available to any worn-out Prismal or Moonblessed.

B ⬤ Virtual lunar conditions are also available via multiplayer VR pods in Lunar Scientia headquarters, simulating the Moonblessed/moonheld experience under full moons. Mental exercises and magic practice sessions are accessible in the virtual spaces, allowing people to test out their magical abilities and transformations. Simulation participants can either train by themselves, with a partner, or through a tutorial of instruction-based movements. However, the program is still in beta. You may experience errors or bugs like lagging, NPCs phasing into things they shouldn’t, weird physics, or body glitches.

Meas Trees are the Bee’s Knees
Middle Lunatia, Level 2 | top

The rows of Meas trees planted this Harvest Boon are blossoming beautifully into view, painting the fields in Level 2 with colors of spring. Meas tree saplings each have a small sign next to them, displaying their owners’ written wish if they chose to disclose it. Interestingly, the color and aroma of each flower depends on the owners; fiery personalities might have red or orange flowers, those born in a coastal town might have flowers that smell like the sea near their hometown, and so on. Maybe you’ll encounter a familiar aroma if you’re lucky enough.

The Moonblessed who were most active with moonlacing the past few weeks have the largest trees, nearly rivaling the oldest Meas trees around. The older trees planted by Prismals over time can be seen in the next field, standing majestically with their swaying branches and flying petals.

A ⬤ Picnic grounds for flower viewings can be found near the fields. There are plenty of stalls selling homemade bruschettas, crostinis, sandwiches, wines, cheeses, and other enjoyable finger food. Notably, some wines may give you an insatiable desire to whisper things in someone’s ear. Sweet nothings, death threats, your secret kinks—no matter the words, you’ll want to kill someone softly with them.

B ⬤ The Swiffy bots that are assigned to the parks and gardens in Level 2 help keep things spick and span, but they’re due for maintenance and may attempt to sweep off any unfortunate picnics with their high-powered vacuums or leaf blowers. As they zoom across the paths, they chirrup about not treading on the grass and take off with picnic blankets, table cloths, and people’s clothes. Any nearby maintenance staff (who are all desperately trying to chase the bots) yell that a conk on the head will immobilize them. Once the malfunctioning bots are stopped, the staff approach to wheel them away while apologising profusely for the mayhem.

Reynardo || Stories: Path of Destinies

TALES FROM THE CRYPT

B ⬤ What was it about scientists? They always used big confusing words, demanded you do things for them, always wanted to research things, and never said anything cool. Reynardo was not the kind of fox to take notes for someone or use some fancy equipment to dig a hole. He wasn't a ditch digger! He was a pirate, a hero, and a treasure hunter. He left the scientists and their requests behind and walked deeper into the crypt. His gut told him he could find whatever secrets this crypt had in store without the scientists and their strange fancy things. Maybe he could even find a portal home.

Reynardo walked through the crypt until he came to the blue wavy sand and heard the voice. The fox froze in place with one wide eye. It couldn't be, could it? No. The voice was different. It was not the Iblis Stone. That was gone. He'd made sure of it. It was destroyed. This was some other spooky ghost voice whispering to him in his head. Reynardo hated it when voices tried to get inside his head.

"Shove off," He told the ghostly whisper. "My mind is supposed to be quiet. If I wake something up, I'll put it back to sleep." Yeah. That was the right answer. Reynardo stepped onto the sand and kept moving. If a voice was telling him to go back, this had to be the right way. Nice try, crypt. You weren't going to fool this fox that easily.

THOSE KICKS WERE FAST AS LIGHTNING

A ⬤ The crypt had been a bust. It had at least been exciting while he was there. Now he was in this dazzling city bigger and stranger than any city he had ever seen. Following the people to these self defense seminars as they were called. Reynardo was reminded of Sword-Fu school. Teachers helping students learn to fight and defend themselves. Then again, this seemed a bit nicer. There wasn't any homework, chores, and no flat mattresses you had to sleep on for years. Still, he liked Sword-Fu school. It helped him learn to be a great warrior and a great warrior he was. Why shouldn't he help teach the people how to fight? He had a lot to offer. He'd almost never been bested in battle.

Almost. Zenobia wasn't here so he could very well be one of the best in the city! Reynardo made his way toward the people training, sword drawn.

"Who here wants to learn Sword-Fu from a hero?" He asked with a brilliant smile. At least, he thought it was brilliant. Maybe cocksure to others who didn't know him...and those who knew him too.

MEAS TREES ARE THE BEE’S KNEES

B ⬤ The day was supposed to be ending nicely. A picnic with free food, the best kind. He even had wine! What could go wrong? How about some strange metal contraption coming up to him, yelling at him to get off the grass, stealing his blanket, stealing his food, spilling the wine, and stealing his jacket! The nerv! Reynardo gave chase of the dastardly villain. He heard the cries of the strange prismals chasing after the horrible metal things. A whack on the head was their weakness? Oh that was too easy.

Reynardo dashed up on the thief and brought the flat side of his sword down on the thing's head. The metal contraption fell indeed. Reynardo took back his jacket and gave the thing a good few kicks before the maintenance worker came running over. He took the metal thing and apologized but asked Reynardo to not kick them again. The fox was having none of that.

"It stole my jacket!" Reynardo exclaimed. "I'm going to stop them before they ruin anyone else's picnics." Reynardo dashed around the park. He slammed his sword down on the Swiffy bots, stunning them. He didn't care if they were doing their jobs or not. It was time to stop these stupid things. They'd spilled his wine. That was practically a crime. They clearly needed to all be stopped.

THOSE SWORD SWINGS WERE FAST AS LIGHTNING

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-10 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Paulo had seen all the people training and had walked closer hoping to get a peek at some sweaty babes but when he heard someone offering "Sword fu" lessons he figured it couldn't hurt to check it out.

"Sword Fu lessons huh?" Paulo asked looking up at Reynardo. "How do I know you're really a hero?"
alwaysfollowshisgut: (But the joke is on him I have more)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-10 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
A small cat kid walked up to him. Almost like a kit from the looks of his coloring. The question didn't make Reynardo angry though. The kid was just being honest. How could he be mad at that? He drew his broad hero sword and gave it a flip. The shining green blade caught the light of the sun as the fox caught the handle easily.

"I don't have a license but the number of fair maidens I've saved could tell you all about it. It's the eye patch, isn't it? I was a pirate for a while before I became a hero. So I get it. Trust me though. If you want to learn to fight like a hero, I'm your fox."
anothershoulder: (Nom and Smile)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-10 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Paulo looked wary, his eyes glancing over to the other lessons. Well what were the odds of this guy attacking anyone in front of others? As long as this so-called fox didn't try to lead him to somewhere alone it should be fine, also he may have been tempted by the mention of fair maidens

"Okay, so how do I learn Sword-fu Mr...?"
alwaysfollowshisgut: (Like soft fur)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-10 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Reynardo's the name. What's yours, kid?" The fox asked. The hero moved to grab two of the practice swords provided by the White Knights. He brought both over and made sure to hold out the lighter sword.

"It's easy. We start training. We'll go through the motions my old master made me go through. He was a rough old man but he taught a lot. So take the sword and show me how you'd hold it."
anothershoulder: (OW WTF MIKE)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-10 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Paulo." He answered taking the sword, feeling the weight of it and since it was a blunt practice sword he bounced it in his hand but when he tried to regain his grip on the sword he grabbed it wrong and it flipped, almost smacking himself in the face.

"Ack... uh... Not like that." Paulo said as he regained a proper grip on the handle and mimicked how he saw heroes on TV hold a sword, although he was holding it too tightly now.
alwaysfollowshisgut: (Happy pirates)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-10 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Reynardo laughed heartily when Paulo smacked himself in the face. He watched Paulo recover and it decent. At least he wasn't bleeding from his nose.

"Nice to meet you, Paulo. Now kid, don't be embarrassed. I did that in front of the girl I love once," Reynardo said. He remembered doing that in front of Zenobia during their first year of Sword-Fu school. She hadn't laughed but she smiled. The fox walked over and looked at the stance.

"How comfortable is it to stand like that? Think you could hold it for a while?"
anothershoulder: (Smile and wave)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-10 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Heh, did she smack you over the head for it? I know a few girls who would." Paulo asked sifting his grip on the handle a bit.

"And yeah, I think I can hold it like this for a bit"
alwaysfollowshisgut: (But the joke is on him I have more)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-10 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fortunately, no." Zenobia wasn't the type. She would hit him with a spell maybe but he wouldn't bring that up.

"Okay. Hold it for five minutes. Don't move. If you can last, then we move on." Reynardo said with a smirk. He sat down on the ground and waited.
anothershoulder: (¬_¬)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-11 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh Okay." Paulo held the pose and was fidgeting after the thirty-second mark, but solely due to a lack of attention. It was one hundred and twenty seconds before he took one hand off the hilt of the practice sword, shaking it out. The blade lowered until it pointed to the ground as he gave up on the pose entirely with a sigh.

"Okay...I'm guessing the fact my fingers went numb means I was holding it wrong?"
alwaysfollowshisgut: (God you are basic.)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-11 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's a good first hint. The other thing is you couldn't stand still. Your stance is important. It's what you return to whenever you aren't fighting. It needs to be easy to hold for a while. You were too tense and holding the sword too tightly," Reynardo said. It was odd being the teacher and not the student for once. The fox stood up and drew his own practice sword. He stood up straight, sword at his side, and relaxed.

"Like this. Nothing fancy. Sword held light in my fingers. But I'm ready. Try to hit me."
anothershoulder: (HEY!)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-11 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Paulo tossed the sword hand to hand while looking at Reynardo's pose he mimicked it for a second before swinging his practice sword with a sideways swipe.

"Ahhh!" Paulo yelled, hey it worked for game characters right?
alwaysfollowshisgut: (Like soft fur)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-11 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a valiant effort. Paulo did a good job copying his stance but then came the swing. It was loud, obvious, and the cry was unneeded. Reynardo liked this kid. Remind him of himself when he was a kit.

There was potential here.

Reynardo blocked the strike easily. He countered with a flick of his wrist, knocking Paulo's swing way off course, and slammed the flat of his wooden blade into Paulo's chest to push him back.
anothershoulder: (WTFFFFFF)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-11 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Paulo let out a confused gasp as his swing went way off course and he was left overbalanced, then came the blow to his chest and he had to take a few steps back to recover, but he stayed on his feet.

He frowned.

"Okay, so do I keep trying or do I wait for you to tell me what I did wrong?"
alwaysfollowshisgut: (A hero in this moment)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-11 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Let me ask you first. What do you think you did wrong?" Reynardo asked. The kid was a novice but he was drawing inspiration from somewhere. Might as well ask and see what Paulo saw in himself before he gave his own critique.
anothershoulder: (WTFFFFFF)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-11 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess the yell was kinda pointless," Paulo said, now resting the sword on his shoulder like a baseball bat his other hand resting on his hip as he thought.

He was naturally mimicking movie and video game sword fighters with their big flashing swings that were all show and little substance, not that Paulo understood that, he could only come up with one problem by himself.

"Was I too slow?"
alwaysfollowshisgut: (Thanks to a stupid clingy rock)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-11 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"A little slow, yeah. And the yell was pointless. Here's the thing. I can tell what you're doing isn't coming from you. It's not original. Sword-Fu is about technique and stuff but really it's about you being you. You're gonna fight how you fight best. Not like me or Zenobia or Lapino or someone else. It's all about you," Reynardo found speaking like this easy. Was this how the old man felt talking to him? At least Reynardo wasn't yelling and hitting Paulo on the head whenever his eyes wondered or he yawned.

"Try again but be you. Show me how you move."
anothershoulder: (HEY!)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-11 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"You might regret saying that, I'm not exactly good at winning fights."

He had barely stopped speaking before running at Raynardo again, much faster this time and he swung the sword in a smaller arc, lower too, as if aiming for the gut instead of the chest.
alwaysfollowshisgut: (But the joke is on him I have more)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-11 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Reynardo was about to respond but then the cat was moving and he was moving fast. He saw the hit coming but it was less obvious. The fox moved fast and blocked the hit again. He felt the sword shake but he just grinned down at the cat.

"Much better. Didn't that feel better too? Less stiff and more relaxed?" Reynardo asked.
anothershoulder: (Nom and Smile)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-11 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wow, yeah." Paulo looked down at his sword. "I didn't almost fall over either..."

Now he looked up at Rynardo sheepish.

"You're not mad I didn't give you a chance to brace yourself?"
alwaysfollowshisgut: (Happy pirates)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-11 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Important lesson," Reynardo said before suddenly pulling his sword away and brought it down fast. It stopped mere millimeters from Paulo's head.

You never know where or when someone is going to fight you. So don't be predicable either. You've got potential, Paulo. Maybe one day you'll be half as good as me," He said in a teasing tone.
anothershoulder: (Happy Happy)

[personal profile] anothershoulder 2019-05-11 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The practice sword may have stopped millimeters from where Paulo was but he wasn't there anymore. If there was one thing all the terrible PE lessons had done for him was it had made him very good at dodging.

"You really think I got potential?" He asked hopefully.

Meas Trees~

[personal profile] luckyrabbitsdeck 2019-05-14 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey! Those cards aren't your lunch!"

There was a voice that Reynardo knew well. Maybe better than he wanted to right now. If the fox looked, he'd see a familiar white rabbit hopping quickly after another Swiffybot while three others took the opportunity to clean up his picnic lunch. Lapino didn't notice that though as he practically tackled the offending robot and gave it a sound blow to stun it. The maintenance worker came running and apologized, and after a moment of tinkering the rabbit had his prized cards back.

Lapino brightened immediately, taking a moment to ensure that every card was accounted for. "Nah, it's no harm done. I got my stuff back and there's not a scratch on me! Good thing too, since my old war wound's not left me in the best form you know."
alwaysfollowshisgut: (Happy pirates)

[personal profile] alwaysfollowshisgut 2019-05-17 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
The voice reached Reynardo's ear and he almost froze. He knew that voice. It was a voice he had firmly in his memory. Lapino was here! His oldest friend and the traitor to the rebellion. Also the lynchpin in his plans to destroy the Emperor. It worked too. The only question was; did Lapino figure it out?

The fox didn't know when to stay away. He could have left and thought this through. Maybe found a way to determine the situation. But when did Reynardo ever do that? No. He followed his gut and did what it told him. Doing that kind of long term work was for someone like...well like Lapino.

The fox walked right up behind his friend and spoke.

"Good to see you, old friend," The fox said with a smile. Here went nothing.
luckyrabbitsdeck: (pic#12189531)

[personal profile] luckyrabbitsdeck 2019-05-17 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That voice was enough to almost make Lapino bristle. God, he hadn't wanted to run into him. But he turned with a wide grin. "Reynardo!" he exclaimed, falling back on old habits. "It's been so long, buddy! I was beginning to think you might have actually gone down in the final battle."

Wishful thinking, he knew. After all, as stupid as Reynardo usually was, it seemed a bit convenient that the Emperor happened to blow himself up while his daughter and the fox who loved her had just vanished. And even more convenient that he'd been trusted to go get the shiny weapons that could kill the Emperor. He couldn't prove it though and he didn't want to risk anything, so he'd just play it like always.
