okay so to answer your question OOCly

A lich is an undead mage, almost always a powerful mage, that undertook a ritual (usually a pretty gruesome one) to separate their souls from their bodies and stick it in an artifact of some sort, which is called a phylactery

if you know Harry Potter, it's a horcrux, basically

notably liches are one of the few undead who are undead because they chose to be, and one of the only physical undead that still have their souls

But they're also fucking spooky

Oooh Okay! I was wondering I know Lich can be different in different books and movies so I wanted to make sure!

yeah it's cool, I went with the traditional lore for D&D 1e through I think 3.5: other media and later editions change shit but I was all nah
