THE QUESTIONS MEME

HOW TO PLAY:
• Leave a comment below with your name and the characters who you play.
• Respond to others' comments with questions - they can be about their characters, their current in-game plans or things they'd like to play, their CR, RP in general, their canons and fandoms, or most anything else.
• Answer questions you've received! Keep it short or TL;DR to your heart's content, depending on how much you have or are in the mood to say!
• After each answer you give, ask a question back to the person who answered you. Keep the thread of questioning up for as long as both parties are game!
• Go for it - make friends, make new plans, make anything you like!
zunge: (with the echoes of himself)

It has, actually! He's still pre-Scrap, but he has done some anonymous information gathering and experimentation here and there. He also wound up with accelerated regeneration as a permanent trait.

During the event at the end of January King Majestas made seraphic wings sprout from a bunch of people that made the victims obsess over their desires while in immense pain. Due to the magical nature of the wings, he was able to feel pain in the wounds they caused, and it sent him into a euphoric delirium. In came crashing someone he knew to dissipate the wings by touching him, which made the pain disappear as well. He went ballistic and lashed out before sinking into a panic attack over the loss, but luckily that person helped him pull out of that and calm down. That person also immediately apologized for his meddling and, unlike in canon where Aoba basically pushes his concern for Noiz's welfare on him without asking, he specifically asked how he could make it better. The unconditional acceptance he showed him and willingness to get Noiz's input on how to involve himself was a big deal.

Over the last two months he has been using a Ware Wolf Shop item that can let the consumer change whatever they want about their body or appearance (sex, species, body part size, etc) in order to temporarily experience properly working senses of pain and touch. he's only got a limited number of these, but is using them to experience different injuries and textures with his body.

He remains mostly resigned to being someone who cannot normally experience those sensations the same way as others, but with many people's help he's been able to understand what these things feel like. Most notably, he learned that he's been in emotional pain for a very long time, from a young age, and simply never knew how to recognize it. He continues to find it challenging to infer how others feel, but he does have a much better understanding of the sensations and why people don't like it. But boy does he enjoy it, and he is grateful for the wealth of assistance some of his CR have given him as part of his journey to learn about pain. It is because of his unique relationship to pain that he was able to connect on an emotional level with Lucy (the Elfen Lied one) and Kogami Shinya, and he considers Lobelia his mentor on pain. His self-loathing has somewhat deepened, however, for reasons that really don't require explanation. He now understands what he's missing out on, and it sucks despite the fact that his condition is still pretty convenient for some things.

How's Itachi going to go about his new life on this strange and crazy planet?

Nice! It's cool to see he's gone through some shit and wrangled with his relationship to pain/touch. I haven't played DMMD in a while, but used to write Aoba (and some Trip on the side), so I'm psyched to see Noiz. And also what a neat item for him to mess around with haha.

That part about emotional pain, oof my heart. Makes a lot of sense to me, since I did interpret him as more oblivious to his own suffering and issues in general. I like that you've developed him to being more aware of what he's missing with his condition. Gotta be unfun for Noiz.

Itachi won't deal super well tbh. I plan to keep his chronic illness, though not on the verge of killing him outright, since I thought it might be interesting to play with. He's coming from after he died, too, so he'll just want to go back to being dead lol. Hopefully his eventual development helps with that!
zunge: (now I know I've got to)

Noiz was definitely oblivious to varying degrees about his suffering. A lot of it was just how numb and detached he became about everything, but also you can't forget that he was socially isolated for most of his formative years and only had like... whatever biased textbooks, workbooks and educational computer programs his parents provided. with no real human guidance. I generally headcanon that time frame as being during ages 6 through 15. He probably noticed how he was feeling, but didn't know how to interpret it or match it up with X or Y category of emotional pain. And once he got used to it, it became the norm.

Also nice to see someone who's played from the series before. Likewise, Naruto is one of my old old as fuq fandoms. I even played Deidara like 10-11 years ago.

Which gives me an idea for the next Q: Naruto has a ton of cool characters. If you were to play literally any other character besides Itachi, who would it be?
anbu: (wish away the nightmare)

[personal profile] anbu 2020-03-25 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor Noiz, that's heart breaking. I remember his background really striking me, and it's no wonder he goes kind of wild (in a way), although you can still tell he's very intelligent. Noiz's complexity put him up there as one of my favorite characters from the series. Plus, the dick piercings.

Haha Deidara, such a big headache for Itachi. :') I love all of the Akatsuki a ton. They were one of the best things about the series for me, in the beginning. It's hard to imagine playing anyone else, but I'd settle probably on Sasuke (because I'm a mess for these Uchihas) or Gaara. The latter I've tried before for a brief stint.

Have you played any of the other Nitro+Chiral visual novels?
zunge: (outside is my hell)

[personal profile] zunge 2020-03-25 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah he's what I like to call "book smart, people dumb." Different kinds of intelligence, man.

Iiiiii have played a significant portion of Togainu no Chi, but never finished. I got through Keisuke's route, Rin's, and Motomi's, and got partway through Shiki's. Then my hard drive died and I never bothered to install it on the replacement drive. I want to play Lamento but couldn't get it to work on my last computer. Apparently installation problems aren't uncommon. I wouldn't even know where to fine Sweet Pool and last I recall it was not fully translated.

You, same question.
anbu: (i won't come back)

[personal profile] anbu 2020-03-25 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
HIGH FIVES Itachi's there too.

Iii honestly can't remember much of my TNC run, I think I only got through Keisuke. I had a similar problem with Lamento and gave up, which is sad because it does seem right up my alley otherwise. As for Sweet Pool, I had an autotranslator running on my computer and got through a decent chunk of the game, however then my graphics card gave up haha. So that ended quickly. It was a nightmare getting it up and running - if only these novels were a little easier to access!

What's your favorite pairing/dynamic in DMMD? Any for Noiz in particular?
zunge: (but I'm sorry I don't pray that way)

[personal profile] zunge 2020-03-25 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
My top three favorite pairings are Noiz/Aoba, Noiz/Koujaku and Noiz/Mizuki. I will however consider anything that can be somehow made to work with some chemistry or another. I love Virus and Trip fucking people up, be it Koujaku, Noiz, Aoba, Mizuki, etc. Basically I like poor Noiz getting to heal from the psychological trauma of the abuse he suffered, but also conflict and rivalries and provocation in general.

What kinds of series pull you in the easiest? Particular genres or character types?
anbu: ANBU (being sung to sleep each night)

[personal profile] anbu 2020-03-26 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Good choices. I love Mizuki, he's up there in my favorites haha. Agreed with the rest of that, DMMD lends to a lot of great character exploration which is why I enjoyed it so much.

Hmm, strong characters probably pull me in more than anything else! Strong stories, too, but the characters often drive the story. As for genres, I'm partial to horror and psychological drama, scifi, and high fantasy, but I'm willing to go for anything. I'm less fond of straight up fluff/slice of life themes or modern settings. I'm not sure if there's a character "type" I'm most drawn toward, but I do enjoy bad boy characters who are secretly much softer deep down. Or very emotional characters. Itachi's kind of different from my usual, because he's much more reticent, and I tend to prefer fiery and combative personalities. But he's rewarding once he does form connections.

Same question for you!
zunge: (and you think love is to pray)

[personal profile] zunge 2020-03-26 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Character-driven stories, that's for certain. The genres I enjoy the most are psychological drama, thriller, sci-fi, and battles, but I also love a really good ridiculous and over the top comedy and most sports series. Another important factor is worldbuilding. For anything beyond the basic modern real world, I like something that's really well developed and detailed, especially when it involves sci-fi/fantasy elements like supernatural powers. This is one of the reasons I got so sucked in to the universe of Toaru Majutsu no Index and its spinoff Toaru Kagaku no Railgun - the dynamics of a massive worldwide underground magic community tied to religion being entirely at odds with the scientific community that experiments on children in the high tech city-state Academy City to turn them into espers. I am a sucker for human experimentation, time shenanigans (time travel, loops, temporal distortions), psychic powers, twisted sibling dynamics, rivalries, human vs non-human conflict, and psychology and morals in general. For character types I am a forever sucker for intelligent and charismatic villains, male tsunderes, "book smart people dumb," abuse survivors, trolls, unpredictable personalities, sweethearts with hidden dark sides, strong women who defy gender stereotypes or gender roles, and unconventional do-gooders. A series that otherwise would be so-so to me can enrapture me all because of a character or two.

Rec me some good sci-fi that you think is underappreciated or less known!

[personal profile] anbu 2020-03-28 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Sports series are pretty good, I enjoy those too. And I just resonate resonate with a lot of what you mentioned in general. I'm not familiar with Toaru Majutsu no Index but I'll have to check it out now! Agreed on the weight of a good character with influencing taste, I feel it's pretty easy to tell when a story has weak characters. The whole thing falls flat.

Hmm, my personal favorite author of sci-fi is Ted Chiang! His ability to mix literate science and philosophical questions with relationships and humanity is unparalleled, plus he's contemporary. He's behind the story of the movie Arrival, if you've ever seen that. (Highly recommend if you haven't watched.) But if anime is more your route, the first thing that comes to my mind as lesser known is the movie Blame! just for a casual watch. I think it has a manga that's supposed to be even better. I'd recommend Akira too, even though that's highly appreciated and you've probably seen it haha. Just a must-see.
zunge: (don't touch me please)

[personal profile] zunge 2020-03-28 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, please check it out! Index has 74 eps out across 3 2-cour seasons which adapt the first 22 light novels. (Ignore the Index manga, it skips and omits way too much to be worth it.) Railgun will have 73 eps out across 3 2-cour seasons by sometime later this year (S3 is airing atm), which adapt the manga and also have some... anime original arcs ehhhh. Index is what I lovingly refer to as Science, Magic and Punching People in the Face: The Musical. Kamijou Touma is kind of like straight Aoba in how he destroys people's illusions by punching them in the face with his right hand which nullifies all supernatural powers that it comes in contact with. And this AMV is one I personally love since it focuses on the best character in the series (yes, I am biased).

I am not familiar with Ten Chiang, but I have heard of Arrival, which I keep meaning to watch. As for Blame!, iirc that's by the same author behind Knights of Sidonia, one of my favorite series ever. I keep meaning to read, but I've been lazy.
anbu: (a lot of lily art in here) (Default)

[personal profile] anbu 2020-03-28 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, that AMV was excellent. And it's got a song by Assemblage 23, DID NOT expect that (but now I've got a new song to jam to). Thanks for showing me! I'll see if I can check out some episodes.

Haha yeah I'm pretty lazy when it comes to reading stuff vs watching it. Definitely give Arrival or the Blame! movie a shot, they're pretty quick and enjoyable.
