Y'all, I'm bad at being brief so bear with me a second here. I'm also unsure if this month, but look. /fingers to eyes

Character: Setsura Yamaguchi
Canon: Original

A seventy-three year old preternatural mercenary night sparrow hanyou who hails from an Earth where preternatural everything is a thing despite that the majority of humanity has lost their ability to sense and perceive it, Sets eventually settled into a 'regular' job working as a manager, security, and bodyguard for a retired god who owns and operates the Hidden Moon Tea House after contracting with him for some years starting in '69. As of 2019, she stands as the foremost leading power that's kept the tea house running and everything and everyone about it from catching fire for the past fifty years and counting with a reputation between her organizations throughout Japan for all the good that'll do her here.

Setsura is the leading adult and chaos temperer of her crew(s), for whom she tempers and restrains herself despite selfish inclination and mercenary, off-beat thinking given her upbringing as anything but a civilian nine-to-fiver. She’s a mamabird perpetually existing in both the human and preternatural worlds with a complicated relationship between them who's living and learning what it is to be a conditionally immortal being with a human heart at the turn of her first human lifetime. When she’s not managing the tea house and cutting down youkai and lesser gods who want to eat her retired god boss to gain his power, she enjoys watching the shikigami eyeball tele, engaging in skinship, napping, eating peanuts, music, training, and competitive shit talking to name a few things. A tenacious rising type, she’s a lot of harnessed energy that typically presents as watchful, calm, serious, pointedly expressive, casual, tinged pleasant, affectionate, and prone to teasing on a good day whilst simultaneously being a selfish-tempered-by-love-but-still-selfish type, quietly proud until you’ve stepped on that pride, so strongly materialistic that she's perpetually Earth bound, pretty damned reckless on her lonesome, concerningly quirky in some very specific flavors, and irreverent to the point of putting godly fuckbois in the corner as needed.

As she’d likely be coming immediately preceding a significant death anniversary, I think she could stand to use some of those vacation hours that have rolled over for like fifty years and what better place to do that than on an alien planet with a bunch of magic furries? She won’t agree with that, but ngl, I’m curious to see how she’ll do starting from scratch in a totally new setting cut off from from the bonds that motivate her with the opportunity to stretch her legs. Also probably my favorite of this bunch atm, can you tell?

Character: Líadan Ní Donnabháin
Canon: Original

Lí is a twenty-four year old Nemedian -- that is, a human progenitor capable of hearing the audio fabric of reality and casting magic by weaving their own music into it -- who hails from a fantastical, tougher than our average reality, and a notably younger world. No, seriously, her clan is just now settling up with an old enemy and shooting to the end of their Bronze Age in one go as they learn how to work metals from the deep places basically from giants. This girl here is one of two people instrumental in settling up with the aforementioned, a pretty good warrior if her part in certain campaigns is anything to go by, and the curious, passionate pioneer who's going to basically get her world's version of alchemical medicine going. She's a generally good-natured, brave, energetic doer, curious, confident, earnest enough to make a trader blush, and a tad on the mischievous side while simultaneously being restless, rash, a tad short-sighted, and an easy read among other things. Culture + tech shock will be a thing.

Character: Ryoko Hakubi
Canon: Tenchi Muyo!

This girl definitely won't be this month as I'd like to touch base with a thorough canon review just to be 110%, but Ryoko’d be hailing specifically from the ongoing (yes, ongoing) OVA / Kajishimaverse continuity, which is the one with the actual goddesses plot lines, Light Hawk Wings on main, and the true royal harem business going with a healthy dose of space politics stirred in a pot of convoluted narrative bc Kajishima don't believe in spoon feeding anyone. Some of you may remember her from your youths as that crass, lewd, unabashedly forward, vulgar, semi-reformed space pirate always fiending after Tenchi's heart among other things. I'm here to tell you she's a little worse subbed and without that sweet dubbed 90's censorship and I'm here to deliver with a lot of warning for spoilers in her stuff ig since this canon is a mess re: release and we're expecting OVA 5 at some point in the near future for real.


For your sanity and livelihood, just tell her no.
