"Blue Oyster Cult - Shooting Shark" (Watch on YouTube)

You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. Even the few shy moon creatures you find in the wild have strange crystal growths on their hides. This is far from home— perhaps a dream? You pinch your skin and slap your cheeks, yet nothing seems to do the trick. Searching for answers yields nothing but an endless expanse of purple dust as far as the eye can see. You have four options: one, panic; two, soil yourself; three, admire it all then soil yourself; or four, go into survival mode. Eventually, you’ll realize that you’re not alone.

▶ Keep all Hands and Feet inside the Burning Vehicle at all Times
Iris Moon, Government Center (Arrival) and Outer Space | top

After a day or two of living off the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. After the strange phenomenon during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.

You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? Why did I mix tequila with xanax last night? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay.

While waiting for transport to be prepared, you may freely roam around the government center. Eventually you’re called back from exploring, escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the moons and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as Prismal locals. The next destination: Prismatica.

A. After settling into the ship and selecting the current in-flight movie, Back Door Slugs 9, you and those around you may eventually feel a bit of turbulence during the movie’s highly anticipated climax. Did anyone notice it, or is everyone too focused on the hot characters?

At first, it’s a small jitter that’s easy to miss or brush off. But as the transport vessel travels on, the shaking progressively escalates to erratic tremors strong enough to cause severe nausea. A minute later, a voice over the speaker announces the ship will have to make an emergency landing, citing technical difficulties.

Sparks can be seen overhead as more ship parts malfunction. This is a good time to hold your neighbor’s hand, say your last goodbyes, and apologize for that horrible thing you did in the sixth grade. Grip your seat with the might of every god you can think of.

B. Another minute later, a follow-up announcement states that external entities have breached the transport vessel. Everyone is warned to be careful and watch out for each other. Small fires will have to be put out before they worsen with either magic or emergency equipment onboard such as extinguishers. In-flight robotic attendants will be scuttling around to perform immediate repairs.

Eventually, an entire power panel bursts, and prismatic jellyfish unnaturally spill out. The jellyfish will try to latch and suction onto any technological devices close by such as the television screens on the seats or communicators and will show preference to Iris Moonblessed over the rest. Be ready to help and pull numerous jellyfish off both the faces of Moonblessed and Prismals!

▶ Jaws IV: Jaws Harder
Planet Prismatica, Outer Lunatia | top

The emergency landing successfully completes and the transport vessel will safely land on top of a gorgeous lake filled with tiny glaciers floating by. When reached out and touched, you’ll find out that the “glaciers” are surprisingly cool crystals and not ice.

The ship will be left hovering idly on the water surface while passengers are ferried to solid ground using portable emergency boats. However, civilization is still a distance away.

A. You’ve probably heard of flying sharks from a veteran Moonblessed. But how about sea lions? These aquatic lions are born with scaly skin and gills outside of their crystallized manes. Unfortunately, they haven’t tasted fresh meat in quite some time. If there are any injured onboard or near your boat, the chances of the sea lions detecting people will be higher as they are drawn to the scent of blood. Growling hungrily, they will be quick to latch onto the boats, biting the edges, and trying to knock everyone overboard for dinner.

After surviving through so far, the Prismals guide everyone to a nearby encampment run by humanoid rabbits. They are tall, built, and have a habit of mentioning their virility an awkward amount of times. They are also generous and will share their game meat and fresh crops while allowing everyone to rest for the night at the only inn in their village.

B. There is no running water all the way out here, so if anyone wants a bath, they’ll have to do it traditionally. The village protects a natural spring, which is a good place to bathe away the sea water. Around the spring, the rabbit folk’s friends — little scintilla chinchillas — will shock away any predators that dare to approach their sanctuary! Be at ease and feel free to offer your friends shampoo massages.

The next day, the rabbits can be seen hacking away at some of the wilder-looking plants for an easier pathway. If you wake up early enough, you can ask some of them for a tour of the beautiful greenery. They mention that it’s thanks to the Moonblessed that their crops have been doing so well lately — the result of all the chroma influx. The rest of the journey to the city will be smooth sailing.

Level 2, City of Lunatia | top

Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated. After a quick tour of the city, new arrivals can find themselves getting cozy in their new homes.

A. Find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.

Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.

B. A new high-end boutique, Prissy Polyp, has opened in Level 2. As compensation for what happened, both Moonblessed and Prismals that were affected in yesterday’s flight will receive 50% off their total purchase. Those unaffected will receive 30% discount coupons as a promotional gift. All are encouraged to visit with their friends or special someone, try on some things together, ~~enjoy each other in the fitting rooms~~, and deal with the loud, ear-blistering background pop music.

Their clothing collections are characterized by bright iridescent designs, some features such as design patterns may glow ethereally in the dark. One of their signature dresses features a one piece (also available on their trench coats) that can amplify the appearance of one’s decolletage, gluteal muscles, and/or bulge with the press of a neon button. Another item among their collection is the maiden sweater: a sleek, backless sweater that shocks those who attempt unwanted touches. Others include skin-tight leggings (also available on their shorts or pants) which produce pleasant and relaxing vibrations on all lower extremities and fashionable polyp-shaped hats for all kinds of people. It’s a huge shop, you never know what else to find in there.

Luffy is tired and bored and when he gets to his apartment he feels a presence inside and he's ready to fight. He hasn't had a real fight in what seems like forever!

So he kicks the door open and stretches his arms to the body curled up under is blankets, but when he pulls them out he gasps.

Probably not asleep anymore, but there he is. His dead brother.

"Dreaming, yup."

He puts the blanket down again, turning around and going to the kitchen, where he takes a glass of milk and drinks it, trying to wake himself up from his nightmare. He probably passed out from lack of chroma, yeah, probably.

Ace doesn't wake up right off, it's Ace after all, and his odd sleeping habits are as legendary as his appetite. But after a moment he forces himself up with a groan, and wanders into the kitchen to try to scrounge up something to eat. He rubs his eyes, and stretches, before casually greeting his brother.

"Oh, hey Luffy."

And then he jerks, eyes widening. "Luffy! You're here!"

Luffy, with tears in his eyes, lets the glass drop on the floor. He stretches his arms and wraps them twice around Ace's shoulders, pulling himself forwards and crushing him in a hug.

"Aaaaace!" He's sobbing loudly, snot coming out of his nose, "Ace!"

Ace braces, and then clings to Luffy when he's all but assaulted with a hug. Even if Luffy is gross crying on him, even if Ace is starting to cry, this feels impossibly good and he doesn't want this to ever end. Nothing feels quite as good as second chances do, and his brother's touch is incredibly warm and good.

"It's okay, Luffy. I'm here. "

It's okay now, at least. Ace himself is still dealing with considerable trauma connected to his life, death, and unexpected salvation. If he even died at all, that is. For him, the timeline between life and death is blurry and all he knows is that he's here and so is his little brother. So regardless of what happened in that past world that wanted Ace dead just for living, this is a welcomed new start.

Luffy knows now tat he's not dreaming, for sure, because this is Ace e's touching! He's warm, so warm, and it feels so different from the last time they were together.

"Ace!" He sniffs, still clinging to his brother, "Ace! You died!"

He sobs once more, and then sniffs again, "I even told Tama you died! She's going to be so mad!"

"I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have left you like that."

As if he had any choice in that matter. One of them was going to die that day. And if it wasn't Ace, it absolutely would have been Luffy. And Ace would die a thousand times if it meant that his little brother would live on. Luffy, who loved him no matter what, was worth every moment of pain and sacrifice for.

"Wait, Tama? You made it there, even! Damn, Luffy. You just don't stop."

Ace just squeezes out of Luffy's grip enough to put his own arms around his brother too. They make a fine tangle together, and gods, he didn't realize how much he missed being close to him.

Luffy sniffles and nods, smiling against Ace's shoulder.

"I made it to Wano! My whole crew is there, and Torao and his crew too." He sniffles again, blinking some of the tears away.

"How come you're here?" He starts to untangle from Ace's body, his arms slowly going back to their regular size.

Ace is so proud of Luffy. In however long he's been gone, dead, it's so hard to even think about, Luffy has done so much and gone so far. Ace is so glad that he's succeeding and thriving. Ace knows that he'd be useless if he'd been the one to lose Luffy. And his own weakness is apparent to him in this moment.

The question makes him pause, though. And he doesn't know what to say.

"I dunno. The last thing I remembered was..." Was Luffy holding him, as he was dying. "It doesn't make sense. But I guess anyone can end up here, no matter what shape they were in back home.

Luffy laughs quietly, wanting nothing more than to touch Ace, wanting to keep touching him. There's the fear on the back of his head that Ace will disappear otherwise.

"It's been a bit over two years for me," Luffy smiles, "So I'm almost as old as you and Sabo!" He laughs, and then gasps, "Wait, but Sabo is still older!"

"Two years?"

Shit. Shit. He really did die. Ace's stomach turns and the noise it makes is audible. He feels panic rise up in his throat and he's fighting off a reaction that he doesn't want at all and that doesn't make sense. He's fine with his death, he died for a reason, he'd do it again and again, anything for his brother but-Sabo? Why the hell is he bringing up Sabo?

Was Luffy damaged in the battle after Ace died, somehow? And it affected his mind? "Luffy... Sabo is dead. Remember?"

Luffy frowns, worried about Ace's reaction. Then he asks about Sabo.

"Oh! No, Sabo is alive! Apparently he had magnesia, you know, when you forget everything?" He smiles, "I saw him in Dressrosa! He-"

That's when he realizes. Tears come back to his eyes, how can he tell Ace his fruit had appeared again?

And goodness, just like that Ace is tearing up again. Not because he's upset, by any means, but because Sabo is alive. And that means Luffy still has a big brother out there to take care of him. Ace wipes his face quickly, and tries to hide that he's tearing up. He figures he's shown an embarrassing amount of weakness to Luffy already.

"I dunno about magnesia, but I think sometimes if you get hurt you can lose your memories that way! Do you think that's what happened to him, when we thought he-" Ace cuts himself off, wipes his face again, and grins. "I'm so glad he's there for you. It's okay, Luffy. I'm so happy he's alive."

Luffy sniffles, smiling with tears in his eyes.

"Me too! I hugged him as tight as I hugged you here when I realized it was him! He's really strong too shishishi."

"Well yeah, it's Sabo. He's going to be crazy strong, there's no doubt about it."

Ace shakes his head, and beams. He wants to know all about their brother, who Ace was certain was dead. Finding out that Sabo survived makes his heart ache in a good way. And he really hopes that he's happy back home. "So what's he like? Does he act like he used to?"

Luffy laughs, nodding along with Ace's words. He jumps on the kitchen counter, sitting with his legs crossed on top of it and smiles.

"He's so cool! His hair is longer now, and he smiles a lot!" Luffy puts his hands on his ankles, his smile never fading, "He's part of the Revolutionary Army and he took my place in the Coliseum and! He's suuuuuper powerful!" Not like Luffy had seen him fighting, but Sabo had won, hadn't he? "Oh, oh! He wears a cool hat too! Not as awesome as mine, but it's really cool!"

Ace's heart feels like it's going to burst open. There's so much happiness and raw emotions and he feels stolen from a little too. Sabo lived, and Ace can't meet him. There's a line between them now that can't be crossed. And he's trying to imagine through Luffy's description what he looks like, longer hair, smiling often. And it's just not enough for him to get a good mental image from. He'll ask for more details later, but for now, he'll just grin and listen to Luffy talk about their brother.

"He sounds like a badass. So the two of you were hanging around the Coliseum right? Felt like testing your skills together?"

And he's a Revolutionary too, with a cool hat! They're the hat brothers! Ace feels so amazed at Sabo, he survived and grew up to be fantastic despite that magnesia issue.

"No! I was trying to win the mera mera because it was important that none of Doflamingo's people got it, and when it was my last fight Zoro came and told me Doflamingo was doing bad things so I had to leave but couldn't leave the fruit behind! Then Sabo came in and he said he'd take my place because he could win it too!"

Luffy laughs, happily.

"He ate it too! Apparently he fought really well, but I was fighting Doflamingo with Torao so I couldn't really see him, but Robin spoke to him and--"

And he had just told Ace exactly what he had tried to avoid saying before.

I was trying to win the mera mera

It's another jarring remember that Ace actually died, when moments before arriving he was still clinging to the last bits of life he had, making sure to tell Luffy just how grateful he was for every bit of love he'd gotten. But then his heart warms again at Sabo getting his fruit, and he's about to say something else about that but it really hits him. He still has his fruit.

"Luffy, look." Ace raises up a finger, which ignites. He doesn't know how he can still do this, if he died.

Luffy gasps, and tries to grab the fire, remembering then that he'll get burnt if he does.

"You still have your power!" He laughs, and tips his head to the side, thinking, "That's so awesome! How come you and Sabo both have it?"

"It's okay. It won't burn you. You remember, you didn't get touched by my fire when we fought together, right? Nothing burns unless I want it to. And I'll never hurt you."

Still, this makes him wonder. "I showed up here healed. I don't even have a mark on me. But the last thing I remembered..." Ace shakes his head. "Maybe they grabbed me up before I died, and just kinda fixed me? That might explain it." But he's still not sure.

Luffy smiles bright and big, and hides his blushing face with his hat. "You're an amazing brother."

Luffy hums, and puts his hat back to scratch his head, "That would be pretty cool! That means you never died before getting here!"

"Well, yeah, of course! A big brother's gotta be more amazing than his little brother, right? So with how great you are, I'd have to be pretty amazing naturally." He doesn't feel amazing. He doesn't feel worthy of Luffy's love. But now that he's got him back, and they can be together here, he's going to make sure to do better this time than he did in the last life.

"I think so... I mean, I can't figure out any other way for it to be possible. Can you?"

Luffy laughs, happy and loud. "All that matter is that you're with me now!"

He stands on the counter and jumps down, smiling at Ace. "Let's go! I gotta show you all the places I've been to! "

He's about to turn around when he extends his hand, "You gotta hold hands a lot in this place, so hold mine!"

"Yeah! Show me everywhere you like, so I know where to go."

Ace doesn't know why they've gotta hold hands a lot here, but he does know that after what he went through, he has no interest in denying Luffy anything. So he indulges his brother, taking his hand and squeezing warmly, only to feel that intense sensation again. It's so good, warm and delightful and soothing. It's the same feeling he had during their hug.

"So hand holding is the way to go, huh?"

"They have delicious food everywhere! You'll love it!"

Luffy smiles, and squishes the hand between his, and pulls Ace along to show him everything he knows.
