You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. After an hour or two of wandering through the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. Because of the strange phenomena during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.
You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay. You will then be escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the Iris moon and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as the local Prismals.
The next destination: Prismatica.

On the ides of the third month, an emergency broadcast appears from Captain Natela:
Captain Natela
Greetings, Prismals and Moonblessed.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Port Sylvel has been completely crystallized. The Moon Knights are currently recruiting willing explorers and scientists to investigate the cause. Investigations are still pending, but the outlook is grim. The only survivors were among the few we carried out of the city last month. The rest perished from the crystallization.
Our heart goes out to those affected by this plight. There is no cause for panic. There is no sign that the crystallization is spreading beyond Port Sylvel. We Moon Knights stand with the people of Prismatica, as we have done for centuries. We are not mere defenders of a city but protectors of a planet. We endeavor to find the cause of this tragedy and bring peace and justice to the lives it claimed. Until then, we ask for your cooperation. Stay calm and press onward.
Those who volunteer to participate in the expedition will be rewarded for their efforts. They will be assisted by experts from the Lunar Scientia as well as the bear Prismal and Moon Knight Fahrouk, who looks worse for wear after hearing the news.
Officer Fahrouk
Oh, Moonblessed. It's you. Yeah, Hala is doing good. Won the spelling bee! I think she might make the nationals. ... I… I don't think I ever told you. Port Sylvel was our hometown. My wife is buried there. We’d go there every spring. Hala loved picking the flowers there. Did you know that different flowers grow in Port Sylvel compared to Lunatia? Haaaah...
Moonblessed! I know you think I'm not cool enough to hang out with you, and all I do is ask for your help, but please let me go with you! Please… This is something I have to do as a soldier, a husband, and a father.
… What? You always thought I was cool?
Finding strength and resolve after the participants tell him he's supposed to assist them on their mission anyway, Fahrouk distributes LIFE suits to the participants as he briefs them on what they're about to do. He and the participating Moonblessed will then be transported via a large transport vessel.
Port Sylvel is hardly recognizable. What was once an idyllic coastal town is now a site of tragic beauty — crystal formations encase buildings and Prismals like jagged glass coffins, as if preserving life in its final moments. Readings from life detectors tell you that everyone in the crystal has passed on, but you and your fellow Moonblessed think you can still hear their cries of distress carried along by the wind, warning you about the Prideful King.
Eventually, transmissions from the LIFE suits announce an order for escape. Buildings collapse and shatter in your wake, and the ground quakes violently as something awakens in the far distance...

A Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.
Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

B Due to the temporal distortions, Prismals and Moonblessed new and old feel their bodies sporadically transform in the strangest of ways. Your joints ache like they’ve carried a lifetime’s weight of misfortune and regret. Your voice turns high-pitched like a certain pair has yet to drop. You turn into a confused infant in one moment and the seasoned fighter you always wanted to be in the next. Your memories also shuffle around along with your apparent age, leaving you confused and unsettled. The transformations can occur and last for as long as the 11th, when everything turns back to normal without incident. That time your baby self peed in your pants? Never happened. Until then, moonlacing seems to stabilize the weird abnormalities.

C For these dark hours, Lunar Scientia releases their latest Chroma-powered technology for Moonblessed use: star lanterns. When a star lantern is held by two Moonblessed, it absorbs newly generated Chroma from them, enabling it to light up the missing stars in the sky as you travel from place to place. The light’s color and intensity will depend on you and your partner’s bond, the spectrum ranging from a violet of hatred to a red full of love. Indifference, however, will not light the lantern at all. It also comes with a float function so that it can be released into the atmosphere without needing to carry it everywhere. Since the technology is limited in stock, Moonblessed may only have one star lantern in their possession.
One of the issued guidelines is to never walk through dark alleys alone even with the lanterns, as the crime rate has increased lately due to those taking advantage of the chaos. This is especially rampant in Level 3, at the mouth of the Lightless.

Beware: a single bite from these lions can easily tear through the LIFE suit and cause your body to crystallize quickly unless someone rushes in to moonlace with you to halt the effect. These lions are unlike the beasts you’ve fought before: their otherworldly strength is overwhelming, and nothing seems to wear them down. Destroying them seems pointless, as they quickly regenerate the minute they are obliterated.

Yanyou | Ashes of Love
welcome to the jungle – sun lamp
The apartment he’s been given is very nice, but it’s cold! He hasn’t yet learned about the thermostat and he doesn’t have any heat-producing magic on him, so he goes out in search of a warm place to take a nap. Soon he finds a lantern shop selling sun lamps in varying sizes, which Yanyou is pretty sure is the greatest invention of all time. He desperately wants to buy one (or several), but doesn’t yet have the Chroma, so he’s been “testing it out” by napping under one for an hour. The shop clerk is starting to get desperate, so she’ll be approaching any moonblessed or moon knights who come near the store to ask for help dealing with this sleepy immortal in the display window.
time warp - baby’s first rebellion
The shifting sands of time have lurched suddenly under Yanyou’s feet, and he finds himself a teenager. Immortal as he is, ‘teenager’ is more of a state of being than an actual number in years, but he appears to be about seventeen, and he is incredibly nervous. The last thing he remembers is sneaking out from home to explore the realms, but he’s not sure what realm this is and he can’t remember how he got here. He’s going to be in so much trouble when he gets home! And yet… as long as he’s here… how can he resist adventures?
He’s dazzled by this wondrous new place. So many bright lights! So many new foods! So much bare skin on display! He wants to look at everything and try everything. If you exist, he wants to make friends with you. If you’re carrying anything modern or unusual to a Chinese fantasy setting, he’ll be drawn over at once, curious. “Oh, what is that?”
starlight – ruins of the future
When the world suddenly shifts into its own future, a place of desolate ruin, Yanyou is horrified. The tragedy of the ruins makes his heart ache. All that color and celebration! The theaters! The food! But far worse than the desolation is the threat of wings in the distance and the echoing cries of some distant, frightened victims. Yanyou knows enough about enormous winged creatures to have an appropriate amount of terror of them! He needs shelter at once, and so do you! Yanyou may not know you, but you’re here with him in this strange place and there is every likelihood that the enormous winged thing wants to eat you both. So he will grab you by the wrist, trying to drag you toward the nearest structure for shelter. “We have to get out of the street! It’s coming!”

"if you'd like to sleep somewhere, there are any number of fine establishments nearby that cater to that very desire. Alone or with a partner or several."
no subject
Yanyou is not drunk, being not yet able to afford alcohol in this world, but he is very warm and contented from his nap. "Warm," he points out, indicating the lamp over his shoulder. But he's very willing to be persuaded, especially at the mention of a partner or several.
Yawning wide as he deigns to wake up, he hops to his feet and slides his arms around the soldier's shoulders. "How handsome you look in your uniform! Very appealing. Tell me about these establishments. Are you paying? I haven't yet got any money."
He is such a very tragic penniless snake! So cold, so lonely. Please dispense immediate cuddles.
no subject
Dispensing emergency moonlacing is absolutely one of his duties, after all.
"No money? Look again. You've enough to buy that lamp, now."
The way he says it, the clear implication is that it isn't a suggestion or a request, but a clear command to stop wasting this poor shopkeeper's time.
no subject
When he checks his chroma again, he does indeed have the required funds. Thrilled, he kisses the knight's cheek in return and then quickly picks up the lamp, arranging to purchase it from the bewildered shopkeeper. The time he spent under the lamp has energized him, and he's extremely bouncy now.
Vanishing the lamp into his sleeve to be used later, Yanyou hugs his arms back around the moonknight's neck, full of gratitude over having all his problems solved. "My hero! You really did come to my rescue. How can I possibly repay you?"
Given how they're starting with hugs and kisses, he's really hoping that repayment will involve blowjobs.
no subject
Involuntarily, his cold skin grows warmer.
"Um... you should be more careful of using your powers. They can rapidly consume chroma." He pauses, absentmindedly sliding his arms about the man's waist. "You are... you're one of those mountain sect people?"
Mountain sect people being his term for cultivators. This is because "soul cultivation" is a bit of a joke where he's from, basically only practiced by old people afraid of dying.
no subject
Mountain sect people. What an interesting phrase. No, he's pretty sure he's not anything mountains or sects. Honestly even 'people' is a stretch for him. "Am I?" What a helpful question-answering snake you have in your arms right now. "What are mountain sect people like?"

Sun lamp
When he saw the sleeping man and the poor shop keeper he stopped to take a look. Feeling the warmth of the light he decided to curl up next to the man and share in his sun.
Alas, now the shop Keeper had teo problems.
no subject
Curious about the stranger who has cuddled up to him, Yanyou lets his tongue shift to its snake form so that he can flick snake kisses at the stranger's face, smelling him.
no subject
But, didn’t actually make one. Anything that was worth saying could probably be known through smell. Well, perhaps. He did not quite have a good understanding of this place yet.
no subject
His new friend smells like both demon and snake. Yanyou's not entirely sure what to make of that, but the snake part at least is kin. Yanyou's inclination is to treat all snakes or water elementals as kin and ally unless demonstrated otherwise.

"I am Zhuzhi Lang," he spoke softly and politely. "As for the residences... they are strange and unfamiliar," he did not understand the things inside and was not sure what to do with himself. He would almost prefer to simply live outside. Since he was alone living outside seemed fine. He came from the wilderness and he could return to it.
Zhuzhi Lang was not a particular threat, as long as people were good to him. He operated with a simple innocence that was terrifying when properly understood. Take care of those who take care of him. Remove those who cause him harm. It was simple, though ruthless. The ways of demons tended to be so.

Runyu's voice is flat, already with a note of exasperation to see the water snake in this place alone. Of all people— And already making trouble for the locals, no less. Sighing, Runyu assures the shop owner he will handle this, then crosses over to the insufferable creature's side.
"Have you not even a passing acquaintance with shame? Get up before I take you by force."
don't be sorry that's one of the greatest prompts i've ever written it deserves to be used
His first instinct is to tackle Runyu in a hug, but he does have the slightest hint of a survival instinct when it comes to his elder brother, and the second instinct is even more fun. Lounging fully on his belly, he crosses his arms at the wrist and bends his knees up like he's exchanging gossip in a meadow, and gives Runyu his best wickedly inviting smile. "Take me by force, da dianxia."
no subject
"Shameless." Turning to the shop owner, he bows briefly and extends his apologies once more, then starts physically dragging Yanyou out of there as asked of him.
"Have you somewhere to stay here yet?"
no subject
Completely calm about being bound and dragged around in public, Yanyou just smiles when his brother asks about his living situation. "They gave me an 'apartment'. It's very cold, though. I can't sleep somewhere that cold." He could. He just might go into torpor and wake up in three months. Which would be fine in the long term, but what if he missed something fun in that time?!
"How long have you been here, da dianxia?"
no subject
Because, well. He's not a monster. But if Yanyou was hoping for an offer of body heat, Runyu is here to let him down.
"I have been here a short while, but not long enough that it does not feel as though the last headache you gave me was yesterday."
He continues to drag Yanyou along as they speak, towards his apartment because he doesn't feel like having to deal with how and where Yanyou lives firsthand. He'll teach Yanyou how to use the heat in the apartments, have him over for dinner for propriety's sake, and then kick him out.
This has nothing to do with being lonely or missing things about home.

RUINS BABEY
Nothing's ever normal around here, but that's not a bad thing.
At any rate, he checks out the stranger while they're apparently fleeing for their lives, reading him as some kind of... young lord? He's got that air about him, the carefree whimsy that comes with not having a lot of problems in the world, all earnest and helpful in the face of a crisis.
"How do you know I'm not part of the danger?" he asks lightly as they duck into some sturdy looking cover, grinning playfully at his new friend as he absently twirls a knife.
no subject
He returns the grin, feeling better once they're in the cover of a ruined building. Anything with wings that big probably can't get them in here.
Then he throws his arms wide in invitation, giving the outside another wary glance but otherwise remaining all grins at his new friend. "Come cuddle. In case that thing comes looking for us we're gonna want to make sure that at least one of us is charged up."
He's learned that powers require Chroma, and the stronger the power the more Chroma they might need. If that thing is as scary as Qiongqi, he's going to want all the juice he can get so that they can escape.
no subject
The invitation to cuddle on top of that only piques Xue Yang's interest further, eyebrow arching sharply before he shrugs and moves into that offered embrace. But why stop there? If this guy's not taken aback by a knife-twirling stranger, Xue Yang wonders what else he could get away with.
Grinning faintly, he folds Yanyou into an embrace, then leans right in to steal a kiss.
"Why stop there? Who knows how much Chroma we'll need," he murmurs with a laugh right before their lips touch.
no subject
His arms tighten around the human's waist, warm and solid, pulling him in close, and he deepens the kiss without any hesitation. The more Chroma the better, and they might as well stockpile for every moment that they're not actively in danger. Yanyou needs far more Chroma in order to power his immortal abilities, and he doesn't see any reason to hold back.
While he's at it, with this pretty human in his arms, he slides one hand down to cup a handful of ass, because Yanyou can't ever resist seeing how much he can get away with.

Starlight
Moving is still as painful as ever and she doesn’t like to go long distances on her human legs, but generally the sidewalks she wanders are flat and even and don’t cause a fuss for her—at least, not until this sudden, strange shift in her vision. She flinches in surprise and stops, frowning, brow furrowed, and she makes a confused, bird-like trilling noise to herself.
And then, quite suddenly, there are hands on her. She’s a fair bit heavier than she appears, but the person seems to be able to move her with more ease than she’s used to. It doesn’t mean she’s distracted enough to not yelp and immediately start squirming though. The pure-white robes she wears don’t seem capable of getting messy at least, and they’re flowy and pretty—b it it’s also clear that she’s only wearing a couple layers and likely absolutely nothing underneath them.
“Who— what? Hey! What are you doing?!” She looks indignant and huffy for good measure, though she flinches a little in surprise at the frankly alarmingly large shadow that passes by overhead for a moment. “Eh...?”
no subject
"You know, if you're just going to be walking along the streets in desolate ruined areas with giant winged things, you should probably keep a better eye on your surroundings." Curious about, well, all of this, Yanyou peeks out carefully from within the shelter of their building. "What happened out there, do you know? Where did Lunatia go? Who did they piss off?"
