You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. After an hour or two of wandering through the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. Because of the strange phenomena during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay. You will then be escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the Iris moon and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as the local Prismals.

The next destination: Prismatica.

Welcome to the Jungle
07/08 - 07/15 | Iris Moon, Government Center (Arrival) and Planet Prismatica, City of Lunatia | top

Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated. After a quick tour of the city, new arrivals can find themselves getting cozy in their new homes.

A  Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.

Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

You’re as Cold as Ice
07/08 - 07/15 | Level 2, Crystal Beach | top

Summer strikes Lunatia with record high temperatures as the city is wracked by an unnatural heatwave. Residents will feel the burn the moment they head outdoors, kissing their skin pink as it drenches them in sweat. For a hot and sticky day like this, it's the perfect time to head to Crystal Beach for a refreshing dip in the water. All sorts of new stands have popped up by the shore, selling icy treats and frozen cocktails.

The morning news recommends befriending those blessed by Cordis, who can keep people cool with their magic touch. They also warn of overheating machinery and electronics! Establishments and residences may end up dealing with broken air-modulating units if they use them too much.

Having cleared their names, Suzaku and Kaya of former *BTSB fame have decided to reform as a rock band duo called The Nine Tails after leaving their boyband roots. They will be performing their most chill new summer jam, “Fox Girl Summer,” while incorporating Cordis magic of their own to keep the listeners feeling cool and refreshed.

B  Those listening to Kaya and Suzaku’s summer anthem might find their beats too chill to relax and party to. And by that, we mean literally. Ice may start to form around the limbs of happy local beachgoers, filling them with unfortunate shivers that will send them running into the arms of another Prismal to thaw. Even more troubling is that some portions of the oceanfront may also start to freeze, trapping some unsuspecting swimmers inside and leaving them in need of rescue. If anyone goes unnoticed, a Prismal lifeguard will be quick to rescue them.

In a panic, Kaya winks at Suzaku, who reassures his worried partner and ends their performance by summoning a mighty phoenix above the stage. Of course, it is only an illusion for the audience as Kaya thaws the partygoers and the ocean with his magic. Suzaku might have gotten carried away with their debut...

Boom, Badoom, Boom, You Got that Super Bass
07/08 - 07/15 | top

The heated beach waters have brought a large onslaught of aggressive super bass close to the shore. Needless to say, the boys with the booming system were not ready for the sudden and alarming increase in population of this particular fish. In response, the beach committee is hosting a fishing competition to see who can catch the largest super bass. They will be providing extremely durable fishing gear and sufficient bait to all worthy competitors, so come to the Crystal Pier with your best fishing know-how and try and break a record or two!

Due to the competition, job openings for lifeguards have become available. Their main task is to keep an eye on participants and the audience. They should be ready to pull them out in case they have trouble swimming back to the pier. Lifeguards will be provided official beach committee high-tech swimsuits (in the form of tankinis and speedos of your choice) that enhance their performance by allowing them to swim faster and breathe more easily underwater. In the dark ocean depths, they glow with patterns easily recognizable to the Prismal eye. They also accentuate the Moonblesseds’ assets very nicely.

C  Although they are no different from sea bass in appearance, super bass are known for their monstrous strength and penchant for mischief. They like to fly in the air and slap whoever tries to catch them and their fellow fish with their tail fins. You think you like them better when they dolo? Think again. These fish will purposely grab a hold of something eye-catching such as rainbow-colored sea pearl or other treasures from the ocean and pull the unsuspecting fishers into the watery depths.

Put on Your Red Shoes and Dance the Blues
07/08 - 07/23 | City of Amegahara | top

The city of Amegahara is in preparation for the annual Vulpus Astra Celebration which is coming up in a few weeks. This year is special as the foxes of Amegahara have never celebrated this occasion with the dragons of Lyestellus, making it the first time all three cities in the alliance will be celebrating together. This is all thanks to the Moonblessed, who not only healed their lands but also brought the Prismals closer.

And so for this special year, the upcoming event promises to be an even larger and more extravagant affair. In order to address the extremely high demand for traditional dress and other materials needed for the celebration, many job openings become available in Amegahara. Among these are tailors, glassblowers, florists, and dancers.

D  The tailors will be sewing traditional clothes, such as lovely-patterned yukata, kimono, haori, and obi. Glassblowers will create pearl glass plates, cups, and trinkets such as hair accessories and festive souvenirs. Florists will be heading to work at Inari Highway’s greenhouses, caring for flowers and putting together flower crowns, colorful bouquets, and floral arrangements to use for street and interior decorations. It is encouraged to make use of pearl glass vases!

Lastly, dancers will be auditioning for a group of strict Amegaharan foxes who will not shy away from hurling insults if you underperform. The traditional Amegaharan dance features many layers of intricate fan work that is difficult to master, or dancers can choose to take part in the more uproarious Amegaharan drum dance. Be prepared for long and grueling rehearsals after passing auditions, where you will be forced to partner up with one another to bend each other’s bodies as flexibly as it could then dance until every single person in the room has the movements and timings memorized perfectly. Moonlacing will keep one another from collapsing in exhaustion, but your bruised ego may require more tender care.

You don't have people who do your hair for you? Or your clothes? People in my world have that and they don't even need to be royalty. Is your nation really small or something?

[This comes across as if he's bragging but he really isn't. It's just very normal to have these things and Hikaru doesn't think it's special to have personal hair dressers and stylists. For a prince that should be normal as well, right?

And for as much as he does believe him, he's not treating him any differently. After all, Zuko is not his prince or anything. They aren't back home. There isn't anything to gain by sucking up to him or anything.

Maybe that's a bit harsh but Hikaru still struggled with how to treat people. It's easy to put people into groups still and for him, Zuko is very much this outsider. Not somebody he has to think about at all. Maybe he's learning this is a person with feelings but he also just doesn't think too much about manners because this is fine, right? He isn't being all that mean. Just honest. ]

[personal profile] rediscovering 2020-07-20 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ If Zuko knew Hikaru's inner monologue... he'd actually probably think along the same lines, if their places were switched. He wouldn't change his treatment of him, either.

But he does hold the small satisfaction of having "won" the argument, in his mind, even if Hikaru is still coming for him all the same. ]

What? No, the Fire Nation is practically an empire — it's not small. And I do have royal hairdressers and stylists, I just, uh... haven't been home for a while. A-and I'm growing my hair out.

[ Both statements are true! Do we need to elaborate further, revealing "I was exiled for three years by my own father and as a sign of my banishment was made to wear my hair almost entirely bald except for a little ponytail, and I'm just happy to have hair again now that I'm allowed to come back home," or will glossing over the deeper horrors of Zuko's hair history be enough? ]
irritated: (it's the same rhythm)

[personal profile] irritated 2020-07-22 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Anybody that converses with Hikaru will soon discover there is no winning a conversation with him. You lose for simply talking to him in the first place.]

The 'Fire Nation'? That's the name they came up for this empire of yours, huh? [The smirk he has on his face will not be leaving for a while.] So some great title is 'Dragon' in the 'Fire Nation'? [Sorry, Zuko. His grin is only growing larger and he isn't laughing but he wants to.]

Okay, okay. But being in between styles doesn't mean you can't make your hair look decent. Seriously, it isn't that hard. Your facial structure isn't even that difficult to work with.
rediscovering: (try again)

[personal profile] rediscovering 2020-07-22 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Until Hikaru actually laughs, Zuko's just instinctually trusting that smiles are good, or at least not bad, even if he doesn't share his own back. He really doesn't understand why any of this comes off as funny, cuz to him it'd be like finding "the earth is round" HILARIOUS. This is just — life? The way of the world? It is what it is? Socializing between dimensional differences is difficult, okay. ]

The Fire Nation is built around the power of fire and firebending — it's a hot place with lots of beaches and volcanoes and fire. What would you call it?

[ Zuko's eyes narrow in irritation, scanning the beach around them, suddenly remembering all the frenzied people dealing with the ice shenanigans. None of that on Fire Nation beaches, that's for sure. Still so weird for him.

Making eye contact again, though, his gaze wheels back to Hikaru at the final comment on his facial structure again. He knows he's being insulted about his hair, but the facial structure comment isn't reading as neutral. After having already mentioned it once or twice before, Zuko's paranoia that it's a subtle dig at his scar is getting to him now. Logical Zuko would be able to diffuse that reasoning, but logical Zuko isn't up-to-snuff on beauty standards, either, even if he were more trusting of the other boy's intentions. His mind doesn't think like this, Hikaru. ]

Shut up about my "facial structure" already, okay?!

[ An unconscious hand raises to graze uncomfortable fingertips against the vermillion border of his scar, running his hand through his hair as if to brush it out of his face as a secondary cover-up gesture — but the hair falls immediately limply back into place. ]
irritated: (what am i supposed to do?)

[personal profile] irritated 2020-07-24 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coming from a very normal world with no magic is hard. Having to socialize with somebody like Hikaru and being Zuko is also very hard. He has done nothing to deserve this but most people victim to speaking with Hikaru will find they did nothing to deserve his behavior.

But being called out, it doesn't take him long to think of a name.]
Something like Phoenix Empire or Phoenix Nation is more original. [Barely...

But also he comes from a country that is also very direct in their naming schemes so he's a bit of a hypocrite.

Kaoru had told him once that if you cared about people, you should listen to all their subtle hints. No matter what, you had to care about everything people said. The problem was that Kaoru had said if you cared about the person and Zuko is a stranger. Most people might realize that they're clearly hurting Zuko because of course he's upset about the facial scar. Even Hikaru kind of assumes that there must have been some accident.

However, even Hikaru does catch on when he fingers the scar and finally, it makes him realize what's upsetting him. He feels a bit mean and usually, he wouldn't care. He didn't hold many issues in insulting something that somebody can change. Like a hairstyle or fashion. But he wouldn't make somebody feel bad about some kind of deformity like that. He isn't quite that level. Now very self-conscious, scratching at the side of his face, he frowns.]

I don't mean your scar when I'm talking about your face. I mean, the shape of it, the length...things like that. [This is probably when he should apologize but well, he's bad at that. This is a huge milestone on its own.]

[ Zuko glances at him while Hikaru speaks, but his eyes dart away at the end, a little "tch" noise escaping his mouth. He almost regrets saying anything — when drawing attention to the scar, in his mind, if it's unspoken, it's processed as scorn; if it's addressed, it's processed as pity; and it sucks having to think about it at all right now. He often forgot about his scar himself — he didn't really see himself with it in his mind's eye still, even after all these three long years... His inner eye knew what his own face looked like as a thirteen-year-old boy and froze that self-image somewhere inside, untainted by life's fire. He still saw himself that way unconsciously, until being wildly forced to realize that's not what he looks like — which happens daily, to one degree or another. The duality of awareness of it itself is upsetting enough, but every shade of a new upsetting thought he was feeling now is like a sprinkle on the shit cake of Today. He grumbles and rolls his eyes, turning away from Hikaru, scarred side facing toward him now, while all these thoughts flash by in nearly half a second. ]

So? Those things don't matter. Hair can't help this. What difference does it make?

[ Like Hikaru would know or understand or empathize — he knew that wasn't the case. But even as Zuko spoke, with all the other frustration of this conversation, there was a new sort of resentment toward Hikaru now bubbling up, an illogical but totally natural teenage one — Hikaru's obviously very good-looking. He's an attractive rich kid Zuko's same age, condescending to him, laughing at him, teasing him, and now the scar has somehow gotten dragged into it, even if he claims he wasn't coming for it... Even if he honestly wasn't, it almost made it feel more patronizing to be told "oh, well, I wouldn't attack your obvious deformity, that'd be too low." Gee, thanks. Zuko makes another, slightly hotter glance Hikaru's way, just to be angry at his handsome face in a new light now. ]
irritated: (tomorrow could be just another day)

[personal profile] irritated 2020-07-25 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[He isn't blind to the fact that Zuko is unhappy with him. It's obvious by the way he looks at him and then keeps looking at him, annoying Hikaru.]

What's your issue? I said I wasn't making fun of your scar so why are you mad at me? [To Hikaru, he had done what he was supposed to do. He had explained himself and so that meant that Zuko was supposed to understand and get over it. What could be bothering him?]

Is it because I made fun of your hair? I'm just being honest and letting you know it looks bad. [Ah yes, he's definitely making this better by continuing to insult the person that's bothered by him but Hikaru feels defensive because he can't think of what he even did wrong. Obviously, Zuko is sensitive and that's his problem.]
rediscovering: (never happy)

[personal profile] rediscovering 2020-07-25 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ Zuko has feelings about his feelings, okay. But he's also self-aware enough to know that Hikaru thinks he's in the right — he's received enough "comfort" about his scar from others to know the way it goes. He's mindful enough to realize he's the one who's being irrational, immature, pouty to be glaring at Hikaru for not having a scarred face... but Hikaru's still insulting Zuko's physical appearance even if he feels it's benign, so his mindfulness isn't really worth much over his reactivity. ]

What's "my" issue? What's your issue?! Why do you care so much what my hair looks like? Sorry I'm not a rich little bon-bon pretty-boy with a cute haircut. My bad.

[ Yikes. Come thru, teenage masculinity. Ouch. ]
irritated: (i'm not gonna give up)

[personal profile] irritated 2020-07-25 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[The thing is, Hikaru isn't even insulted by the words. He is a rich little pretty boy with a cute haircut. That's his schtick. Hikaru doesn't even have any shame about this because why should he? Right now, it's used to his advantage so this is hardly the worst thing he could hear. Besides, his mother works in the fashion industry. Masculinity feels very different in that field.

But the fact that it's supposed to be an insult is what makes Hikaru get offended.]

I am a rich pretty-boy with a cute haircut! [And damn proud of it] You're just jealous that I am one so maybe think about that before you go yelling at me! [But just because it's true, doesn't mean he should say it. However, nobody is there to reign him in. Nobody is here to tell him this is wrong. Tamaki would tell him to stop and so would Haruhi. Kaoru would have been teasing Zuko along with him but he also would have gone quiet by now, letting Hikaru yell and get it out of his system until being told he had to apologize.

And Hikaru will think about what these other people would do for him later. He will think this is what he should do...

But that doesn't help now, does it?]
rediscovering: (diligence)

[personal profile] rediscovering 2020-07-25 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Jealous? Of what? You didn't even believe I was a prince — you have no idea what my life's like! There's nothing to be "jealous" about!

[ Air quotes. There is a lot to be jealous about, at least physically like this. And if he knew Hikaru's charmed life at home, he'd have a lot to be jealous about, too — nearly anyone's probably got it better than his own family situation. But Zuko is a deep thinker, philosophical beyond his age, and very hot these days on contemplating the true meaning of integrity and honor. He himself is in the midst of a metamorphosis — he's become very concerned with considering people's intentions, how to determine more nuanced kindness, of others and of himself... But he's not grasping his own end of things fully yet. His temper gets in the way still. And he's in crisis mode right now — it's so easy to fall back into our worst psychological habits in crisis mode. If he could channel his own crew at home as Hikaru might, he knows deep down he should channel gentle uncle Iroh always; but when his thinking starts spiraling into an old mentality, his near constant, baseline rage taking the reigns, it's a very natural habit just as well to channel his vicious sister Azula. And right now, his inner Azula is louder than his inner Iroh — and inner Azula is by nature always out for blood.

His voice is thicker, darker, clearer. More challenging. More sincere... ]

I bet you can't even fight. You're just a pretty face with a weak core.
irritated: (well that's okay.)

[personal profile] irritated 2020-07-27 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[The amount of fights with other people that Hikaru has been in is very low. Zuko isn't wrong that he can't fight but it isn't so much the comment about fighting that Hikaru is bothered by. A weak core? That is when Hikaru feels some switch flip inside of him and now his anger has boiled over. It's been hard enough to be missing his twin and it feels like this gaping hole is inside of him. Somebody he doesn't know fighting with him after Hikaru tried to do something decent? That makes it all the more worse. Hikaru had had good intentions in saying it wasn't about his scar but he had really missed the point. Not that he sees that.

Zuko doesn't know him and doesn't know about his life at all. Neither of them know the other and that might be the problem they're facing now.]

What? You want to burn me so I'll match you or something? [His fists are clenched and he's invading Zuko's personal bubble now. Which is really very dangerous considering he doesn't know Zuko, knows he can use fire, and who knows what could push somebody over?]
rediscovering: (banished)

[personal profile] rediscovering 2020-07-27 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ yay come thruuu mutual childhood trauma

Zuko is not okay with Hikaru coming toward him like this. He's having a tough time with all this, too — he hates this Chroma touchy-feely economy — he doesn't want anyone to touch him. But if Zuko needs to touch someone else, well, then... Hikaru better consider the probability of catching these fists.

He has enough self-restraint for now to take a step back as Hikaru steps into his space, bringing that distance back between them. Not as a sign of deference — as a warning. An early out for Hikaru. His comment about Zuko burning his face to match his strikes deep, but probably not where Hikaru wanted it to. Zuko locks eyes with him without hesitation when he speaks, his voice still heavy with a subtle rasp, betraying a secret smugness at his own cruelty. As much as Hikaru needs Kaoru to temper him, Zuko needs Iroh, or else he can only go off all else he'd ever known growing up: sharp words to cut to the quick. ]

I told you. I refuse to use firebending on the powerless.

[ He won't, too. There's no honor in that. But that doesn't mean he'd have any qualms about swiftly knocking Hikaru down if it came to that. He doesn't need fire to kick or shove. ]

[Zuko offers him a way out because even if Zuko is hot-headed, much like Hikaru, but he's also used to fighting. As angry as Zuko is, it's obvious that Hikaru doesn't have his experience as a pampered rich boy. Zuko's a good person and Hikaru's too immature to grasp any of this. He takes another step into his personal bubble, not taking the offer of peace.

He's ready to open his mouth and have some cutting remark but they are still in this restaurant. The actual staff steps in, a taller man, and tells them to cut it off. That interruption, at least, does take most of the steam out of Hikaru and he frowns. This is kind of embarrassing. His first day and he almost got into a fight with some random prince from some random magical land.

But at least he moves away from Zuko.]

[ Zuko didn't step back the second time Hikaru invades his space, and spreads his legs slightly in a more grounded, defensive stance. He's not tryna shounen-hero it up or anything, but he is getting his footing in case he needs to dodge this dumb boy's sure-to-be shitty punches.

Thankfully, it doesn't come to that. As the restaurant worker walks up and scolds them, Zuko stares at Hikaru more than the restaurant worker the whole time — he's not letting his guard down, that's a natural rule. Once the man walks away, and Zuko sees Hikaru's face fall, he lightens up his stance again, eyes narrowed, frowning back. ]

[ Thankfully for Hikaru, Zuko has no idea what that hand gesture means, but he figures he's got the gist of it. Also as an act of pure maturity, Zuko shouts back as Hikaru walks away. ]

Commoner scum! With a weak core!

[ Because he needs to have the last word. And wants that last word to sting — Hikaru deserved it, he felt, even if Zuko hated to hear himself sounding so much like his sister almost as soon as he said it. So adding that stressful thought to his plate... Ugh. Too much. As he walks back onto the beach, he passes an innocent, empty chair by the restaurant entrance, and in his frustration, can't help but have a very mature outburst. He angrily shoves the chair, just enough to loudly rattle it, before storming back out onto the sand. This whole interaction will be a learning experience in due time... eventually. Sometime. Probably not soon. But definitely not now. ]
