▶ TDM .011
You awaken amidst the darkness with only a faint light to greet you. Your body is hemmed in by shards of crystals, gently sparkling and possibly pricking your skin. The surrounding landscape is dyed in the pinks and purples of the dusk filled with crystals protruding from the ground, some as large as a skyscraper. After an hour or two of wandering through the crystal wilderness, a group of people find you worse for wear. They are the gallant Moon Knights from the planet of Prismatica. Because of the strange phenomena during the past months when scientists observed the sudden appearance of rainbow crystals in the sky, the government has been feverishly combing through the moon for more Moonblessed to be rescued. You’ll eventually be brought into Iris’s moon government center.
You all may have your usual inquiries — Where are we? Who are you? What's going on? — and the Prismals are almost too eager to answer. They tell you about their world and about the first appearance of the Moonblessed as the medical staff give you an examination to make sure you’re not carrying any viruses or biological hazards. If you react violently, you may be restrained and nerfed with a specialized neurotransmitting gun that releases a numbing agent through the top of your spine. Once the examinations are over, you’re informed that you will be provided accommodations on their planet during your stay. You will then be escorted to the docks, and led onto a large transport vessel that makes frequent trips back and forth between the Iris moon and the planet. Faces onboard vary from both old and new Moonblessed as well as the local Prismals.
The next destination: Prismatica.

Iris Moon, Government Center (Arrival) and Planet Prismatica, City of Lunatia | top
Welcome to Prismatica’s hub, Lunatia, the city of your dreams! A bustling metropolis lush with bright lights, vibrant colors, luxuriant plant life, and all the conveniences of technology absent from your own world… It seems like paradise to all the uninitiated. After a quick tour of the city, new arrivals can find themselves getting cozy in their new homes.

▶ God Save Us from the Queen
Level 1, PrismaPlace and Level 2, Greatmoon Groves | top
The first month of the year is packed with two of the most important winter events this season: Queen Elara’s birthday and the League Match Action Online (LmaO) PVP semi-finals. It just so happens that the Queen of Lunatia is also a huge LmaO fan. Coincidence? Definitely not! LmaO players and royal family fans alike can meet her at PrismaPlace, where she will be appearing in cosplay of her favorite hero, Ah-Kari, while holding a body pillow of Commander GareBear. You, too, can get an autograph or selfie with the birthday girl if you’re willing to fall in line! Her bodyguards will also be in LmaO cosplay, keeping the crowd under control during the long wait.
Queen Elara
Good day to you all! This may come as a surprise to our guests the Moonblessed, but I am a normal person despite my exalted position. Please do not think of me today as Queen Elara. Instead... my name is Ah-Kari, sorceress of the crystal! With my soul fan blades, through the darkness, I shall slice all who dare hurt my commander in twain!
But when she is not meeting and greeting...
... she will be furiously grinding her character and training her skills in LmaO in the hopes of qualifying for the finals. Spectators will see her bring her own team full of hapless palace attendants who are there to either serve as her practice match partners or provide support to the one-woman army that is Queen Elara.
PrismaPlace is packed with giant crowds, many of them also in cosplay. While the semi-finals are taking place, new and old LmaO players alike can participate in the game’s current campaign: players who form teams get an improved chance of spawning unique monsters as well as winning rare items and skins in those prized lootboxes! Teams can also try to clear the event’s story together, featuring an aerial battle fought on griffin-back, which is heavily inspired by the popular Lunatian epic, The Battle of Abraxas, a colorful and complex story about the conflict between two families fighting over the fictional land of griffins, Abraxas.

▶ Say Cheese
Level 3, Caihong | top
Meanwhile, Caihong is in the midst of Remooning festivities in celebration of the new year, and merriment usually lasts a fortnight, filled with fireworks in the sky. Upon entering the district, beautiful Prismals with rat ears and tails greet you with a Happy Remooning and eagerly tug you along to join in.
Those welcomed will receive a pack of multi-colored sparklers, mooncakes topped with cheese, and a glowing drink called Champagne Supernova, poured in a thin glass in your hand. If you are over eighteen, the rat Prismals will ask if you prefer your drink with a kick. If you say yes, then they will add flavorful ice that causes extreme intoxication and might leave you to be susceptible to all levels of suggestion. Saying no (or if you’re under 18) will simply leave it as a sweet drink.

A Settle in your new home at Level 2 to find new roommates and say hello to your neighbors! City officials will give you directions to the designated districts across Level 2 and instruct you to pick out a unit. Each apartment complex has a different aesthetic, some may look cozy, some stylish, and some bizarre. The free accommodations have a basic living space that can only fit two or three people at most in one unit.
Starter Chromaspace furnishings are provided which can be controlled with the touch of a built-in panel. Examples are color-changing curtains, transforming sofa beds, cabinets turning into tables, etc. Customizing your apartment or moving out will have to wait until you earn more chroma. Until then, why don’t you check out your new neighborhood or explore the city levels? Maybe your new roommates or neighbors can give you a “hand” with allowance for dinner.
B As a Remooning gift from the Lunar Scientia Headquarters, the dedicated team from the Amphoria Room has released their latest perfected technology: Amphoria Pods. These VR Pods, which can fit up to four people at a time, have been set up in the gaming hub within Level 1’s PrismaPlace. They allow users to upload sceneries of their world in order to create a realistic holographic landscape of their homes that others can access and play around with, granting everyone the means to relive past memories with their loved ones as well as interact with the bestiary of other worlds. The pods also use the same technology that enhanced the popular virtual game, League Match Action Online (LmaO), which means you’re liable to feel the chill of cold environments, the burning heat from boiling water, the hard slap of your ex-lover, or the biting sting of a stray wasp. All who use the Amphoria Pods for the first time this year will also receive a small amount of Chroma in case things get too real.

My comrades, we're going to make history today. We're going for a new record. Perhaps the highest kill counts or the fastest clear for this map — it matters not. We’ve practiced day and night for this tournament, so let us show everyone that we’re not to be taken lightly! Also, the livestream is going in the royal archive, so make your successors proud!!

A Progression in the event requires acquiring a griffin mount and getting it ready for battle. You can lure a wild one to yourself with a special veggie pie on a fishing pole. Should the griffin reject the lure, your character will be caught in a wind gaol and can only break out with the help of other players. Should you succeed, raising the griffin is a tedious task that involves players training alongside their respective griffins, running laps with them, taking them to hunt monsters, and feeding them properly. Depending on their diet, the food you give them will affect the color of its plumage and their battle stats.
Or you can skip the hard work and simply moonlace with your teammates through all the progression bars and required materials to save time. Once finished, you’ll be able to battle one another through the thunderous aerial domain of Abraxas. Clearing the event will net you an event-exclusive skin inspired by the royal family’s shining celestial robes and a weapon skin of a body pillow with your favorite character, so do your best!
B In celebration of Queen Elara’s birthday, the office of the royal household is hosting a modest tea party in the Greatmoon Groves. Swiffy bots that are normally programmed to remind visitors to keep the groves clean are now playing a birthday jingle on repeat. For people who prefer to be away from the blinding neon lights and the thumping techno music of PrismaPlace, this is the ideal escape. Unlimited tea and cookies are being served!
The tea is a soft-colored lilac concoction made from Ehrysian tea leaves that are known to cause a huge spike of alertness and is popular to Moon Knights and office workers with long night shifts as well as gamers for those all-night grinding sessions. The assorted cookies have either Ah-Kari or Commander GareBear printed on them. In case it isn't obvious yet, both are the birthday girl’s favorite LmaO characters.
Any Moonblessed looking for extra income is welcome to be royal attendants for the day; the hours are paid by Demichroma. They must be properly dressed up as maids or butlers (outfits provided by the royal household) as they serve tables.

Saying no (or if you’re under 18) will simply leave it as a sweet drink.
A One of the party games being played by the locals is called Lucky Tail, which is basically pinning the tail on the holographic rat stand-in — with a twist, it must be played with a partner! Another participant will blindfold you, spin you around, then push you forward. The stand-in is located at the end of unsteady elevated platforms forming a maze, filled to the brim with distracting objects underneath. They’re long, they’re thick, and they’re vibrating furiously in an attempt to knock you off the platforms.
Your partner must guide you by voice to successfully navigate through the maze! The game is rigged with various mechanisms, so stepping on specific platforms will activate a number of traps against you or your partner: machines that may tickle, drop colorful slime, or cause the platform to repetitively spin, and who knows what else?
Should you manage to get through the obstacle course and pin the tail successfully, you and your partner will win copious amounts of Demichroma, courtesy of Buwan from Buwan’s Stop.
B Another attraction is a fun magic glamour booth known for its face or body swap features. The booth staff, clad in their festive rat paraphernalia, will encourage you and your friends to take aesthetic shots using an illusion generator. The effects last an hour. Photographed images can be instantly uploaded and shared in Prismagram. New year, new you! Why not take the chance to celebrate this momentous occasion in a unique fashion? It’s all in good humor.
There are two buttons to press: (A) CUSTOM or (B) RANDOM. Pressing A will allow participants to customize their desired effects. Pressing B will cause the illusion magic to randomly rearrange participants in questionable positions, new outfits (or lack thereof), and you may even come out of the booth looking like your best friend or your worst rival. The possibilities are endless!

If you have somewhere to be I completely understand, but I'm going to find something to eat. You're welcome to join me.
[ Fucking or feasting has been narrowed down to the latter, not a bad option. ]
no subject
Oh, hah, no. Nowhere pressing to be. I'm just learning the ropes, you know. Getting settled in. I'll gladly take you up on that invitation, if you're quite sure you don't mind.
[It's only when the half-orc mentions it that he realises he is hungry. That he can't quite remember the last time he ate...and that he really ought to find something with which to keep his mouth busy.]
no subject
[ A frisson of actual pleasure runs up his arm when Julian takes it, the Chroma effect warming the touch even through his sleeve and bracer. Timely, that. ]
There's certainly a lot to take in, this is wholly unlike anywhere on the continent of Wildemount. I'm hoping they sell fire-whiskey somewhere. [ His companion gets a glance as they take to the bustling streets, fireworks a few blocks down casting Julian's fiery hair in purples and oranges. Pretty. ] What do you like to eat?
no subject
Julian listens as they walk, glances upwards with an appreciative laugh as the fireworks light the sky, then quickly casts his gaze in his companion's direction. As first weeks go in a strange new world, this certainly beats the last one he found himself flung into.]
Fire-whiskey, eh? Can't say I've ever heard of it, but I would like to try it.
[Because 'fire' and 'whiskey' together in a name can only be a good thing, right?]
And oh, let me see. I'm rather partial to seafood. Lobster most of all, but! When visiting a new place, one ought to try the local delicacies.
no subject
Two sailors who enjoy their seafood, we really are original.
[ It's nice to have things in common so easily, catching Julian's eye and letting a fond look take over. Perhaps, as bad as Fjord is at judging characters, they could be friends. ]
I never thought I would say this, but let's try some of the rat-people dishes. [ That sounds so fucking bad and he looks grim at his own wording for Julian's amusement. ] There has to be something meatier around here ...
no subject
[He grins, returns the look with a conspirational one with his own; for all his propensity for making bad judgements himself, it seems to have no impact on his willingness to fall into easy camaraderie.
Still...there's the bright ringing of his laughter at the mention of rat-people dishes, at the look that graces Fjord's face.]
Sounds perfectly wretched, doesn't it? I'm game. We could always find a palette cleanser, after.
no subject
You could be my palate cleanser, he privately muses, more and more into the idea of a future tryst. While there is a physical attraction there it's another thing to like someone for who they are. ]
Certainly. You grew up along the coast, then?
[ Meandering over to a stall laid with barbecue sticks, he takes a sniff of whatever's being grilled. ]
no subject
He leans down a little as they approach the stall, brow pulling tight as he tries to discern what exactly is on offer, here.]
I did! Born aboard a ship, actually but um, there was this storm, came out of nowhere one evening, waves tall as towers, sky suddenly turning black as my sins. I must have been...oh, seven or eight? Something along those lines. Our ship was wrecked off the coast of Nevivon, my sister and I were the only survivors. As luck would have it though, we were adopted by the village grandmothers of Nevivon, spent the rest of our youth there. Not a bad way to grow up, all in all.
[The death of his parents, it's an old hurt now. One he can talk about without feeling the pain of it any longer.
Abruptly he turns towards Fjord, lips curled, brow raised. Motions vaguely towards the food with a leather-clad hand.]
What do you think this is, eh? Any ideas? I can't work it out for the life of me.
no subject
It's, ah, [ with another discreet sniff, ] ... fresh? I can eat almost anything, the choice is up to you.
[ His shrug carries a chuckle with it. ]
That sounds like quite the experience. [ Almost drowning usually is. ] Is your sister here with you or did you wake up alone in the crystal fields?
no subject
[There's the quick sidelong flash of his smile, and then he's turning towards the vendor, momentarily breaks away from their conversation to make small talk with the Prismal selling the food. He's friendly and genial, asks after their evening, shares a joke. Goes quite out of his way to be personable before he turns back again with two sticks in his hand, held up with the waggle of a brow.]
Besides, that healing trick I mentioned? I've yet to come across a poison that can kill me. I'll survive, if nothing else.
[He offers one of the snacks to Fjord, continues on.]
But um...it was quite the experience, yes. Not a good one, but here I am to tell the tale. And ah, I woke up in the crystal fields...if my sister's here I've yet to find her. But listen to me, talking your ear off. How about yourself? Did you arrive here alone?
[Spoilers: he talks a lot.]
no subject
The vendor catches Fjord's weighted stare, askance from laughing with Julian, and that could be one of the reasons he sends them on their way with the snacks soon after. Fjord wasn't frowning at him. He wasn't. This isn't a date!
... It's a non-date.
He knows so much about Julian in such a short amount of time, the broken bones that heal and poisoned organs reverting to normal. It makes him want to cup the man's head in his hands and say Stop trusting people so easily, because if Fjord was a bad sort he hates to think what someone would do with those sorts of secrets.
Again, the openness is all part of Julian's charm. ]
I like listening to what you have to say. [ He makes a mental note to keep an eye out for anyone who could be Julian's sister, on his behalf. ] I arrived alone but one of my friends is here, he actually has a house. I think I might stay with him, it's safer to stick together.
[ That, and he's worried something will happen to Molly (again) if Fjord isn't there (again). It can't hurt to tell Julian a little more, he supposes; he gets the feeling he may want to protect him in the future too, if they grow any closer, and he has a sneaking suspicion he and Molly would get on like a neighbourhood on fire. ]
His name is Mollymauk, he's a purple tiefling. Red eyes, big fancy horns, a truly gaudy fashion sense. You couldn't miss him if you tried.
no subject
They slip past a group of animated Prismals, lost deep in conversation, Julian's coat fluttering out behind him like dark wings as he steps nimbly to avoid a collision.]
Lively place, isn't it?
[The way he says it, it's clear that it's exactly the kind of atmosphere he enjoys.]
But look, you should be careful what you say, you might end up living to regret it. [Again there's the flash of his crooked smile, a continuation of his unguarded openness.] My sister frequently tells me that I don't let anyone else get a word in edgeways.
[His sister, Asra, others-- and so, despite the teasing edge to his response there's a suffusion of warmth in his words that suggests he appreciates Fjord's sentiment. Having someone say they like listening to him talk? There's something to be said for that.
He pauses though, to take a bite of his food. Chews it, swallows, brow raised.]
Oh, it's not ah, not too bad actually. Try it, tell me what you think.
[He says it as he tries to make sense of the string of words the other man just compiled into a sentence. Purple tiefling?]
And no doubt, if I saw someone like the man you're describing I'm sure I'd remember him. I'll keep an eye out. Be sure to say hello. I suppose it's something of a relief, isn't it? To have someone familiar about, when you find yourself in a strange new world.
no subject
Obediently, he wrenches a hunk of nondescript meat off the stick and shreds it around the tusks growing into his bottom teeth, sucking his fingers daintily after a small massacre. ]
It's very good, yes. Could do with some crackling.
[ A half-orc of few words, albeit genuine ones. ]
Well, Julian ... You know me now, so you're not really alone either. [ Reading into that sentiment a little and finding it lonely around what it doesn't say, he pins him with a look. ] I know we only recently met but if you need help, you're welcome to call on me.
no subject
He never has been the sort to remain overlong in one place.]
Still can't tell what it is, though.
[He says it with a cheery shrug of his broad shoulders, the words taking on the colour of a vague musing rather than an expression of concern. He pauses though, when his companion continues to speak, the faint widening of his eye giving him the look of the confused.]
I, er... [It's an odd thing, still, to hear someone offering to help him, and there's one moment where he means to spin his usual lines, the words resting there on the tip of his tongue; that he doesn't need help, that he is the one who does the helping, that he'll be quite alright on his own. He catches himself though, hears Pasha's voice inside his head, her no-nonsense tone as she repeats his words back at him, a mockery of his own voice-- I'm Julian and I always think I know best, even when others only want what's best for me!.
He clears his throat. Tries again.]
I appreciate it. Thank you. That's ah, that's kind of you. Having only just met me. The more the merrier and all that, eh?
[It's filtering down to him, slowly, surely. The fact that everyone needs help sometimes. Perhaps him, especially.]
no subject
Just ... stay in touch, like you said you would. [ When they were flirting before. Fuck it, he still is now, levelling him with a cocky smile. ] Unless you want me to chase you down to check you're alright.
no subject
Who doesn't like to be chased down, every now and again?
[And it's there in him, the flirt, the tease...but as they head down a street wreathed with coloured lanterns, vendors selling their wares on either side of them, he allows his tone to slide towards something more genuine.]
But I can't have you worrying over me, can I? I'll stay in touch, of course.
[Because it's so very like him, to brush off concerns, to keep out of the way for other people's 'own good'. A habit he's trying to break. He wants to be better, hopes he is better, than he has been in the past.
Besides. He's hardly the type to leave things at eye-fucking alone.]
no subject
You're rather lovely, so please do.
[ Stay in touch. Not only because Julian is a pretty face.
The arm around Julian's waist lets go as the street opens up, although Fjord holds the eye-contact. ]
If you can't get in touch with me, there's a person called Fish at the Tourmaline club. I'm sure they'd do it for you.
no subject
[He says it with a dashing grin, though the wily look is somewhat undermined by the colour that touches his cheeks once again, spreads over the bridge of his strident nose. He runs a hand back through russet curls as the half-orc releases him, takes a step back. Laughs quietly.]
By which - of course - I mean, the sentiment is returned. I'll ah, I'll be sure to contact that friend of yours if I have any trouble finding you.
no subject
[ Smooth. ]
Sure you won't be busy catching the eye of every other sailor around here, Captain?
[ Not that Fjord would judge (only if they were uglier than him, which his relatively fragile ego thinks is fair). ]
no subject
[He says it, but the blush remains, a vague motion of his hands which denotes self-consciousness, quickly concealed as he folds his arms across the broad plane of his chest.]
And I suppose I can't help catching one's eye, I do rather stand out, don't I?
[The red hair, the eye-patch, the height, the faintly villainous attire, but--]
But I daresay you do, too. Perhaps I'm the one who ought to be worried.
no subject
You stand out, sure.
[ His smile wavers for a split second as he glances away, hitched back up with a deliberately casual tone as he replies to the flattery. ]
Oh, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'll still be here.
no subject
What is it, don't believe me?
[The shape of his smile is all tease, but there's something of sincerity in his tone. A subtle note of concern.]
no subject
I believe you will still be interested. I just ... find it hard to believe that in a city like this [ gesturing to the lights and general wonder-inspiring nature of their surroundings, arms dropping to his sides, ] anyone will opt for a half-orc.
[ He makes himself brighten up with a shrug. ]
And, you know, fuck them. Right? There are simply more sights to see out here, is my point.
no subject
[He says it with a waggle of his brows, the brief bright flash of his smile. Quite incorrigible.
It fades after a moment though, replaced once again by something more authentic as he lifts a hand to scrub through his hair.]
True enough that there's plenty to see but um...now, forgive me if I'm being insensitive. We don't really ah, don't really have half-orcs where I'm from. Mostly just regular humans, you know. But er, if you're not exactly popular in your own world - just a guess, mind, based on your response just now - it's not as though you're in your own world anymore, eh? Different rules apply, and all that. People do like variety.
[He's from a pretty permissive place himself, as may be detectable in his attitude.]
no subject
[
Was a little though. He places a hand on Julian's arm to halt them in the middle of the street, stepping in closer so people can't tear through them. His own insecurities are a waste of time when he can help reassure any of his new friend's; they met not an hour ago but he already gets the sense Julian will fraternise with more people in a day than Fjord can stand to talk to in a week. ]The people here will be arseholes at some point or another, I get the feeling that this isn't the most sentimental of cities. They want something from you, the Chroma, and it may be mutually transactional for the most part, but ...
[ Fjord's sword-calloused palm drifts up to boldly cradle Julian's pale cheek, the pad of a thumb skimming gently a high blush as he lowers his voice. ]
But if anyone here hurts you, I want to hear about it. These tusks can be rather scary in the right lighting.
