Everything is darkness except for dim lights sparkling in the distance, a faint gleam that greets you as you start to unfurl from your dormant state. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Throat parched and skin dry and aching, you grope your body in alarm to make sure your possessions are still in place. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers only rewards you with an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

Time moves strangely when you're trapped on a moon with no sun to guide you. Hours feel like days, and days feel like weeks. Travelling has rendered you weak and tired. Over a day has passed when a group of people find you worse for wear. Some are full of uncertainty and fear while some are full of curiosity and excitement. They claim that they are scientists from the planet Prismatica here to investigate the sudden appearances of rainbow crystals in the skies. That means you and the others they’ve located within the area. You are all a surprising find to them, and they are quick to load everyone in their transport vehicles for examination and questioning.
You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why are the pegasi so ill-tempered? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They do have questions on their own, so it’s only fair to trade. They tell you about their world as they poke and prod you, trying to understand what you are and how you came into their land. If they’re not trembling in fear, some of them may ask you odd and invasive questions in return, such as what the rate at which your body achieves thermoregulation is, how long your refractory period is, and if you would be willing to submit various kinds of body fluids to them. It's up to whether you wish to comply or protest.

You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.
A ⬤ As you traverse the near-barren landscape, you feel something sting your skin. It's small and subtle at first, then you finally catch sight of it: an elegant, crystalline mosquito buzzing around from the corner of your eye. However, a pest is still a pest. After a while, marks near your welts begin to form strange patterns on your skin, mimicking ancient runes. Each rune has with it a particular side-effect that may hinder you on your journey:✾ The Mark of the Enchanter: Hallucinations, hallucinations galore. Your character will see everything and anything their imagination can conjure and will have difficulty separating reality from fiction.
₪ The Mark of the Destroyer: Limbs start to cease their function, causing you to stumble or try and get around one-handed. Other certain body parts may be affected as well. Look at the bright side: you can stop worrying about jiggle physics and hiding your fear boner.
⍢ The Mark of the Sinner: Your hunger, your thirst, your fatigue and your desire are at an all-time high. Your impulses are rabid and uncontrollable. Maybe you experience only one of those symptoms. Maybe you experience them all. All you know is that you want relief now.
These effects will eventually clear up with a bit of accidental or purposeful physical contact with another person, making you wonder if there was anything wrong with you at all.
B ⬤ Hunger starts to gnaw at you vigorously. Perhaps you consider hunting the moon's creatures to sate your hunger. That's when you see it: a thick, meaty, juicy meal on legs. No, we're not talking about Alex Louis Armstrong. A wild silver-white pegasus runs across the purple landscape, its hair billowing in the wind as its hooves smack loudly against the ground. Try and shoot it, and you may find your efforts curtailed by its legendary rage. Eyes aglow and wings beating up a storm, this pegasus is no dainty horse. Two thousand pounds of pure muscle swoop down and charge at you, all blades and ammunition deflecting off its impenetrable skin. Taming appears impossible; it will buck anyone away and leave a sizable horn- or hoof-shaped hole in them for their efforts. Hunting it, however, should be easier. Relatively.
C ⬤ Or you may decide that you'd like to take a drink in the prismatic waters. A small pond can be found just a few miles away from where you first awoke, but gazing into it reflects what appears to be a window into your own world. You see the faces of loved ones or at least someone very close and familiar to you gathered around your prone body, shaking it frantically as though to try and rouse you, yet your image lies frozen and unresponsive, not even a whisper of life running through you. Did you die in your world? Is this your afterlife? The questions start to pile up along with the gnawing dread that you may never return home again.

Time moves strangely when you're trapped on a moon with no sun to guide you. Hours feel like days, and days feel like weeks. Travelling has rendered you weak and tired. Luckily, a few crystal formations in the shape of a cavern may offer you a small place refuge as you decide to nap. You notice a few artifacts left over from previous explorers.
D ⬤ A comm unit abandoned within the cavern will display the former owner's idol obsession. As you tap the buttons indiscriminately, a holographic screen will appear, and you will see a fabulous recorded concert featuring three bubbly young ladies in animal print, singing to you about something called Cordis, a cat, and a bag of gems. Does this make any sense to you? Probably not, but the beat is catchy. You may even find yourself tapping a foot along to it. Don’t worry. We know it’s plastic love.
E ⬤ There's a small cooler-like container of preserved powdered food bags labeled with only the word “Edible” that can be safely consumed. Although the powder tastes as bland as you’d expect, it’s oddly filling, sating either hunger or thirst. But who will be the first — and the bravest — to try eating them?
F ⬤ A strange, pointed instrument is among the effects found in the cavern. It's silver, long, and thin with a curved end and a light. When you grip it with warm hands, it seems to vibrate enthusiastically and comes in three settings indicated by a frowny face, a neutral face, and a happy face. What could it mean exactly? No one knows, but you can fiddle with it to your heart's desire. Just don't ask yourself where it's been before. You don't want to know.

G ⬤ If you react violently, you will be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. They came prepared, so have fun with that! In any case, conscious or not, you’ll be brought into one of the transport vehicles. If you choose to peacefully cooperate, you’ll be provided any necessary first aid and a refreshing drink to help you recuperate after the rough time you had for the past few days. Each transport vehicle has a few small rooms to rest in, but due to the limited space, you’ll have to snuggle up with someone else on that bunk bed. Unfortunately, the moonshine fruit the ship is also carrying in its cargo has an extremely sweet smell that’s been permeating through certain areas of the ventilation system… Taking a whiff of it may inebriate you for the rest of the trip.
H ⬤ It’s a bumpy ride as terrain vehicles draw over various crystal formations until you see a large dome-like structure up ahead. Within its confines lies the seat of the Prismatica's government, Prisma. It’s a bureaucratic wet dream: skyscrapers practically touch the upper surface of the dome, windows glimmer with a prismatic sheen as daylight hits them, and small ships can be seen flying to and from its spaceport. The scientists, members of the Lunar Scientia, usher you into their facilities for tests. Arrivals are likely to twitch, tremble, and panic as Lunar Scientia fellows take and broadcast every embarrassing, unfiltered detail about you — height, weight, age, strange odors, estimated frequency of sexual activity —- to one another. These scientists will ask you politely to undress, too, but understand if you don't want to. They're especially fascinated by the readings of pure Chroma inside you, whispering among one another excitedly about the possibility of the new arrivals being a new moon species. What should they call them? Moonborne? Moonblessed?
I ⬤ At long last, the questions and physical examinations are done. They’ve decided to call the arrivals as the Moonblessed. They’ll take you under their care until they understand more about you. You're allowed a very refreshing hot shower and a warm meal for your efforts. Don’t worry, the meal was imported from their planet. “Planet?” you might ask, but you won’t need to wonder for too long. The ships are preparing for their next destination: the nearby planet Prismatica, where you will be dwelling for the time being. You're free to explore the government center until then.

before he encountered hanzo in hanamura, he had not been sure on his path. he had taken master zenyatta's teachings to heart, but he had still not been decided on if he wanted revenge.
the secret was he'd made the decision with his blade to hanzo's throat, listening to his brother ask for death.
there is a deep, reverberating sigh from genji. ]
It is that very reason you think you deserve to die, that I want you to live.
[ he pauses, letting that sink in, before he continues. ]
I have forgiven you, Hanzo. We were young, and foolish, and yet I was given a second chance. It would be a mistake not to give you the same.
...I thought, for many years, that I had lost you too.
[ that the brother he so adored in his youth could turn his blade on him? it felt like its own kind of loss. ]
no subject
You do not understand.
[How could he understand?]
There is nothing I can do in this life to make things right.. [He feels guilty for what he did, and also for the fleeting thought that perhaps he's hurting as bad as he hurt Genji, but that wouldn't be a fair comparison. These are things meant to be discussed sober.]
You were always the soft one, brother. [Hanzo offers a bit of a smile, forcing it at first until it felt genuine. He glances around to make sure no one is looking their way before he allows himself to lean closer to him, hugging him close. Sober Hanzo would never show this much affection but drunk Hanzo missed his brother and didn't give a flying fuck.]
I have to vomit.
no subject
but then, hanzo hugs him. genji is surprised again, and he reaches up, holding his brother close. he has missed him, despite all the complicated anger between them. they had been divided before their fight, and this feels... like a step in the right direction.
even if hanzo informs him he needs to vomit a moment later. genji laughs, his shoulders shaking, and he pulls back. ]
I will hold your hair.
[ there is definitely a teasing tone in his voice at that, but he moves hanzo at least towards an alleyway and not the main road in order to do his business. ]
no subject
Just as Genji gets them into the alley he leans forward to throw up, eventually crouching lower to the ground, keeping his tipsy posture balanced with a hand against the wall of a nearby building.]
One of your friends is here as well. The omnic. Zenyatta.
[Hanzo stands once he's finished, spitting and wiping at his mouth with the back of his hand. He plans to shower and brush his teeth once he gets back, but for now it's the best he can do. He thinks of mentioning the comparative strength of the alcohol there to the sake from home, but decides that might not make much of a difference.]
no subject
of course, hanzo mentions his "friend", which gets genji tilting his head in surprise. ]
Master Zenyatta?
[ the surprise is clear in his voice. ]
That is not someone I would have expected to be brought here.
[ to put it... lightly? he knows that omnics are just as capable as feeling pleasure and pain as the rest of them are, but it has never seemed his path. ]
no subject
Why is that?
[Eventually he is pointing in the direction of his building, lingering outside for a bit to continue their conversation. Hanzo isn't sure whether it would be acceptable for him to invite Genji inside, so he is fine with enjoying the fresh air a bit longer while he sobers up.]
He is quite charming. [And immediately after.] For an omnic.
no subject
[ he puts it delicately enough - seemed like, because people could be quite different from how they seemed.
part of genji thinks he should urge hanzo into his apartment - but the stronger part of him wishes to keep talking. he also isn't sure if he'd be allowed inside, so he's fine staying outside.
the charming comment, however, gets him chuckling a little bit. ]
Charming and persistent. He is one of the reasons I was able to make peace with who I am now.
[ a bit of a needle for that omnic comment. ]
no subject
[Still, the Prismals must have seen something in him to bring the omnic here. Or, it's as they say, and everyone appeared there by chance alone. Even so, he has heard tales of omnics and humans in romantic relationships, so he knows these things aren't unheard of. But to him they are new concepts he must learn to accept.]
Yes, he does seem to have that sort of presence. Delicate yet persuasive...warm. [Hanzo has no other way to describe it. It was probably not appropriate to disclose to one's estranged brother that his master occasionally gave him the dokis, but here they are.]
After we met in Hanamura I decided to leave, for good. I had cut ties with our family long before, but part of me continued to be tied to the place where we grew up. I traveled around the world from place to place, doing jobs, taking contracts, anything to keep me occupied and away from home. I learned a lot about myself in that short amount of time. Things I never could have learned if I stayed.
It sounds ridiculous to say so out lout now, but I thank you for that.
[When his brother came to him warning of war and choosing sides, Hanzo had realized just how out of touch with things going on around the world he was from being so caught up in his own mind. Genji helped him to see that.]
no subject
He is indeed a kind man.
[ there will be words if u upset him hanzo.
but he doesn't focus on that so much as the thanks, the story of hanzo leaving hanamura and travelling the world. he had visually cut ties with their home - gone is the long hair, and he could not have imagined hanzo with such piercings before this. it is... almost nostalgic. but he likes how hanzo holds himself now, much better than before.
he reaches up again, squeezing hanzo's shoulder with his hand, gently. ]
I know how important Hanamura and our family was to you, so I am glad to hear that. I also like your new look.
[ a gentle tease, and he lowers his hand. ]
It is something I had to do too. After everything I did after our fight, I had to find my own place in the world as well. There is a part of me that is glad we did not cross paths before I had that time.
no subject
I was previously unaware that omnics could be monks, but I learned something new that day.
[Hanzo doesn't protest the contact, or the playful shots taken at his "new" appearance. Part of freeing himself from the shackles of his past involved trying new things, changing his appearance, trying to find something unique to him. Otherwise he would stand out, and that might attract the wrong sort of attention.]
Why is that?
hanzo pls brush ya teeth
[ genji can relate. he still dyes his hair, what little he has under the helmet, in neon shades of green when he gets the chance. it is something that is familiar and brings him comfort.
of course, hanzo asks why, and genji goes silent for a moment, glowing in the low light. ]
Before I had made peace within myself and forgiven you, I was troubled and turbulent... and violent. And I worked with a group that did its best to allow me to turn that violence at the correct targets.
[ he's not sure how much hanzo knows - of his time at overwatch, of what he did at blackwatch. he knows hanzo did not harm the guards at hanamura. he cannot say he ever afforded the same to his targets. ]
... You should wash up, brother.
okay fine jeez
I am sorry you had to go through these things because of the stupidity of my actions.
[He sighs, rubbing his hand over his face, eventually gesturing for Genji to come up.]
You can find those women you were chatting up before, or you're free to stay here as long as you would like. I was trying not to end our meeting over my need to wash filth from my skin--and mouth.
the only witty comment i've got is 'stank'
Mmm.
[ the reason he doesn't comment to the second apology much, or the comment of hanzo's stupidity, is it's both true but genji doesn't feel the need to belabor the point. it was not meant to dredge up guilt, merely explain part of his side.
after a moment. ]
There will be other women. You helped me plenty of times in my youth to clean up; I won't begrudge you the need to do the same.
[ or the chance to tease him about it. he follows hanzo up, at a respectful distance. ]
appropriate
Of course.
[Hanzo has to fight to not give him the same look he did when they were young and he would talk and focus mostly on people he's met and made plans with while Hanzo was the one doing father's bidding, and showing up for training on time. He sighs, leading the way up to his room and ultimately let Genji inside.
It's not decorated at all aside from his pow on one shelf long enough to hold it. If that could really be considered decorative. The empty bottles of alcohol though, those are just littered on every flat surface in his room, it seemed. Coming from someone who was meticulous about keeping a clean and orderly space, he was partially trying to save Genji from this sight--too late now, though.]
Make yourself at home. [He offers, already starting to undress on his way to the bathroom, shutting the door behind him once in the shower. A couple seconds later reaching out to grab his toothpaste and toothbrush.]
no subject
yes, the hanzo he knew before would not have left quite such a mess. it's a good thing to see, though; it indicates the getting drunk is less of an outlier and more of a habit. one that worries genji, but he intends not to comment on it for now.
the bow is what he choose to go examine, given the lack of any decorations. it's familiar - hanzo had always been good with the bow.
there's a faint rumble from inside him, the familiar sound of his dragon unhappy about the instrument. he mentally calms her and instead continues looking at it (without touching), checking on the modifications, if any, that have been made.
when hanzo exits, he'll reach for his mask, intending to put it back on - he doesn't want to subject his brother to this quite yet. ]
no subject
He takes a seat on the edge of his bed, looking at Genji secure the mask in place, missing the view of his brother's face beneath. Part of him is afraid to see it. He knows the state he left Genji in that day--it haunted his dreams regularly enough that he couldn't forget if he wanted.]
I must admit. I am at a loss of what to say.
[But eventually he takes a breath, looks over to his brother and speaks.]
I will make some tea. Would you like some?
no subject
hanzo speaks first, and he turns to look at hanzo. ]
I would. Thank you.
[ well, if he's unsure and hanzo's unsure.. maybe something that he is curious about. it could be safe, but just as dangerous. ]
After you... left Hanamura, where did your travels take you?
no subject
After Hanamura?
[He..figures those things are easy enough to talk about without things getting too heavy.]
It took me some time to leave, but once I did I took jobs all over. I spent time in India, Italy, South Africa, even Mexico for a little while. Some places longer than others, but nowhere long enough to get comfortable. It was just about work at first, but then I took less jobs to stay longer..enjoy myself. Perhaps I enjoyed myself too much.
[Hanzo lets out a bitter laugh, gesturing to the empty bottles around the room.]
no subject
You have gone through quite a bit. We all cope in different ways - though perhaps it is time to seek a different method.
[ it is... more careful than genji might have said in his youth. then again, young genji was just as prone to 'enjoying himself too much'.
still, after that choice comment. ]
Did you see how the world has changed since our family visited those places?
no subject
I did. It is as you said. The world is preparing for war. Again.
[Some places more overtly than others, but the tone is unmistakable. It's not a good direction to head it by any means, but it did provide plenty of job opportunities. Which also may not have been such a good choice, but you can take the assassin out of the clan but you cannot unlearn those things. It isn't as though he has very many qualifications for much else.]
There are so many who need or deserve protection. Some from their own governments. I worry for them, but that is the way it is, and how it has always been. I am unsure of how I could make any difference.
[Unless Genji was suggesting before that he join up with Overwatch--yes he did some research after their first reunion. But no--he's pretty sure he doesn't fit the image of do-gooder like the public information about them suggested. At any rate, they were shut down some time ago if he remembers correctly.]
me: head in hands using this anecdote
but while his own goal was to try with overwatch again, maybe, for hanzo that was a longer ideal.
instead, he shakes his head. ]
Surely you have heard the story of the boy who puts back starfish on a beach full of them. He cannot hope to save them all, but he makes a difference to that which he does save.
[ he folds his arms. ]
Even if you help one person, it makes a difference. If you have spoken with Master Zenyatta, he would tell you much the same.
btw i will be slow until later next week
That is.. [He wants to say naive, but stops himself.] very like you.
[He knows better than anyone that when Genji puts his mind to something he can be just as stubborn as he was. The problem was that those things tended to be parties and arcade games when they were younger.]
Yes. It does seem like a notion he might have. He seems the type to look for good where there is none to find. [And as soon as the water is boiled he pours it over the teabags to brew, setting each on the table.]
no worries!
[ genji's tone is deliberately light when he asks that, a rhetorical question. he remembers using such reasons to shirk his supposed duties in his youth. but times have changed now.
every action, no matter how small, has a chance of rippling out and affecting others. such as this chance meeting. but he keeps that to himself.
he thanks hanzo as he sets the tea down, folding his arms. ]
He is a monk. Searching out the good in the world is part of who he is.
[ he's peering at hanzo, though it's easier to disguise - just the slightest tilt of his helmet. he hears how hanzo considers no good left in himself - or to genji's perspective, implies it - and files it away for further discussion. ]
btw are you gonna app (no pressure! just curious)
Which I understand, and admire. [He responds quickly and perhaps a bit more defensively than he should.] But finding the good in people who lack any redeeming qualities seems futile and pointless.
[It's probably obvious at this point what he's talking about so Hanzo doesn't do much to hide that Zenyatta has been worming his way into the archer's tough exterior to help him heal. But just like his father he's painfully stubborn and difficult to get close to. The omnic manages to keep trying though.]
Anyway. He will be pleased to see you.
i am! i'm finishing up my app tonight and submitting~
he wraps his fingers around the cup, feeling (and sensing) the warmth. ]
I imagine so, even if he will surely be exasperated as well.
[ there's a smile in his tone, but after a moment he reaches up for his faceplate. if he's gonna drink tea he needs to take this off - although his movements are slow, allowing hanzo time to look away or stop him if he wants. ]
i vote we keep this thread, then *-*
