You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. After an hour or two of wandering through the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. Because of the strange phenomena during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay. You will then be escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the Iris moon and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as the local Prismals.

Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated. After a quick tour of the city, new arrivals can find themselves getting cozy in their new homes.

A Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.

Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

▶ You’re as Cold as Ice

Summer strikes Lunatia with record high temperatures as the city is wracked by an unnatural heatwave. Residents will feel the burn the moment they head outdoors, kissing their skin pink as it drenches them in sweat. For a hot and sticky day like this, it's the perfect time to head to Crystal Beach for a refreshing dip in the water. All sorts of new stands have popped up by the shore, selling icy treats and frozen cocktails.

The morning news recommends befriending those blessed by Cordis, who can keep people cool with their magic touch. They also warn of overheating machinery and electronics! Establishments and residences may end up dealing with broken air-modulating units if they use them too much.

Having cleared their names, Suzaku and Kaya of former *BTSB fame have decided to reform as a rock band duo called The Nine Tails after leaving their boyband roots. They will be performing their most chill new summer jam, “Fox Girl Summer,” while incorporating Cordis magic of their own to keep the listeners feeling cool and refreshed.

B Those listening to Kaya and Suzaku’s summer anthem might find their beats too chill to relax and party to. And by that, we mean literally. Ice may start to form around the limbs of happy local beachgoers, filling them with unfortunate shivers that will send them running into the arms of another Prismal to thaw. Even more troubling is that some portions of the oceanfront may also start to freeze, trapping some unsuspecting swimmers inside and leaving them in need of rescue. If anyone goes unnoticed, a Prismal lifeguard will be quick to rescue them.

In a panic, Kaya winks at Suzaku, who reassures his worried partner and ends their performance by summoning a mighty phoenix above the stage. Of course, it is only an illusion for the audience as Kaya thaws the partygoers and the ocean with his magic. Suzaku might have gotten carried away with their debut...

▶ Boom, Badoom, Boom, You Got that Super Bass

The heated beach waters have brought a large onslaught of aggressive super bass close to the shore. Needless to say, the boys with the booming system were not ready for the sudden and alarming increase in population of this particular fish. In response, the beach committee is hosting a fishing competition to see who can catch the largest super bass. They will be providing extremely durable fishing gear and sufficient bait to all worthy competitors, so come to the Crystal Pier with your best fishing know-how and try and break a record or two!

Due to the competition, job openings for lifeguards have become available. Their main task is to keep an eye on participants and the audience. They should be ready to pull them out in case they have trouble swimming back to the pier. Lifeguards will be provided official beach committee high-tech swimsuits (in the form of tankinis and speedos of your choice) that enhance their performance by allowing them to swim faster and breathe more easily underwater. In the dark ocean depths, they glow with patterns easily recognizable to the Prismal eye. They also accentuate the Moonblesseds’ assets very nicely.

C Although they are no different from sea bass in appearance, super bass are known for their monstrous strength and penchant for mischief. They like to fly in the air and slap whoever tries to catch them and their fellow fish with their tail fins. You think you like them better when they dolo? Think again. These fish will purposely grab a hold of something eye-catching such as rainbow-colored sea pearl or other treasures from the ocean and pull the unsuspecting fishers into the watery depths.

The city of Amegahara is in preparation for the annual Vulpus Astra Celebration which is coming up in a few weeks. This year is special as the foxes of Amegahara have never celebrated this occasion with the dragons of Lyestellus, making it the first time all three cities in the alliance will be celebrating together. This is all thanks to the Moonblessed, who not only healed their lands but also brought the Prismals closer.

And so for this special year, the upcoming event promises to be an even larger and more extravagant affair. In order to address the extremely high demand for traditional dress and other materials needed for the celebration, many job openings become available in Amegahara. Among these are tailors, glassblowers, florists, and dancers.

D The tailors will be sewing traditional clothes, such as lovely-patterned yukata, kimono, haori, and obi. Glassblowers will create pearl glass plates, cups, and trinkets such as hair accessories and festive souvenirs. Florists will be heading to work at Inari Highway’s greenhouses, caring for flowers and putting together flower crowns, colorful bouquets, and floral arrangements to use for street and interior decorations. It is encouraged to make use of pearl glass vases!

Lastly, dancers will be auditioning for a group of strict Amegaharan foxes who will not shy away from hurling insults if you underperform. The traditional Amegaharan dance features many layers of intricate fan work that is difficult to master, or dancers can choose to take part in the more uproarious Amegaharan drum dance. Be prepared for long and grueling rehearsals after passing auditions, where you will be forced to partner up with one another to bend each other’s bodies as flexibly as it could then dance until every single person in the room has the movements and timings memorized perfectly. Moonlacing will keep one another from collapsing in exhaustion, but your bruised ego may require more tender care.

As expected, it flusters Midorima. He may be more used to this world but he doesn't exactly go around wearing kink-wear. As expected too, he's going to throw the spanks right back at Takao's head even if he knows he'll expect them.

"Go to checkout without those before I buy only them for you!"

He sure does see them coming, catching them even as he doubles over to start laughing. It was worth it, so worth it the way Midorima bristled and threatens to buy only these for Takao.

"Remember where I'm sleeping before you do that." He gives the banter casually over his shoulder as he returns the item to the shelf and looks around for the check out so they can head that way.

"I doubt you can sleep through wearing those."

Midorima heads over to the counter and looks at a little keychain while Takao loads the counter up with what he wants. He ends up deciding to get the keychain, which he has her scan, then puts onto the cooler bag he's had tucked over his shoulder the whole time. He transfers his chroma over to the cashier as soon as everything's scanned.

"I don't think I want to try."

He likes his sleep; no thank you to anything that is going to vibrate and disrupt that. He raises an eyebrow at the keychain, curiosity killed the cat. Good thing Takao is a hawk and not a cat.

"Present for your girlfriend or boyfriend, huh?" He teases the shooter as he gathers up the clothes Midorima just bought for him. One it was all for him, two he is just used to carry things, habits are what habits are and Takao is not about to change that much in regards to these sorts of things.

"No. It looks like something that may have potential as a lucky item."

He holds it up to give Takao a closer look. Doesn't that seem like it could come in handy later?

Takao's face puffs up, not unlike the keychain, Midorima knows that face and as they walk from the store the point guard goes into a fit of the snickering. Oh this best friend of his, always interesting.

"That thing is so ugly it's almost cute." And of course, it had potential as a lucky item so he bought it, he simply wouldn't be Midorima if he didn't. Had he paid better attention and seen exactly it looked like, he would have known, still would have teased though.

"You know as well as I do that items with unique expressions like this are likely to be useful."

Unique expressions, sure. Midorima turns to the convenience store on the way home.

"Come. We still need to get you a toothbrush and things, then we can go home."

"I'm not arguing the fact, I support your weirdness Shin-chan." Even he owns that there may be a little something to it, if nothing else it gives him fodder for teasing his friend and if it gets them a little extra luck, all the better.

"Don't forget something I can fix for breakfast, you can't go to basketball practice on sweets." Then we can go home, that sounds so funny to Takao at the same time, it sounds better than what he thought he would be doing tonight, which is sharing space with a complete stranger. At least he can feel safe. At the word come of course he is already following along; it's not even a question anymore, is it?

Midorima stays quiet for a moment, pondering, before he decides the following:

"No, we'll go grocery shopping tomorrow. I intend to text Weiss that I don't have groceries for breakfast tomorrow morning."

She makes yummy breakfast... Midorima pushes up his glasses after that statement.

It is such a Midorima response that Takao can not help himself, he laughs. He would imitate his friend but he won't take the teasing that far because he is truly happy for him. How he feels about Weiss is clear as day to the point guard even from this interaction.

"Shin-chan in love, I didn't know it was possible." He has to get a little teasing in, he would not be him if he didn't.

"Who said anything about love!?"

Yeah, he's immediately huffing. He hasn't said that to anyone and frankly, he doesn't plan on it. Especially not after losing Eichi like it was nothing, and having no way to really mourn or deal with it.

"I'm not so much of a fool to fall in love with anyone in a world where we can all disappear at a moment's notice and reappear later with no memories of that person, if at all."

And yet he's well aware he has strong feelings, ones that make him feel like he's being gutted at that very concept. Even if he tried to keep his voice even with that, there's a twinge of what he's going through right now obvious in the deep, serious tone of his voice.

"We're going home in silence if you're going to keep saying irresponsible things."

He turns into the convenience store for now, though.

He has to snicker, really because come on Midorima, lie to yourself, but Takao is not falling for it. With or without a steady voice, the point guard sees through it, the same as he did the hurt the other is feeling.

It's okay, he may be teasing now, but he is also there as a shoulder or a poke in the ribs when he needs it. It's a win-win of sorts, right? He keeps pace with Midorima's slightly longer stride despite the back and forth and his laughing. Because most of it is what it has been since they set out on this errand, Takao trying to distract Midorima, considering he is being threatened with the silent treatment he is maybe, kind of sort of succeeding. Maybe he should have bought the spanks and used those as fodder the whole way home instead.

"My bad, I forgot you're the Ice King besides I am just an irresponsible guy." It is a tease, his voice says it all, he won't use the love word again. Tonight. He makes no future promises because this is who he is. He is also pretty far from irresponsible, yeah he likes to have a good time but most days he has his crap together at least.

Irresponsible isn't a word he would normally use for Takao, but right now it seems irresponsible to him. He'll understand it eventually. Midorima once upon a time had fantastical notions about that sort of thing being the only reason to be with someone, and that he would rather be with the person he wanted to be with while he could than accept that they were likely to disappear and leave him behind.

When he's less hurt, he'll come to the same conclusion. But right now, it's too raw. It hurts, as loathe as he is to admit it, and he has no idea how to recompense himself right now. Even if they aren't talking about Eichi right now, it hurts. The idea that he might go through this again with Weiss, and possibly more confusingly with Kise one day isn't something he wants to fall into right now.

Hence, the man who is responsible for taking care of Midorima more often than not is, just this once, irresponsible.

"You can tell me all about how responsible you're being after you lose someone here. Go grab a toothbrush and paste, I'll get a hair brush, shampoo, and conditioner."

They're all in the same aisle.

Hopefully, Takao being around will help with this, a friend is definitely a good thing to have in a place that is so unpredictable and if there is one thing Takao is good at, it's being Midorima's friend. He has it down to an art, honestly.

He mentally kicks himself, his joke may have gone too far, and yes it was irresponsible of him, he is usually more cautious of Midorima's honest feelings. Only teasing him with those things that won't hurt him. His silence after Midorima's next words is his apology.

"Okay." Off he goes, picking up each item he reads it first to be sure. He has had enough surprises for today and he does not want to get home and brush his teeth to find out he has bought some weird sex brush or something.

He is a quick read so it does not take him long and he is back with that same devilish smirk.

"All set." After they get this settled, Takao will be back to taking care of Midorima, he likes that job better than being the one taken care of. It's a natural fit for him. His continued, compliance and almost silence are just a little extra I'm sorry for being a dumbass.

Midorima makes quick work of the hair care. It's the same brand that he buys, so there really wasn't much point in getting it besides stocking up for when they inevitably run out. The brush is a different colored handle, however, and he grabs a bar of soap from a display case on the way up to the front that's different from his own at home as well. The last thing he needs to think about is Takao washing his ass with his bar. It's an unscented, white bar with moisturizing beads in it. (Midorima's is, of course, green.) Anything more advanced than this and Takao can save up for it or share something Midorima already has, but this should cover the basics until he's on his feet.

"Anything else?"

He's not arguing with Takao about the brands. These ones he knows to be safe.

Separate soap is a definite must, there are some things best friends can share, things that touch a naked body like soap should not be among those. Takao is in fact not arguing the brands, he has no idea what is good here and what is not. It's why he read the packages on his items, better safe than sorry.

He will be working hard on getting on his feet, he is not a laydown type of guy so as weirded out as he is, he will find himself and make the best of this place that he possibly can.

"No, I should be able to survive with this." He is more than set, Takao may be the usual caretaker but his friend reminds him just how kind he is under all that pompous attitude because he has down a good job today of being the rock in their partnership.

So much so he is not going to complain too much about his shoelaces.

"You're just lucky you didn't make Merlin mess up my shoes."

"Merlin would have to be at it for an hour before he actually caused damage to your laces."

His bark is bigger than his bite, for sure. The only thing he ever really does damage to is the paper sliding door upstairs.

That's a tale that he can't explain to Takao, or anyone, ever, so Takao will simply have to experience it himself whenever he tries to get some privacy from Merlin for the first time.

Once they're all checked out, he turns to head out of the store and falls quiet.

"Luckily he's cute enough to get away with it." Yes, he is teasing, saying that Merlin is obviously cuter than Midorima. As for paper doors, Takao would like this not to happen.

However, he may laugh himself into a coma if it does because that is a hilarious experience. He would not like to hear this first hand from Midorima however, all things considered, he'll have to experience it himself.

He is thinking as they walk, carrying packages with little thought, he's used to it. Almost misses the cart right this moment however he won't tell Midorima that.

Instead, he falls in step with the shooter, he doesn't have to look at him to really look at him and Takao is keeping an eye, ready with a quip if he thinks his thoughts go too far inside while they walk home.

[ Midorima stays quiet during most of the walk home, but only because he's thinking about how to even go about explaining things to Takao. Why he's so weird and why he wants to retreat. Why he's grateful Takao showed up now of all times, as if he knew that Midorima really needed him right now.

None of these feelings are things he can voice, so it's going to take him a while to decide on exactly how to discuss this. He doesn't even know where to start, so he just stays quiet unless Takao says something first, until it's time to unlock the door. Merlin of course is there to greet them. ]

I think there is an extra storage box in the closet for now. Don't leave your things strewn all over the room.

[ If this becomes more permanent, they can discuss options for making this a more.. two-person-friendly place. Or finding somewhere bigger. ]

[He does not say anything the rest of the way back because it's simple. What is left to be said are the things Midorima is working out in his head, as long as he can talk about his hurt he does not have to come clean to Takao about being glad he showed up when he did.

For Takao it will click in place, maybe this place sucks but clearly it knew what was needed when it was needed. He may not like it here but it will give him one clear reason for him being here that does not involve Moons.

The point guard manages the bags and squats to give the pup a pet.]

You're so cute. [Then he looks up at Midorima.]

I think you've spent enough time at training camp with me to know I'm not sloppy.

[His parents raised him right, though he will not think about that because then he thinks about his sister and it all hurts. Better to focus on the here and now, he deposits the bags and goes to retrieve the storage box. All this after switching from his shoes of course. He'll go ahead and put things away neatly. Few more minutes for his friend to get his head right.

Then, he's doing what Takao does best, popping up behind Midorima and slinging an arm around his shoulder, even if he has to go tiptoe to do it.]

You're quiet, even for you Shin-chan.

[Have a little poke, a friendly reminder as it is.]

[ He considers arguing that training camp is temporary, Takao could be a mess at home and he wouldn't know it. But the topic is back to his quietness, highlighted by the heavy breathing of Merlin's excitement at them being home as Merlin tails Takao, the new person who Midorima is more comfortable around than anyone Merlin has ever met. Which is saying something because the green hair shooter looks plenty annoyed at his dangling partner. ]

A person I shared a lot with disappeared from this world. His phone stopped connecting yesterday and I confirmed it with the moon knights. I was going to lose him one way or the other, so it's ridiculous to be upset about it.

[ and yet it's undeniable that he is. ]

[He'll find out, he may be a persistent shit but he is not a bad houseguest. Takao grins at Merlin, he'll make sure the pup gets some extra love. But first, he has a best friend to attend. Really, glaring annoyed isn't going to move the point guard, he's endured worse Midorima. Though the shooter is aware of that, if he really wanted Takao to move he could make it happen.

He's quiet while Midorima talks, it's such a Midorima way to put it. Blunt to the point, gruff even. Except, he knows, he's only that way because he is upset. It hurts and Midorima is going to struggle with that. He doesn't let many people close, Merlin's excitement over someone who can get as close as Takao is evidence of that, so losing someone he was attached to. Takao knows his heart is broken, it breaks the point guard's a little too. He isn't pushy about it but he sits his chin on Midorima's shoulder. Careful how he breathes because there is no repeat of earlier happening here.]

I think I'd cry if it was me, even if you know you're going to lose them, doesn't mean you're ready for it. Had to be an amazing person, no one gets past Shin-chan's line of defense. [Before Takao, he is glad people here have as well or this could have been a much harder year on his friend.]

Tell me about it, since I missed out on meeting him?

[ Part of him wants to cry. He decides to neither confirm nor deny that. Takao hadn't asked, so Midorima isn't going to provide that answer. He pries Takao off of him finally and starts heading upstairs. ]

Let's set up your futon.

[ He will tell him, but it'll be easier if he's got something to do with his hands and Takao isn't latched onto him. ]

His name was Eichi Tenshouin. The piano in the living room was given to me the second time he met, and I told him off for attempting to buy me off and invading my space without permission.

[ If that tells Takao anything about the kind of person Eichi was. ]

[He goes without complaint, scooping up Merlin once his arms are free he gives the pup a nuzzle and follows behind Midorima. If he cries he does, Takao will not tease him about that. Not this time, it's different from the first loss, different than the second time too.

He'll do what he can to cheer him up once he's gotten it off his chest as best he can. There's a faint flicker of a fond smile to Takao's lips, that sounds just like the kind of person needed to get through to Midorima and handle his quirks. Takao would know, he thinks he would have liked this guy, at least from what he is hearing so far.]

A piano, that's not a bad idea, I may have to try that after I get an application approved.

[He will let Midorima continue, he 's just filling the space of time while they walk.]

[ Midorima gets the spare futon out of his closet and starts preparing it on the floor beneath his own bed, moving Merlin's dog bed and a bunch of stuffed animals that Merlin likes to cuddle with (and Midorima sometimes uses as lucky items). ]

You can't afford to throw money away on a grand piano, Takao. He was likely the richest moonblessed in Prismatica. He owned an apartment building and an entertainment agency. [ A brief pause and then Midorima adds: ] As well as being a.. prolific moonlacer.

[ Midorima is well aware that he was not the only one that Eichi was with. By far. But he likes to think that there was something between them more than with other people. As complicated as it was, he was fairly certain that Eichi returned the feeling. ]

He was the type who lived every day like it was his last. He put more effort than he was physically capable of handling into everything he did.

[ He's not dead yet, Midorima.. genuinely hopes, but talking about him in past tense is helping Midorima process that he's gone. He's not looking at Takao as he sets up the futon, not asking Takao to do it himself because he wants to focus on it while he talks. But that's OK, Merlin is licking Takao's chin while they talk so at least someone is looking at Takao. ]
