QUESTIONS MEME

THE QUESTIONS MEME

A first big 'n successful round of apps has concluded and the game is getting off to a roll - since there are always brains to be picked and new pals and acquaintances to be made, how's about we all play a little getting-to-know-you game?

HOW TO PLAY:
• Leave a comment below with your name and the characters who you play.
• Respond to others' comments with questions - they can be about their characters, their current in-game plans or things they'd like to play, their CR, RP in general, their canons and fandoms, or most anything else.
• Answer questions you've received! Keep it short or TL;DR to your heart's content, depending on how much you have or are in the mood to say!
• After each answer you give, ask a question back to the person who answered you. Keep the thread of questioning up for as long as both parties are game!
• Go for it - make friends, make new plans, make anything you like!

I'm here with Sun Ce from Dynasty Warriors (though I haven't yet done more than tag top-levels in the intro log)!

Favorite Dynasty Warriors game, go!

Dynasty Warriors 8 is probably my favorite from a gameplay perspective, plus I love the hypothetical scenarios! I do miss the individual stories from DW5 and the attention each character got to their own personality and character growth.

And even though it's not my favorite, I do feel like giving DW9 a shout-out for introducing some of my favorite characters so far.

My question: if you could get any historical period or mythology its own full-fledged Musou game, which one would you choose?

I am a giant mythology nerd, so that gets my pick. I know Koei has made Journey to the West and Fengshen Yanyi games in the past, but I'd love to see either of them get the full Musou treatment rather than just the handful of characters from both we got in Orochi.

And speaking of Orochi: favorite Mystic/God/Whatever-Yoshitsune-counts-as?

I definitely would love to see a full-fledged Journey to the West game. I'd kind of also like to see them try their hands at Water Margin.

My favorite mythological characters are probably Shennong and Nuwa, though I really like most of the mythological characters a great deal. I'm just slightly less familiar with most of them.

Is there a least favorite Warriors Orochi character for you? Someone you just can't see the appeal of?

I like most of them, but I always manage to forget that Kiyomori exists, even though he's pretty important to the plot, so there's that.

As for Prismatica, any plans you're wanting to try for? Short-term game goals? Long term game goals?

My most basic short term goal is to make Sun Ce some friends. He's a friendly enough guy, so it should be easy enough. Long term, though, I'd like him to get sort of caught up in everything that's going on and focused on helping or taking care of people here. It'll help take his mind off of his family since they're so important to him.

Any pairings in particular that appeal to you from the Orochi-verse? Involving the mystic characters or others!

Ooh ooh, favorite DW character to play as in-game! since RP might be a little obvious

Ooh, that's a tough one. DW9 really made me enjoy playing as Cheng Pu. His moveset is just so fluid and interesting, and it's also fun to beat up on all of those greenhorns as a grizzled old man. But if I'm playing the other games, my favorite character to play is usually Xingcai. She always has such a fun and unique moveset.

Since you play an OC, I'm very curious: were there any other usernames you considered, even if for only a moment, and what would've been the significance for them?

Xingcai is an excellent choice. You'd think a sword and shield would be pretty basic to play, but then you remember this is Dynasty Warriors. Also Xingcai herself is great.

I'm...trying to remember if I considered any other options, but I think this was my first one? Tilly here went though a revamp from what she was when I made this account to now as a D&D campaign NPC, but the principle is the same: she's a necromancer who can recruit spirits Valkyrie Profile style, but gets a little too anxious and shy to speak up and be a proper leader. Instead, she'd convey mood and whatnot through music. She talks more with her new background, but it all works out.

Also it's a nod to one of my favorite tracks in Lumines because I'm a dork who likes journal names with multiple meanings.

Okay, real talk here: I'm kind of morbidly curious about DW9. Didn't hear great things at launch, but I heard it's better nowadays. How's it holding up?

I've had a few D&D characters that I've considered bringing into the verse, and one of the ones I was considering was an elven bard, so that username reminded me a lot of him! I love hearing about people's D&D characters.

Okay, so: DW9 is a very flawed game. I will say that straight up. If you're looking for a compelling combat system with lots of depth, it's honestly a little disappointing on that front. The game basically has two difficulty modes: you can either just run past all of the enemy soldiers and use a grappling hook to get yourself next to the enemy commander and just beat them into oblivion, or everything hits you super hard and you're struggling to do any damage. There's not really an in-between. And the open world is... okay.

But there's some enjoyment to be had there! I actually didn't mind the gameplay once I instituted a few house rules on myself, such as forcing myself to finish side missions but not feeling compelled to do things like capture every base I ran across. And while the stories have some pretty cheesy, poorly done dialogue scenes that really take you out of it, the actual storylines are pretty good and give you a good look into the characters. The DLC stories make it clear they learned from their mistakes, too, as the combat's a lot better in those, and they have a lot more direction. So, I'm actually having fun now that it's been patched and all that.

Do you have any favorite Dynasty Warriors characters yourself, since you seem familiar with the series? Or from any spinoffs?

8XL was my gateway drug into the series and my god, what a gateway. From there, I jumped to Samurai Warriors 4-2, Warriors All-Stars, Warriors Orochi 4, got Hyrule Warriors I need to play and Fire Emblem Warriors I wanna pick up one day...basically I got hooked real easy.

Zhang He is a delight in both gameplay and just existing, but Jia Chong has to be one of my top favorites. He's creepy, cold, everything you'd see in a villain except he's adamant about playing a supporting role and that's so fascinating to me. I swear this isn't me kissing up but also Sun Jian? I adore Tiger Dad for being so Tiger Rad. The Tiger family is probably the most endearing to me of the main faction leaders, even Quan. He isn't my favorite, but I do love his story and how hard he tries to be as good a leader as Ce and Jian. I also wish I got more of Huang Zhong since he's so much fun while also probably getting the best buildup with the Mt. Dingjun level while also playing one of my favorite tracks in all of 8XL. I know I have a few favorite SW characters but I can't think of them right now and this post might get long if I keep listing all my favorites.

Looking back on it, I'm surprised with how many enjoyable characters this series has. Even if some are one note, they're still fun and I'm impressed.

But since I'm thinking about it, are there any canons or games you think should get the Warriors treatment?

You know, I am downright thirsty for a Dynasty Warriors/Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover.

Which Persona game first got you into the series?
